Born in Yorkshire, England I set off to travel the globe. On my way I met my husband Noris in Bermuda, where we lived for 11 years and have 1 daughter. I always had a love for India and had many trips to different parts. Our dream was to have a guest house in Goa, my husband's home land. In 2008 we bought our house and in 2009 began building our guest house.
Within this tranquil space we find the peace from the chaos of the "outside world" we live in at present .It's as if we're living at the speed of light ,and a pace determined by machines, here we live at the speed of life .
I like to do yoga ,and health is always a priority for me .my family and guests ,so I'm always helping by introducing Yoga and Ayurveda.
We now offer Yoga classes in the morning by the pool
The view all around is wonderful, lush gardens, coconut trees, which we pluck and make oil, the rice fields and watch the variety of birds and the eagles soar above. We take morning walks at Majorda Beach then have tea at one of the beach shacks and relax in their lounge chairs. We are in the midst of nature, but within minutes we go to the city, the beach and the airport. We love it and want our guests to love it too.
Yvonne Fernandes purchased this apartment in 2008
Noris ,my husband, and his family are from Velim about 45 minutes drive from Majorda, but it seemed remote from modern amenities and school. Whilst on holiday in 2007, we stayed at a guest house in Majorda, we were away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to access everything with ease, airport, trains, beaches, shops, restaurants and school all within minutes reach by motorcycle. The property fell into our hands by chance, 3 days before heading back home. It was what we had been looking for, a large plot of land, so we could build our guest house grow our own vegetables, a garden with 45 coconut trees and still have space for privacy. The view of rice fields and flora, the buffalo wonder in the fields and eagles circle the skies, so peaceful...
The lay out of the gardens, studios and our own home enables everyone their individual space ,yet still knowing you can have company.....
What this property has is the private ground space..It's unique benefit is the total tranquility ,complimented by so many .
A large veranda overlooking the garden and fields, where you can sit with your tea or G'n'T, watching them plough the land and plant the rice,or in the evening watch the sun set, and see the buffaloes go home whilst having dinner.
Tranquility,a place to relax and rejuvenate is a priority and the cleanliness of our environment.
The gardens and the pool are in a luxurious private setting of 2500 sq.m.
The outer perimeter of the property has only a few other dwellings, no one to overlook you.
I like the fact that within minutes I can be in the city for shopping, close to the airport to pick up my family, and guests. Cycle down to the beach. A jog or walk in the friendly neighbourhood of the local villagers.
We have been travelling to Goa for winter holidays for the past 20 years and generally stay in and around the Majorda area. This was our first visit to Fernlodge, staying for 3 weeks. It certainly wont be our last ! Yvonne, Norris and Anya are the perfect hosts - happy to share their beautiful home and gardens with us. Without repeating everything that has been written by previous guests, we can only agree whole-heartedly that Fernlodge is the "oasis" of calm and tranquility in the hubbub of Goa. It would be very easy to never leave the grounds - happily lounging around the pool, watching nature and practicing yoga (my aim for next holiday), finishing each day with one of Norris's fabulous meals - listening to Yvonne's sitar playing. Surreal but wonderful. There are only three studio apartments in the complex and this justs adds to the peacefulness of the place. Having discovered Fernlodge, we would love to keep it a secret - but that would be very selfish. If you are looking for a different experience to the usual Goan guest houses, then do try Fernlodge - you wont be disappointed !
If you are looking for a little oasis of calm and tranquillity, a place where you can totally relax, then look no further.Fernlodge is located about 5 miles from Margoa city centre, 2 miles from the beach, and a comprehensive supermarket, there are a number good restaurants nearby, but the best eating place is not to go anywhere just let Noris (the owner) prepare a meal for you, which you can enjoy by the pool or on the veranda.Transport is not a problem there are pedal cycles, a motor cycle, or a car for hire, Noris & Yvonne also provide a taxis service. We have been to India three times now, no matter which part of India we have visited we make a detour to Fernlodge to take pleasure in the hospitality given to us by Noris & Yvonne.
