For the size of the town, it offers a wealth of excellent restaurants and pubs.

The sitting room, and well equipped kitchen are on the first floor of the property, and the 2 bedrooms and bathroom are on the second floor.

Well equipped, warm and cosy, and full of character, it is ideal for a break.

About the Owner

Born and brought up in Galashiels, I have always been very fond of the town of Melrose, and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Fortunately my husband feels the same way, and we decided to buy a property in the town about 14 years ago. My husband and myself are now retired, and live in Buckinghamshire. We have 3 grown up children and 6 grandchildren, and enjoy travel and outdoor activities, as well as visits to Melrose, and the varied walking on offer.

Great location

This property is in a great location in the centre of Melrose, it is comfortable and well equipped. It has a lot of character and feels very homely. It is on two levels with the bedrooms and bathroom up a spiral staircase ( not suitable for small children ). It is quiet despite being in the town centre and although there are parking restrictions during the day 9-5 we had no problems, there is plenty of free parking within a minutes walk. There is no internet access! We had three devices with us and none of them could detect a signal, there was no router that we could find in the property......so if you require internet, it would be best to double check that it is installed before you book.

As can be seen from the web-site, the stairs are standard stairs but circular, and we have children staying, ranging in ages from babies to teenagers. Great apartment

Perfectly placed apartment to explore Melrose and the borders. Lovely and clean, cosy, and had everything you could possibly need in the kitchen etc. Lots of guides and leaflets to look through for ideas of places to visit/walk. Just wish we'd had more than a brief weekend to explore. Thanks!

Perfect accommodation

What a find for our short trip to Melrose for a wedding party. The accommodation far exceeded our expectations. It was welcoming and easy to use all the facilities which were accurately described. The location in the middle of this friendly town was close to all amenities and it was easy to find somewhere to park the car. I wish we had been able to stay longer to explore the amazing countryside and discover more about this historic area. An ideal base for walkers and/or couples and friends who just want a lazy time in lovely surroundings. Another time I hope. Thankyou.

Holidays in Scotland

Our holidays have we spend in the flat in Melrose. It is a very nice place to be.

App. is clean and once a week there is someone who cleans the appartement.

The kitchen looks spic and span.

The bathroom was very nice with the bath en shower.

All the rooms were very clean when we arrived and that makes a big inpression

Melrose is one of the Borders' prettiest towns, nestling at the foot of the dramatic Eildon Hills with the River Tweed bordering the town, and stunning local scenery. It is very accessible to Edinburgh as well as the coast, and numerous border golf courses, many of whom offer reasonable rates over a 3-5 day "Freedom of the Fairways" pass. Many walks of varying length and challenge are on offer in stunning settings, including St Cuthbert's Way, and the Borders Abbey Way. The town is acknowledged for its excellent restaurants, bars, cafes and individual shops. Edinburgh airport is an hour and a quarter away, and there are train stations in Carlisle, Newcastle and Berwick upon Tweed. The new railway line fromEdinburgh to Tweedbank - 2 miles from the property is now fully operational. Many festivals take place throughout the year including the very popular book festival in June, which spans 4 days of talks and discussion by famous authors. The venue is a delightful walled garden of a restored Regency house. Festivals are held in the summer throughout the Borders reflecting traditions of riding the marches or boundaries.Each town takes enormous pride in its celebrations, which last for approx. a week. Pipeband and Highland dancing championships are hosted here. Home of rugby 7's, an annual tournament is held in April, attracting sides from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, as well as the local sides. With such close proximity to Edinburgh it is also a good location to take in the Edinburgh Festival.

Melrose Abbey is a ruined monastery of the Cistercian order, built in sandstone.

The embalmed heart of Robert the Bruce was found here.

Edinburgh is an hour and a quarters drive.

There is a post office, bank, chemist, bookshop and two supermarkets in the town, as well as individual shops.There is a choice of several good restaurants and pubs in the town.

There are numerous golf courses in the area, offering a 3-5 day "Freedom of the Fairways" pass at a competitive price.

Fishing is a popular pastime on the River Tweed. At the appropriate time of the year, salmon can be seen climbing the ladder at Philliphaugh in Selkirk, where there is a cafe serving home made food.

Small and quirky, it has 2 original Victorian fireplaces, and original wooden shutters to the sitting room windows. Free carparking is available approx. 100 yards from the flat, with one hour free parking between 9am-5pm. On the street.
