Overview

About the property

A get away from it all cottage in the hidden gem of Moidart, by Ardnamurchan. Perfectly situated for trips to Skye, Mull, the beautiful west coast beaches and hills.

Dalilea Croft is situated on the north west side of Loch Shiel, in an area known as Moidart in the Western Highlands of Scotland. Fort William is 30 miles to the east and the cottage is approximately seven miles from Acharacle, which has a good general store, post office, tea room, bakery and pub. There are several good restaurants in the area. Boat hire on Loch Shiel is available and fishing can generally be arranged. The traditional single storey cottage is integrated with an architect designed extension with glass end-elevation, providing spectacular loch views and surrounded by its own established garden which is well fenced and bounded to the south by a small burn. The garden is completely secluded, no other house is visible, with Ben Resipol to the south and Loch Shiel, a short walk across a field, to the west. When the water in the fresh water loch is low, a sandy beach makes an ideal picnic spot.

Why Steven Mitchell chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

It is located in an amazing part of Scotland - very rural, stuffed with wildlife and scenery - if you want to get away from it all, this is the place for you!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We come every year from Australia to revisit Dalilea and the croft was as usual peaceful, lovely and a pleasure to stay in - roll on our next visit!

Excellent holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage. It was very clean, warm and cosy and had stunning views over the loch. It was beautifully remote but also within a short car journey to stunning beaches and coastal walks.

We felt immediately at home in the cottage which was well equipped and had everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed spending time in the contemporary extension with its large windows overlooking Loch Shiel. We would definitely recommend it and hope to return.

Relaxing and peaceful

  • 3 of 5

The property is in a lovely location which was only hampered by 2 weeks of low cloud and rain spoiling the views of the area. We had a couple of fine days which allowed us to see what we were missing. The wildlife was amazing, sea eagles, golden eagles as well as a wide variety of garden birds and hundreds of bats in the evening.

The bedrooms and bathroom very clean and well kept, however, due to the rain there was damp on the dining room floor and the kitchen was musty.

Didn't miss the television or wifi it was good to 'switch off' and relax.

The enclosed garden was ideal for the dog.

Owner's Response: Hello there Marilyn I am really sorry about the musty smell in the kitchen - It was as you said related to the rain and I have now cleaned all the cupboards out so I am confident this issue is now resolved. A new kitchen is planned at the turn of the year so out with the old then!

Stunning location, stunning cottage, very well equipped and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This is an exceptional cottage, it has everything one needs and feels like a home. It was very clean, the garden is a delight, and the Loch within 2 minutes walk. Floating on my back in Loch Shiel with a Sea Eagle soaring 50 feet above me is something I will remember till I'm 100. There is so much to do and explore in the area, and games, books DVDs for wet days. I really cannot recommend it highly enough.

5 star cottage in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Amazing cottage and location, could not fault it. Second time that we have stayed at the cottage, will be back again. The cottage and garden and the scenery around is perfect for a relaxing break.

Another great stay

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here many times now and we are never disappointed. The cottage is clean,

warm and well equipped and has a beautiful garden complete with stream. We saw eagles, deer and bats from the doorstep (the eagles are nesting nearby) and enjoyed the farm animals too. This visit we had the most glorious weather so mainly sat in the garden and didn't venture far, but there is plenty to do and see in the area. We have always had a dog or two with us-the garden is secure and there are walks nearby if the fields have livestock in them
