About the property

Located in centre of the Village of Les Allues, Rhone Alps, France - Central Village Location, Close To Ski Lift & Free Ski Bus, Convenient For Restaurants & Bars

Both offerings within Chalet Vache Bleue are architecturally designed, fitted and furnished to a high standard. Whilst the exterior of the building was designed to reflect the Barn it once was, the interior is chic, spacious and comfortable. Chalet is fully self-contained with a private entrance.

The Chalet is designed to provide a family or group of friends with a private boutique style experience. High on creature comforts such as beautiful bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Spacious living area with leather sofas, TV/DVD, Bose sound dock, WiFi, ample radiators and a fire. Chalet Vache Bleue is a place you will be happy to call home and a great place to rest after a day in the Alps.

Practical considerations have not been forgotten either; comfortable beds with fully sprung mattresses for the perfect sleep, built in wardrobes in every bedroom, plentiful supply of hot water, a drying room and washing machine. The Chalet has level access from the street to the ski storage area avoiding the need to carry equipment up or down stairs. Your boots will be toasty warm in the morning thanks to the Boot Heater.

The large kitchen is fully fitted and equipped; opening onto the dining area to ensure those busy preparing meals are not excluded from the social side of the holiday. If cooking is not your "thing" we can source a Chef to come and look after or you can book Chef standard meals which are delivered to the Chalet daily for you to heat and serve when convenient for you. Enjoying some extra Apres Ski time or browsing the shops in Meribel without worrying about getting home for a specified Dinner time is exactly what a relaxing holiday is all about. Eating out is also an option with several restaurants in Les Allues and many more in the resort centre at Meribel. We are happy to make reservations at restaurants for you. Flexibility is key to a great holiday and a self-catered holiday at Chalet Vache Bleue can give you that flexibility.

The Chalet was designed to be suitable for longer stays, we did this by ensuring the facilities and comfort level meant you really could settle in for a few weeks. Many of our guests stay 2 - 5 weeks rather than the traditional one week so we feel we have achieved that standard. Having said that if your stay is for the traditional one week period we will do everything we can to help you make the most of every minute. The Chalet will be warm and sparkling clean for your arrival, beds made and basic kitchen provisions supplied. We can help you arrange for hire equipment to be waiting at the Chalet, lift passes can be arranged, they will be waiting for you on arrival and up to date local information will be prepared for you.

It is rare to find alpine accommodation of this standard at such a reasonable cost and available as self catered.

About Andrew and Elaine Hornsby

Andrew and Elaine live in Brisbane Australia. They have skied Les Trois Vallees since 1992. We bought Chalet Vache Bleue as a ruined "Sheep" fold and spent 5 years rebuilding to a modern mountain home. We value the expertise of an Architect and employed a Lyon based Architect to design and project manage the reconstruction to cutting edge standards.

After 5 successful winter seasons at Chalet Vache Bleue and take great pride in the fact that not only do many of our guests return but they return for periods of greater than the typical one week ski holiday. We feel we have been successful in creating a mountain base which guests are very happy to stay in for as long as they can! We pride ourselves on delivering a personal service from your first enquiry to your arrival at the Chalet.

Andrew and Elaine Hornsby purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Andrew and Elaine Hornsby chose Meribel

Les Trois Vallees are the largest and most varied hi altitude ski/boarding area in the world with over 200 lifts, more than 600km of pistes and unlimited off piste. All abilities from beginner to fearless extreme thrill seeker are catered for. Meribel is not far from the border of France and Italy and the area has a rich history, and is famous for great food and wine. Burgundy is not far to the North, the Rhone Valley vineyards are a short drive. Several of the famous climbs on the Tour de France are less than hours drive with Courcheval being less than 5 minutes and Col de Madeleine around 20 minutes away.

We wanted to run a ski business in a "real" French Village rather than a purpose built ski resort, we believe we found the perfect place in Les Allues and we think you will agree.

What makes this chalet unique

Spacious chic Chalet in a perfect central village location. The property is very convenient for both the gondola which takes you to the heart of the resort and the free ski bus. Restaurants and bars are a short stroll at the end of the day. Our property is fully equipped for a luxury break in the mountains, with fully equipped Kitchen, Neff Appliances, Bo Concept leather sofa, oversize bedrooms and comfortable beds to mention just a few highlights. We have rebuilt using the best materials including Oak for staircases, floors and doors. Our electrics and hot water system are also cutting edge so no risk of of a cold shower or cold feet for sleepy heads. Artwork is chosen with an eye for the mountain. We hope your stay at Chalet Vache Bleue sets a new standard for accommodation in Les Trois Vallees Savoie.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family has just spent an amazing week at Chalet Vache Bleue in the beautiful and charming village of Les Allues. This accommodation is extremely well appointed, has a superb layout and finished to the highest standard. It is spotless, modern but homely, and it was truly a pleasure to come back each evening to such comfort. Andrew and Elaine were always close at hand if we needed any advice and there was even gorgeous home baking at times from Elaine! A frequent and free bus service to Meribel is only a few minutes away, although we enjoyed the bars and restaurants in Les Allues itself. We are so happy to have discovered this chalet and look forward to our next visit!

Best kept secret in meribel!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 6th year staying at chalet Vache Bleue... we simply love it... the nicest chalet prob in the village.. everything is tip top.. from literally the smallest to the largest. Andi and Elaine don't k miss a trick from the small laminated cards telling you which trails to go on... to the a complete and fully loaded kitchen. You literally need to just bring your suitcase and you'll feel right at home. They are always available for any sort of advise or questions regarding your stay or the area..

see you again next year!