We had a fantastic 6 weeks staying with Yvonne, Noris and Anya at Fernlodge in Majorda, Goa. From arriving, when Noris collected us at the airport until our departure when Noris took us to the train station we couldn't have found a nicer place to stay then Fernlodge. It was such a peaceful, tranquil haven. The studio apartment was nicely furnished and had all the facilities you could wish for, a lovely hot shower, microwave, fridge, 2 ring burner, kettle & toaster. The studios were spotlessley clean and all share a lovely patio which was great for sitting on in the mornings for breakfast or a sundowner in the evening and catching up with the other guests. There is a washing machine and drying rack available for your use. The pool was big enough for a dip and lovely to sit around and relax. Noris is a great chef and is more than willing to cook meals on request which we did a few times and that was lovely. Yvonne & Noris are more than willing to help and assist in any way they can. Yvonne even arranged Yoga lessons around the pool while we were there, and they arranged a scooter for us to hire for the length of our stay which was really useful for going to the beach, exploring other coastal towns and the supermarket etc. There are two restaurants within walking distance of the studio Johnnies and Paninis both of which serve great food. There are also a couple of little shops 5 mins walk away selling the basics. Yvonne & Noris have 3 lovely labradors, Tara, Amber & Shadow who were delightful and their latest addition Kali the cat who was so cute. For us Majorda was the perfect choice, the beaches are lovely and clean and not too touristy. There are great restaurants on the beach (particularly Albert's) and lots of good restaurants in the village, The Pentagon has good food and great music in the evenings, Fishka was also very good for breakfast and lunch and we also took the Sunday brunch and swim package at the 5* Alila Diwa hotel (1,800 rupees each incl non alcoholic drinks and a great buffet) for non residents. We definitely hope to go back and stay at Fernlodge again, and would have no hesitation at all in recommending it to other guests.
In January 2016 we returned to Fernlodge Studio Appartments for a second year. As usual it was as good as we remembered (see our last review). We did go and stay with a friend at Vagator but were pleased to return to Fernlodge for the peace and cleanliness that this location offers. We enjoyed just staying round the pool some days rather than going to the beach, it was pure relaxation. An added bonus is that a new little restaurant has opened just 7 mins walk away and they serve very good, reasonably priced meals. We are about to book our third, 4 week trip as we love it there so much. Yvonne, Noris and Anya are always on hand to offer advice if needed.
My husband and I spent 6 very enjoyable weeks with yvonne norris and their daughter.apartment had everything you needed, gardens wer beautiful and very peaceful. If needed Norris would cook he is a brilliant chef.Best apartments we havestayed in , in all our years holidaying in goa
I feel I must write to tell of my stay in beautiful Goa.Having travelled there from England primarily to have dental work done(it was recommended by a friend and I am delighted with the results).I stayed in one of the very comfortable lodges that are owned by the Fernandes family(also recommended by my friends) in the lovely gardens of their home in Majorda.Three lovely people who are Yvonne, her husband Noris and their daughter Anya who made me feel very welcome and we were friends from the start.Noris is a fantastic cook and he made me some lovely meals during my stay.I am a big yoga fan and so is Yvonne so we practised together at local classes some days which was great. It was the monsoon season and Goa is lush and green with exotic plants and paddy fields at this time.Plenty of wildlife too, colourful butterflies and we even had a young Steppe Eagle visit the garden of Fernlodge one morning.I went trekking to a mountainous area, the Western Ghats with a local club.Fabulous scenery and the view from the summit was amazing and well worth the effort walking to it.I travelled around on the scooter I hired mainly to see as much of Goa as I could.Returning to Fernlodge at the end of the day with all mod cons and a lovely comfortable bed was heaven.Travel to Goa for a holiday and don't let the monsoon season put you off as there is so much to do and see.I hope to return there soon and see my friends again.Thank you Yvonne,Noris and Anya.
