About Mike Hare

Ola..and Welcome to our Little Oasis on the Costa Calida coastline overlooking the Mar Menor.

My wife Jean, and I had always wanted a "Place in the Sun" and 10 years ago an opportunity arose for us to see that wish through.

We immediately were attracted to the area by the convenience of a 2.5 hour flight, the cosiness of landing at a small but very efficient airport at San Javier - and more importantly the apartment, its positioning and the surroundings, it just felt right.

We have tried to make each of our place's a "home from home" thinking about what would be the perfect place to stay in if we were having a break abroad - and hopefully over the years of us owning them, we would like to think we have done so.

Why Mike Hare chose Cartagena & Mar Menor

We bought this 2 years prior to Marinesco 2 on the otherside of the Marina - but all for the same reasons.

There really is not a better feeling than getting up in the morning, sliding open the doors, walking out onto a huge ground floor sun terrace, looking over and just seeing all shapes and sizes of boats and yachts literally passing your lounge window.

It might be a little further to walk over to the marina, than Marinesco 2 which is virtually on the marina, but again what a lovely walk over the "swing bridge" stopping every now and again to watch the boats pass you by - coming and going from the Med and The Mar Menor.

There are 2 Sun loungers to take advantage of the South facing terrace. There is also available with the owners compliments sand/beach chairs available, plus Beach Umbrella & Cold Box for your Drinks and Snacks to take with when sun-bathing away from the terrace on the beach or around the pool, which is only 100 meters away and has a large grassed sunbathing area surrounding it. Utility Room: An added bonus, with a washer so get the washing done as you go along plus ironing board and iron available in this area also. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The team will provide a full pre-clean prior to arrival. Included in the prices will be sufficient linen, hand and bath towels for the length of stay, includes bed settee linen - and don't forget - no charge for High Chair, Cot, Buggy & Bikes.

Great property with stunning views of the Marina

My husband and I stayed in this property in April. Again the weather wasn't great for this time of year and it was also very windy but I was told this was unusual. The apartment itself was perfect. Lovely and clean and spacious with two bathrooms - one each! Nice kitchen and ample sized lounge/diner. A nice touch is the welcome pack consisting of water, tea, sugar, milk, bread, jam and margarine. We found the location peaceful and this is what we wanted. Although the terrace is on a walkway you hardly get anybody passing. It was great to watch the sailing boats going by when the bridge opened. There are a few restaurants close by but most were closed as it was out of season. If you walk to the Marina there were plenty open - takes about 35 minutes and it's very flat. Bus travel up and down the Strip was very easy. Buses every 45 minutes or every 30 minutes in the summer. The bus stop is literally 2 minutes from the apartment. Cheap too at only €1.15 for as many stops as you wanted to go. We found this ideal as we got to see the whole strip when it was too windy to walk!! There is a supermarket very close to the apartment (Spar). The best supermarket is right at the bottom of the strip by the Tourist information centre - Mercadona. Much better choice and price and you can get off the bus almost right outside. From the same bus stop you can walk to the harbour of Cabo de Palos which has lots of lovely fish restaurants. There is also a bus that runs from the strip to Cartagena. I would highly recommend this apartment for couples and families. Contact with the owner and his team was very easy.

This excellent and accurate review was so much more powerful when added to the comprehensive Information Pack which is sent out to all of our guests a number of weeks prior to their arrival. Whether it be for this ground floor apartment on Los Miradores del Puerto (Ref No: S17284) or our other 1st floor apartment on the other side of the marina at Marinesco 2 (Ref No: S17220). The beauty of our properties are their positions in and around the marina - and ideal for a quick holiday or a leisurely longer term break be it Spring, Autumn or Winter. If expecting, full on loud music, cheap, all night drinking haunts and continual "All Day English Breakfast" - Forget this apartment and the area - this definitely is not for you - however, for quiet, calm, great beaches, nice places to walk round, a multi choice of various food offerings, some great wine coupled with scenery. Some great nights in on the huge terrace or large veranda, watching the world go by and the stunning sun set - then start looking at those available dates now. Lovely Apartment but disappointing location

The apartment is very well appointed, very spacious, and very well equipped. The location was somewhat disappointing; on the one hand, it's adjacent to the gola del estancio and the marina, between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, but on the other hand its a ghost town. Its also very windy. Having said that, I was there from mid-January to late March, so its perhaps what is expected at this time of the year. The area is rather dull and its a 14 km journey to get to the south end of the La Manga spit at 50 km/hr.