Owner's Response: Our returning guests record is proving to be outstanding with around 60% of guests this year coming back for at least a second visit. Each year we have made improvements and added extra touches which have added to the experience of staying at Chalet Vache Bleue. Our biggest challenge going forward will be to work out how to improve and then replicate our offering so we can help out other skiers, boarders, cyclists and walkers with their accommodation needs.

A truly luxurious Chalet

  • 5 of 5

As an avid ski family with a love of fine accommodation, we could not think of anywhere better to stay than the amazing 'Chalet Vache Bleue' in Les Allues. The elegant, refined blending of modern style with alpine touches makes an excellent base to explore and access ‘The Three Valleys’. The living spaces with their high ceilings are beautifully furnished and easily accommodated our family of four. The Chalet is impeccably clean and well equipped: the kitchen has every gadget you could wish for to cook with; the separate boot room has a boot warmer for up to 8 pairs of ski boots; a separate laundry; and powder room. This, combined with three luxurious double bedrooms, all en-suited with complimentary L’Occitane products, and gorgeously furnished, makes for a very comfortable stay you will neither forget or want to end.

Throughout the duration of our stay, our hosts have been nothing but accommodating. Although this is not a catered chalet, we received regular check-ups from our gracious hosts, who made sure every little detail was perfect. They even went as far to aid in the purchase of a pork belly for a Sunday roast. There is very little else to say about the quality of service during our stay, save that Andrew and Elaine Hornsby were magnificent in every way imaginable.

The locale itself is something that would easily prompt a trip: the village is a medieval farming village, equipped with two pubs, restaurants, a church, and a quaint museum containing a fascinating variety of articles pertaining to the village’s historic roots. The village is also equipped with a free gondola service that travels to Chaudanne in Meribel Centre, one of the main areas that the ski lifts run from. It is also worthy to note that a quicker, free, and regular bus service runs between Les Allues and Chaudanne.

To conclude, Chalet Vache Bleue is one of the most memorable and comfortable places we have ever stayed. If you choose to stay here, you will be delighted to call the Chalet ‘home’ during your stay. This chalet goes above and beyond in every aspect, so a five-star rating does not quite do it justice. In light of this we award an extra star for a thoroughly amazing stay.

Owner's Response: Our guests come from far and wide with the Adams family coming all the way from Sydney Australia (and staying with us for six weeks over 4 seasons). We like to think that the comfort and style of Chalet Vache Bleue makes us a great choice for people who travel long distances to ski or board and need a longer stay option with all the creature comforts of a luxe hotel but the privacy and flexibility of your own home.

A Most Memorable Christmas in Chalet Vache Bleue

  • 5 of 5

In researching our Christmas family skiing holiday we spent a lot of time on the internet trying to find the perfect (or as near perfect) accommodation we could and Chalet Vache Bleue certainly ticked the boxes. Our expectations were high from the photos and comments of previous guests and in truth they barely do justice as to what a beautifully presented home from home this was.

We wanted for nothing in the chalet with all facilities to an excellent standard and this was underlined by the level of attention to the small details that just gave that special touch. Andrew and Elaine could not have done more for us from providing information about ski hire, lift passes etc, a delicious Yule Log and even collecting a lost phone from the police station - thank you so much.

Les Allues is a charming Savoie village within easy reach of Meribel with an excellent bus service. When we did eat out we preferred the restaurants of Les Allues for quality, atmophere and value to the glitz of Meribel.

We loved Chalet Vache Bleue, we loved the ambiance of Les Allues, we loved the variety of skiing potential in the 3 Valleys and we would love to come back again.

Pefect for the Pistes without wasting money

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Vache Bleue is one of the best kept secrets in the Three Valleys. Once we unearthed this hidden gem, Andrew and Elaine made booking easy and gave us the sense we were very welcome in their stunning Chalet. The high quality finish, modern decor and clever layout made the Chalet feel like a real home from home, which was a fantastic way to relax in after a hard day on the slopes. We were slightly worried that being a little out of town would take something from the experience, but the frequent and free bus service meant we got all the benefits of superior accommodation at a better price, and still didn’t miss out on any of the nightlife in Merribel. All in all, we had probably the best skiing holiday we’ve ever had at Chalet Vache Bleue, and we’ll be booking up for next year before too many people find out about it

Chalet Vache Bleu - perfect accommodation

  • 5 of 5

My family has had 2 vacations in this property and we are returning to Chalet Vache Bleu for the third time in January 2017. Situated in the charming and beautiful village of Les Allues, this accommodation is extremely well appointed, has a superb layout and is finished to the highest standard. It is spotless, modern but homely and it was truly a pleasure to come back each evening to such comfort. Andrew and Elaine were always close at hand if we needed any advice and there was even gorgeous home baking from Elaine! Sheer luxury in the 3 valleys. Absolutely lovely

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many mountain properties over the years and this is clearly the best by far. When we read about this Chalet in Les Allues it sounded amazing and it didnt disappoint. It was spotlessly clean with so much space over a number of floors. The living/kitchen area is perfect for a group and very well equipped. The fact that the bedrooms (each with a luxurious en suite) meant that everyone had their own space and privacy. Les Allues is a "real" mountain village - full of character and perfectly located for access to the vast ski area. The owners were really freindly and accommodating - they have done an outstanding job with their chalet. We cant wait for our next vist to this real gem and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We designed the Chalet to accommodate long stays by focusing on space and comfort but we love it when gusts who only have a few days with us appreciate it just as much. We look forward to seeing you when you are next in the area. Andrew and Elaine
