Guestbook comments from the owner

'What a perfect place to stay for those who love walking in the Yorkshire Dales but at the same time want easy access to an abundance of places of interest for those inevitable wet days; we particularly liked Richmond with its castle, noted garden at Millgate House and the wonderful Station bistro, cinema and art gallery. The Stable is a beautiful conversion, tastefully furnished, flooded with sunlight and with every need catered for. The owners extensive garden provides a wonderful retreat for days when relaxing by the pond with a book is all that is needed but at the same time walks from iconic dales villages such as Reeth and Middleham are not far away. The owners live on the property and were always available with advice about the best walks and places of interest. We loved it and will be back at the earliest opportunity!

So peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

The Stables is a lovely 'home from home'. We spent 4 nights there and it was very comfortable. The lawned area at the front is so restful.

There are lots of things to do locally for all ages and abilities.

Will definitely be planning a return trip.

The Stables, Scorton

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with this property. On arrival we were welcomed by Mr Lee who was very helpful and offered his assistance should we have any problems. The "Welcome Pack" was very generous and certainly was welcome.

The premises were spotlessly clean and extremely well appointed. The building is in the owner's garden which is very large, beautifully kept and peaceful. We were entertained by "Ben" the lovely dog who mysteriously appeared when he could smell food, and by "Percy" the automatic lawn mower who bumbled around the garden all day, happily keeping the grass trimmed.

Beautiful property and garden

  • 5 of 5

The Stables were lovely to stay in, although it rained a lot the property was bright and warm, a lot of thought has gone into the beautiful finish of this property. The owners were also lovely and helpful. Will definately'stay again, so close to the A1 but if was so peaceful and quiet, you could have been miles from everywhere.

Amazing modern cottage, perfect location! Loved it x

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here at the end of May for 4 nights and we were not disappointed. The cottage is in a perfect location, very quiet and so peaceful. The owners Janet and Dennis were so nice, very welcoming and left us a lovely Welcome pack of coffee / biscuits and even eggs from the chickens on the farm. The cottage was so modern, it had everything we needed and more.

Thank you for everything and we will definitely be back again soon x x

Location

From the Owner

The property is a newly converted stable block in a quiet location just outside the village. Originally close to a sand and gravel quarry, this has now been turned into a large lake and wildlife area just a stone's throw from the door step. We are in a very central location with a choice of walking venues, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Our close proximity to the A1 has the added advantage of making Leeds, York, Durham and Newcastle easily accessible.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Both Whitby (approx 60 miles) and Scarborough (approx 70 miles) are an enjoyable 1.5 to 2 hours drive away over the North Yorkshire Moors.

Travel:

Teeside - Durham Tees Valley Airport 19 miles. Leeds/Bradford Airport 50 miles. Newcastle Airport 55 miles.

Distances:

6 miles - Market town of Richmond with castle, museums, Georgian Theatre and Station cinema.

11 miles - Darlington - railway museum and Civic Theatre.

12 miles - Northallerton - North Yorkshire's County Town.

14 miles - Leyburn - market town.

19 miles - Barnard Castle - Bowes Museum and antique shops.

25 miles - Ripon - cathedral.

34 miles - Durham - cathedral.

42 miles - Spa town of Harrogate.

46 miles - York - minster and museums.

49 miles - City of Newcastle

Further Details:

Scorton village has a village store and post office and two pubs both of which serve food. There is also a village tea room open during the day for light meals and very good home made cakes.

Within a couple of miles there is the Lakeside Farm Shop and Cafe and also a cafe at Historic Kiplin Hall, where you can view the house and wander around the lake and gardens.

There are many places to visit depending on your interests and how far you wish to travel.

The market town of Richmond is only a short drive away and here you can visit the castle and walk by the river. There are some good restaurants and a visit to The Station is recommended, where you will be able to visit the bakery, cheese makers, brewery and ice-cream parlour. The restaurant is also good and a visit there can be incorporated into a trip to the cinema.

If you enjoy walking you can be in Swaledale or Wensleydale within half an hour, or a little further afield are the North York Moors and Teesdale.

There are numerous historic houses or gardens within easy reach and many interesting market towns - too many to see in just one visit.
