About Mr. Dennis Lee

We are a recently retired school teacher and quantity surveyor with two grown up children and one grandchild. We enjoy entertaining visitors, holidays, dancing, walking, gardening and looking after our animals.

Mr. Dennis Lee purchased this cottage in 1980

Why Mr. Dennis Lee chose Yorkshire Dales

The property is a newly converted stable block in a quiet location just outside the village.

Originally close to a sand and gravel quarry, this has now been turned into a large lake and wildlife area just a stone's throw from the door step.

We are in a very central location with a choice of walking venues, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.

Our close proximity to the A1 has the added advantage of making Leeds, York, Durham and Newcastle easily accessible.

What makes this cottage unique

Having lived in the area for 40 years we are well placed to advise our visitors on the best walks and places to visit in order to help them make the most their holiday.

We have entertained visitors from various countries including Norway, Switzerland, Spain, Australia and South Africa and are able to suggest places to visit that will cover a variety of interests.

The property has the advantage of being next to our house so that we are on hand to help with any queries, but is not overlooked, so maintaining your privacy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'What a perfect place to stay for those who love walking in the Yorkshire Dales but at the same time want easy access to an abundance of places of interest for those inevitable wet days; we particularly liked Richmond with its castle, noted garden at Millgate House and the wonderful Station bistro, cinema and art gallery. The Stable is a beautiful conversion, tastefully furnished, flooded with sunlight and with every need catered for. The owners extensive garden provides a wonderful retreat for days when relaxing by the pond with a book is all that is needed but at the same time walks from iconic dales villages such as Reeth and Middleham are not far away. The owners live on the property and were always available with advice about the best walks and places of interest. We loved it and will be back at the earliest opportunity!

Home from home

A beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings, so peaceful and relaxing. Everything you could wish for in a holiday home and more. A lovely welcome from the host and the thoughtfulness of providing milk and delicious fresh eggs was greatly appreciated. Also a lovely welcome from Ben ( the four legged friend), he was always happy to see you. An ideal location for visiting the many local places of interest and to tour the beautiful countryside or just to relax or walk. Certainly hope to make a return visit.

Beautiful Accommodation,

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay - well laid out, plenty of room for 3 people, short walk to town/pub, Dennis was extremely welcoming fresh eggs, milk and coffee in the fridge, obviously a lot of time, thought and effort have gone into the place and we will be back to stay again.

Excellent location with superb accommodation

  • 5 of 5

The Stables is located in a very picturesque and quiet spot. The property is clean, light & airy and is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The village, which is only a short walk away, has good amenities - pub, garage, shop and restaurant - and lots of places of interest are only a short drive away. I would highly recommend The Stables to anyone.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Stable. The property is set in beautiful grounds, was absolutely immaculate and is equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Dennis was very helpful when we arrived and explained everything we needed to know about the cottage. He'd even put milk and eggs in the fridge for us, which was much-appreciated. The property is well-situated for visiting many places in North Yorkshire. We particularly enjoyed our days out to Beamish outdoor museum, Whitby, Helmsley and Pickering and will definitely be back, hopefully before the end of the year.

So peaceful.

The Stables is a lovely 'home from home'. We spent 4 nights there and it was very comfortable. The lawned area at the front is so restful.

There are lots of things to do locally for all ages and abilities.

Will definitely be planning a return trip.

There are many places to visit depending on your interests and how far you wish to travel.

The market town of Richmond is only a short drive away and here you can visit the castle and walk by the river. There are some good restaurants and a visit to The Station is recommended, where you will be able to visit the bakery, cheese makers, brewery and ice-cream parlour. The restaurant is also good and a visit there can be incorporated into a trip to the cinema.

If you enjoy walking you can be in Swaledale or Wensleydale within half an hour, or a little further afield are the North York Moors and Teesdale.

There are numerous historic houses or gardens within easy reach and many interesting market towns - too many to see in just one visit.