On the more positive side, the apartment had everything I needed, the Agents were very helpful and reacted immediately to any small problems which I encountered, and the entire stay was excellent value for money. Its just rather let down by where it is situated.

Owner's Response: I would like to thank our guest with their valued feed back, as without this we would not be in a position to maintain the positive and improve where we can, However, the weather is a slightly different challenge, with this years early conditions being what many say was "A One Off" as we have been there on Christmas Day and had stunning weather, on the beach in March. Normally the beauty of La Manga del Mar Menor, is the Winter and Spring serenity, peacefulness and calm of the area. Each year guests choose to stay either with us or in the area because of the quietness at this time of year, Summer is a different picture all together, with this area being a favourite holiday destination with the Nationals and numerous other holiday-makers. Again at the time of year our guest visited and made use of the apartment, nobody expects to be rushing around on the roads but because of the lack of traffic and maintaining the speed limit, it will only take 20 mnutes to reach the bottom of the "The La Manga Strip" - but on the way down there are there are several small shopping centres which one can stop at and have a break, snack, tapas or coffee. The ferry also runs throughout the winter from the Marina and again is only a 20 minute, 4 euro journey over to the main Mar Menor area and the Wednesday Market. Fantastic Apartment with large outside space

This apartment is very well equipped, the outside space is amazing, all very clean and tidy. Beach one side of the road and the Mar Menor the other side, Spar supermarket at the end of the block. Very close the The Strip for shops. Lovely Marina, 20 minutes walk away with scrummy places to eat. We hired a car so lots of places to visit and the roads very well marked out and easy to get about. Highly recommend this apartment, a bit quite at the beginning of May but that is how we liked it. We would love to come again. FANTASTIC

The La Manga Strip and surrounding areas really has so much to see when out, great freshly cooked food and relaxing bars not only on the doorstep of the apartment but scattered up and down the "Strip" all brilliant for some stunning sunsets over a choice of one sea and one Ocean either side. Really pleased the apartment had everything you needed, including free wifi, full sports channels and national British TV channels - and you are right about the outdoor space it is big enough for sun bathing loungers, 2 large tables, great al fresco dining and still enough room to just sit around and watch the world, overlooking the marina entrance, all in comparative privacy. Spacious, well equipped apartment with fab views.

Mike has been very helpful and always responds quickly to any emails. The apartment is in a lovely position, the terrace benefitting from all day sun with a great view over the marina, and is well equipped with patio furniture on a quiet and clean development. All the rooms are a good size, and the U.K. Tv and wifi are great for the dark winter evenings, all included in the very reasonable price. We would happily stay here again, and an extra bonus for us is that our dogs are allowed. A very pleasant stay, and we would recommend spending at least one evening in a bar over the far side of the marina, watching the sun set over the Mar Menor, it is very special. Our favourite is the Meson Sol Y Sombra, nice owners and great food.

Fantastic

We had to book accommodation at the last minute as we normally stay in a family apartment on the strip, however, I'm now glad this happened. From our original enquiry Mike has been so helpful and gone above and beyond of what I would expect from an owner. the apartment was perfect, so clean and had the most beautiful views, spent every morning enjoying breakfast watching the boats from the marina. Considering there were family's with young children it was so peaceful. I had 2 15 year old children and felt secure in letting them walk around, go to the shops and even catch the bus themselves as the area seemed so safe. Having a car would have helped go further afield, however we didn't mind the walk over the bridge as it helped us work off some of the lovely meals we had. Found some gorgeous restaurants and would have happily stayed all Summer. John was fantastic too and nothing seemed too much trouble. Mikes apartment is perfect with a great ground floor terrace that whilst overlooking the marina still seemed private. Thank you for helping us out of a tight spot and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending your place and our sincere thanks to both yourself and John for the best customer service ever.

Fantastic apartment

We have stayed for 8 weeks and we could not fault anything. Spotless, modem, excellent position and close to everything, views to die for from your terrace watching the world go by listening to the chimes of the boats and all very peaceful. Would suit all, Owner Mike is very helpful and John is great. You would not be disappointed we give this 5* fantastic will be back thank you Mike for allowing us to stay in your beautiful apartment
