Traditional Loch Side Croft Cottage And Garden With Contemporary Extension

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Cottage in Moidart, by Ardnamurchan, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - Remote And Tranquil Location, No Light Pollution And No Neighbours And 10 Minutes Drive To The Pub!

Dalilea Croft is situated on the north west side of Loch Shiel, in an area known as Moidart in the Western Highlands of Scotland. Fort William is 30 miles to the east and the cottage is approximately seven miles from Acharacle, which has a good general store, post office, tea room, bakery and pub. There are several good restaurants in the area. Boat hire on Loch Shiel is available and fishing can generally be arranged. The traditional single storey cottage is integrated with an architect designed extension with glass end-elevation, providing spectacular loch views and surrounded by its own established garden which is well fenced and bounded to the south by a small burn. The garden is completely secluded, no other house is visible, with Ben Resipol to the south and Loch Shiel, a short walk across a field, to the west. When the water in the fresh water loch is low, a sandy beach makes an ideal picnic spot.

autumn at dalilea croft

  • 5 of 5

As a family of four with teenagers, we have just spent a wonderful autumnal week at Dalilea. The cottage was homely, warm and comfortable with the added advantage of no TV reception or wifi....life slowed down. We walked everyday...over the hills behind the cottage and along the shores of the loch, took our canoes out to the Green Isle, read books, played board games and the piano and watched a couple of DVD s. Saw a golden eagle and red squirrel. Had a total break. Thank you.

Stylish hideaway in stunning highland setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in August at Dalilea Cottage and loved it! There's lots of space for everyone (we were a group of 4 adults) to cook, dine, read and relax in the cosy, traditional cottage or the super-stylish extension with its loch-facing sunroom (breathtaking view!). Lots to do locally - we cycled to the infamous 'Singing Sands' (even swimming in the sea), walked the Silver Walk overlooking Castle Tioram, and cycled from Pollock to Glenfinnan is glorious sunshine. Make a booking at Ardshealach Lodge to sample some of the best food in the area.

Highly recommend Dalilea. We will certainly be returning.

idyllic remote cosy cottage a perfect escape

  • 5 of 5

A really well thought out cosy and comfortable cottage, a perfect base for exploring the West Coast Highlands. By day we pottered and walked the glens, castles and lochs and by night retreated to the super efficient log burning stove to play games, eat delicious suppers and take hot showers before retreating to our comfy beds. The modern extension has been executed so sympathetically and is a great space. The garden looks super

A wonderful visit to Dalilea

  • 5 of 5

Dalilea Croft is a perfect holiday hideaway. We have been going there for years and always look forward to our stays as the ideal refuge from a busy world. With no other properties in sight or hearing, you can be assured of absolute peace. The croft is attractive inside and out, very warm and cosy, and the new extension is charming with its deluxe bathroom and airy music/sun-room. The views of the loch are second to none and, if you are like me, you might even welcome a touch of bad weather to give you the excuse to burrow away in this lovely retreat. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. We look forward to our next return to one of our absolute favourite holiday destinations.

September 2016

We have been visiting Dalilea Croft for ten years now so maybe this review is a bit biased! We love everything about it -the fresh clean air-the eagles, deer, bats and farm animals and the Ardnamurchan and "Road to the Isles" areas in general. The cottage itself is cosy and well equipped and the garden lovely. On rainy days we sit in the summer room and enjoy the changing skies across the loch. We have seen some changes to the building over the years but the sense of utter contentment and peace stays the same! Our dog Jenny, who is now twelve has spent every holiday here with us -She cries from us turning off the "main" road until we let her in the gate! Dalilea gives us exactly what we need -you can be as busy or as lazy as you please!

Property just what we wanted, very secluded but with walks close by.

  • 5 of 5

We all loved the croft, amazing views, walks and the sea eagles just topped it! For 4 of us enough space to spread out but lovely big table for meals and chats. Clean, comfortable and well maintained. The trips up to the lighthouse and Sanna bay spectacular with singing sands interesting with the tv unit filming! Mallaig easy drive for fuel top up and Co-op (but also used Kilchoan as we were there for 2 weeks), if you arrive around 2.00 good time to see the steam train. Glenuig Inn 20 min drive for food as well as the Loch Shiel Hotel but must admit we mainly ate in - wine supples from the village!.

No internet or tv not a problem as so much else to do and if really stuck always internet cafe available - not that we used it, depending on your phone could get signal enough for some data and texts.

This area of the highlands is spectacular with really helpful, friendly people. Owners excellent customer service and if you need peace and quiet go for it!
