About Richard Wightman

Helen and I worked in Norfolk in the late 1980s, and always loved the people, the slightly slower and gentler way of life, and the beauty of the area. Career and other pressures took us away from the area, but in 2005 we began to consider purchasing a holiday home. We spent four years treating visits to Norfolk as a bit of a hobby to research the areas and properties. The opportunity to purchase this cottage came our way when it was going to auction in a rather run down state. We spent the first couple of years of ownership renovating the cottage thoroughly, including a new thatched roof and an oak floor. We regularly visit the cottage as a retreat from the pressures of life, and it has worked very well for us. We trust others will enjoy it just as much as we have done.

Why Richard Wightman chose Great Yarmouth & Coast

It is a beautiful location in the Broads area and close to the sea. There are great walks around the village, which is itself interesting, varied, picturesque, but large enough to have "life" and actiivty.

What makes this cottage unique

It is a quaint, traditional cottage with traditional beams, an ignlenook fireplace, and old-fashioned steep stairs. It was once part of a farmhouse dating from 1690, and still has a hand water pump in the garden which we suspect was the reason the farm was located on this site in the first place.

It is close enough to the village to walk to the shops, but on the edge nearest the Broads, where you can enjoy undisturbed walks.

Lovely village location and quaint cottage full of British charm.

The amazing weekend weather meant we got to spend the first day on the boat exploring the Broads and the other on the beach looking for seals. Fantastic family time.

Charming Cottage in good location

  • 5 of 5

Very much enjoyed our stay at this charming little country cottage. A bit quirky in one or two places but that adds to the charm really, stairs will be a little steep for some, however fully enclosed garden is great to keep the dog safe, new TV and good internet connections all help for those needing to keep in touch. Log burner awaits new flue, however weather so good we didn't need it really and the wall heaters warmed the cottage up really quickly in the cooler evenings. Great location for visiting Winterton Beach - very dog friendly. Easy to explore Norfolk Broads, Norwich and Great Yarmouth, as well as some great little walks in the village. Nice local pubs and plenty of places to eat. I would definitely recommend.
