About the property

Fabulous Restored Gites, Pool

The summer seems to be just a step away now! We are booking up fast but have just a couple of peak season weeks on each property - check out our availability chart for the best weeks still free, then drop me a line and mention Owners Direct for the best price on each week!

Domaine de Gigan is a beautiful private enclave of just two restored holiday homes, great location for all the sights & perfect for children of all ages.

The property is secluded behind electric gates - a great bonus for visitors with children - let your littlies run free without the worry of them accidentally 'escaping'!

The star attraction is the pool..... 12 x 6 metres, salt water, glass filtered & heated all season long. Surrounded by large terraces, shaded by large sun brollies, there are loungers for all on the terrace and on the surrounding lawns.

The pool has a fully automatic safety cover, so closed and safe overnight. During the day the pool has a full alarm system on the terrace - you really can relax, knowing that your little ones can't get anywhere near the pool without alerting you!

With acres of tree lined gardens, fabulous playground/climbing frame, play house, lovely 'outside lounge' pergolas, table tennis, footy net, badminton net, wild meadow walk, thatched retreat, bikes for all & much, much more....

The Bread Oven was once the boulangerie for the hamlet - a colombage barn that we renovated to the same exacting standards as the Farmhouse as a home from home for our family & friends.

Surrounded by a cascading rose garden The Bread Oven welcomes you from the first moment you arrive, large open living room, hand painted country kitchen with granite work surfaces, super cosy & comfortable sofas & log burning stove make a great relaxing space.

Two ensuite bedrooms, as always, the beds are either twin or 6ft, the bedding feather & down (unless requested otherwise), the linen crisp & white & the towels deep & fluffy. French doors open onto a quiet side terrace with views over the restored windmill on the hill above the house.

Travelling with little ones - don't forget we have everything you need - just let us know and it will be waiting.

Outside you'll find a totally private & secluded terrace with permanent barbecue - spend time chilling there or in the shady pergola just a few steps away.

The Farmhouse is newly renovated with two fabulous en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor - perfect for two families sharing or visitors with limited mobility. Upstairs there a further three bedrooms, the family bathroom and a second large living room, meaning everyone can spread out and have their own space!

Open living is the key with this fabulous house with a large open living room with log burner & leather sofas - the other end of the living room is a hand built kitchen with granite work surfaces & 6:4 conventional AGA. The light oak table seats up to 12.

With hand made terracotta tiles in the living room, solid oak floors to the principle bedrooms and fabulous Jim Lawrence lighting throughout this is a really stylish renovation and you are sure to feel at home the minute you walk through the door.

Flexibility is the key, with cots & all things kiddy the house is just right for mums & dads with babies & littlies as well as adults looking for a 'grown up' escape!

Enjoy an acre or so of tree lined gardens to escape into. The focal point of the garden is the crystal clear swimming pool... it's a joy for children and adults alike - salt water and heated all season long - if you've not experienced a salt water pool before - you will just love it - no more stinging eyes, dry skin or hair - the children will be in the pool all day long! We glass filter the water for extra clarity - and to keep you precious youngsters safe we cover it with an automatic safety cover when it is not in use.

We're back to that 'flexibility' word! With such large gardens there's space for everyone, children & adults, young and not so young...Take time out relaxing in the shady pergola - snooze on the comfy daybed, or enjoy a game or two out of the sun.

For the younger members of your party the fabulous playground is the focal point of the garden - hours of fun & make believe start here and continue throughout the garden, whether it is a 'shop' in the wendy house or a game of sandcastles in the sandpit or a lazy hour or so reading in the hammocks, there's plenty for our younger friends.

Table tennis, badminton & a football net complete the garden mix...

Our children loved to ride bikes - they're all grown up now, but we know what fun it is to take a bike out whatever age you are - so we have bikes for everyone, from push along bikes & little scooters for toddlers through to bikes for young children, teenagers & beyond. Pop the little ones in the bike trailer for a whizz along the lanes or catch the breeze with your toddler in the seat on the back of your bike.

Holiday at Gigan & let us surprise & delight you with all and everything that is Domaine de Gigan!

About Prue Murray

Welcome to our little bit of paradise - we love to share this perfect escape with visitors old & new...

From our family holiday home to a fabulous enclave including our two letting gites and our own converted barn - a great base during the season while the family come and go.

We really love Gigan and are amazed at how it has changed over the years. It has become a secluded retreat from the outside world. The trees have grown up to enclose the gardens without taking away the views of the beautiful Lot & Garonne countryside.

We just love the fact that we are close to many bastide villages, rivers, castles, vineyards and much more, but then we can retreat back into the quiet of the domaine and all that it offers.

