About the property

Awarded the prestigious EnjoyEngland 4 Star Gold Award 2011-2017 for quality accommodation and customer service, Town End Farm and its adjoining cottages are situated on the edge of the ancient village of Crowcombe in the heart of the Quantock Hills, the first area in Britain designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a footpath directly opposite the farm entrance which leads right up to the top of the hills and across the surrounding countryside which has changed very little from the days when it inspired the romantic poets Coleridge and Wordsworth. Just a few minutes walk will take you into the heart of the village, where you will find the village church, shop with Post Office and also the excellent pub, The Carew Arms. The cottages are tastefully decorated throughout. Each has a separate garden and guests also have access to the owners large gardens and paddocks. We have tame miniature ponies and sheep grazing in our paddocks.

About Bruce Thompson

We have lived at Town End Farm since January 2008 and in that time have made many changes to both the original farmhouse, the cottages and gardens. We have two miniature Fallabella horses and 15 friendly hens. We welcome all hands at feeding time!.

My wish is that guests will leave here feeling relaxed and refreshed with some wonderful memories of beautiful countryside.

Why Bruce Thompson chose Taunton

We first visited the area approx. 6 years ago and immediately fell in love with it.

It totally lives up to its designation as an 'Area of Outstanding Beauty'.

Most people drive past West Somerset on their way to Cornwall -if only they knew what they were missing.

We have walked for miles through valleys with sparkling streams and on hills with magnificent views and yet hardly seen anyone.

The Quantocks have it all - pretty villages with old quaint pubs ,steam railway trains puffing in the distance, red deer, sheep and ponies grazing and a beautiful backdrop.

Why wouldn't we want to live here ?

Special interest holidays:

The Quantock Hills attract walkers, cyclists, horse riders and people simply admiring nature. Although one of the smallest range of hills in the country, the Quantocks are considered to be one of the finest. There are frequent sightings of red deer and wild ponies grazing amongst the heather and bracken, and the sight and sound of buzzards as they circle on the thermals overhead. There are many delightful places to picnic and enjoy the views. Come simply to enjoy the peace, the heather-clad moors, deep valleys, and sparkling brooks. You can pop in to one of the pretty villages dotted around the hills, where you can take a break for a warming pub roast or a scrumptious afternoon cream tea.

Kilve beach (approx 5m) is an area of Special Scientific Interest. Along this coast the cliffs are layered with compressed strata of oil-bearing shale and blue, yellow and brown lias embedded with fossils.

Minehead (approx 10m) offers the perfect blend of nature and adventure. Get out and about to explore the stunning Exmoor National Park, have a go at coast-steering or take a Land Rover safari, or relax with a historic wander around Dunster Castle, or just stroll along the sandy beach.

Bristol Airport is a 60 minutes by road. Taunton Railway station is 20 minutes by road. There is a regular bus service from Taunton Railway Station.

Many Budget Airlines fly into Bristol International Airport including:

EasyJet, FlyBe, Ryan Air.

At the moment it does not sell newspapers but we can organise the delivery of your daily paper provided we have at least two days’ notice.

The nearest small town, Williton is approx 5 miles. There you will find a butcher, fruit and vegetable shop, two small supermarkets, chemist, petrol station, NatWest bank, Barclays Bank cash dispenser, hairdressers, pet shop, antique centre and much more. There is also a doctors and dentists surgery and a vets.

All the major supermarkets deliver to Crowcombe and so if you would like to shop online we are happy to take in a delivery prior to your arrival.