The area is just fantastic for walking with almost 400 mapped walking routes all within easy reach - there's always somewhere new to discover.

With guests returning year after year we are happy that we are creating a really special place in this beautiful corner of France.

Prue Murray purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Prue Murray chose Lot-et-Garonne

We have known this area of France for many years, spending happy holidays close to Bergerac when the children were small.

When the time came to find our own house, we looked a little further south - within easy reach of, but less busy than, the Dordogne and just 45 minutes drive from Bergerac Airport. The Lot & Garonne is a beautiful area, with rolling countryside, dotted with plum orchards and picturesque bastide villages.

This area of the Lot & Garonne has great road networks. Bergerac is just 45 mins drive away and the vibrant Bastide town of Villeneuve just 25 minutes south.

The region offers activities for many tastes, from visits to historic sites or fabulous bastide villages, wonderful local markets, rivers to canoe or boat on, adventure parks, walking - the list goes on.

What makes this cottage unique

It is difficult to say in words how special Gigan is... As the French would say Gigan is our Coup de Coeur (of our heart)...

These two gites have not been restored as 'holiday homes' - they really are the quality and style of a home we would be more than happy to live in full time. There is no 'basic' holiday home furniture, no magnolia or white paint, no cheap tiles on the floors or walls, no 'that will do' attitude to anything.

We have restored the houses lovingly. The process continues - the farmhouse has had its second makeover since we have owned the property - realising that, just as we would, our guests like to have en-suite bedrooms, we took time out last winter to re-configure a large section of the house to provide two principal bedrooms - the house being so large it really lends itself to two families or a multigenerational family holidaying together.

The two principal rooms have new oak flooring, travertine tiled shower rooms with fabulous smoked glass sinks, glass shower cubicles and great drenching shower heads.

We took the opportunity to upgrade upstairs too - completely redecorating (Farrow & Ball or Little Green Paint Co paints), new Jim Lawrence light fittings to match the standard downstairs & fabulous new padded headboards & furnishings - all the bedrooms now have mosquito screens, so you can sleep peacefully in the cool without buzzing round your ears!

The Bread oven is not left behind... Restored in 2006 with smart soft furnishings, Jim Lawrence lights throughout, fabulous log burner and great furniture - it is a real home for all our visitors... Not wanting miss out on the fun, we've had the paintbrushes & Farrow & Ball paint can out again for The Bread Oven this spring - quickly followed by the polish for the hand made terracotta floor tiles - the house is gleaming and smart and packed all season long with many guests returning - year on year - join us and make Domaine de Gigan your home in SW France!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week at the gorgeous Bread Oven, with our three children. From the moment we arrived Prue and Andrew could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We were greeted with a generous welcome hamper and lots of useful information about things to do in the local area. Not only did our hosts make use feel relaxed, but so did the delightful Bread Oven. The luxurious rooms are of a great size and the attention to detail in the decoration of the property is evident. Staying at Gigan was a real treat for both my husband and I, as well as our children who made the most of the swimming pool and spacious grounds. We had a fantastic time venturing to the local night market and visiting the River Lot to canoe, however we didn't venture far, often, as we wanted to make the most out of our stay at the beautiful house! I’m looking forward to visiting again, enjoying the French sun and of course the French wine!

Further Details:

This is a fabulous area for any sort of holiday. It is central amongst many of the area's bastide towns, such as Eymet, Monflanquin and Issigeac, there are rivers for canoing and boating.

Situated just south of the Dordogne and the Bergerac wine growing region the winetasting opportunities are endless.

It is close to the small town of Tombeboeuf which has a 9 hole golf course and a large lake for fishing or country walks.

There are local markets within reach every day of the week. These are traditional and cater mainly for the French, so are great for your daily food purchases or to while away a morning watching local life.

During July and August, several of the local towns hold Night Markets. These are great fun with trestle tables set out under the stars. Locals and tourists eat together choosing their meals from the stalls set up by local producers - you can choose your wine, starters, mains and puds all from different stalls. A must for anyone visiting the area!

There are plenty of attractions in the area such as Le Chaudron Magique (petting farm), grottos, Roman museum, tree climbing adventure park,

The castles of Bonaguil, Biron and Duras are all a short drive away.

Canoing and boating is available on the River Lot, just 15 minutes away or further afield on the Dordogne.

There is a never ending list of activities available within a short drive, or alternatively, it is a great place for a lazy holiday, enjoying good food and wine, and the gentle French pace of life!

The nearest supermarket is in Miramont, but the local shops in Tombeboeuf are good for day to day needs. The restaurant in Tombeboeuf is good, however, we include a comprehensive list of our current favourite restaurants in our information booklet.
