Overview

About the property

A get away from it all cottage in the hidden gem of Moidart, by Ardnamurchan. Perfectly situated for trips to Skye, Mull, the beautiful west coast beaches and hills.

Dalilea Croft is situated on the north west side of Loch Shiel, in an area known as Moidart in the Western Highlands of Scotland. Fort William is 30 miles to the east and the cottage is approximately seven miles from Acharacle, which has a good general store, post office, tea room, bakery and pub. There are several good restaurants in the area. Boat hire on Loch Shiel is available and fishing can generally be arranged. The traditional single storey cottage is integrated with an architect designed extension with glass end-elevation, providing spectacular loch views and surrounded by its own established garden which is well fenced and bounded to the south by a small burn. The garden is completely secluded, no other house is visible, with Ben Resipol to the south and Loch Shiel, a short walk across a field, to the west. When the water in the fresh water loch is low, a sandy beach makes an ideal picnic spot.

Why Steven Mitchell chose Lochailort

It is located in an amazing part of Scotland - very rural, stuffed with wildlife and scenery - if you want to get away from it all, this is the place for you!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We come every year from Australia to revisit Dalilea and the croft was as usual peaceful, lovely and a pleasure to stay in - roll on our next visit!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Dalilea Croft. The accommodation was comfortable and cosy and the situation was ideal for walking, swimming in the loch, seeing wildlife, visiting beaches and Castle Tiorum. I would definitely book this cottage again.

Excellent away-from-it-all break!

  • 5 of 5

Just home from a fantastic week at Dalilea and missing it already. The booking experience was v easy and the owner was very helpful indeed. The directions to the cottage were easy to follow and check in was easy. The cottage was spotless on arrival and had everything we needed.

The bedrooms are comfortable and warm. The dining room is lovely and cosy with the woodburner and comfy fireside armchairs. The garden room is a great addition and we really enjoyed playing the grand piano and cosying up on the sofa for a dvd. There is a good choice of dvds, books, music cds and board games to keep the whole family amused. The kitchen is pretty well equipped and even had some basic store cupboard things though we had taken our own as obviously that can't be guaranteed.

We spent the grey days out on long walks with the dog and he loved to swim in the Loch to fetch sticks! Singing Sands was beautiful and we really liked Castle Tioram too. The cafe at Acharacle was so -so (toasties were burnt and bacon roll was a bit flabby!) but the cakes looked amazing! The wee shop at Acharacle has everything you need. The steak pies are fab!

We didn't see much wildlife (a couple of red deer on the way to singing Sands and birds /bats around the cottage) but had fun looking out for it nonetheless!

A fab week in a lovely location and just the rest and relaxation we were looking for.

Obviously it gets very dark at night and we were glad we took torches even just for letting the dog out in the evening /early morning!

Clean , comfortable , quiet and relaxing cottage .

  • 4 of 5

The croft is very much a far from the madding crowd type of cottage ,quiet and relaxing . It sits in a well kept and fenced garden just off a farm road which sees very little traffic , mainly farm vehicles . There is often quite a bit of wildlife to be seen in the area . If you need your Wi fi , tv ,

phone, etc . , it is not for you , even the radio reception is a bit hit or miss . The kitchen in the original croft could do with a bit of modernising but the rest of the house is comfortable .

There are plenty of walks and things to do in the area and the cottage has lots of information on these .

This part of Scotland , Sunart , Moidart , Ardnamurchan and Arisaig , is beautiful and well worth the effort . We had a wet week but it did not keep us in and the sun appeared on an odd occasion .

idyllic cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a week staying in this idyllic cottage for my husbands 50th birthday. The cottage is looking a bit tired in parts especially the kitchen but nothing drastic. We had the most wonderful weeks stay. Scenery from the cottage is just breath taking. Been greeted by lots of little robins in the garden, feeding on the seed just put a big smile on face every morning. The cottages surrounding scenery makes it a wonderful place to relax and wind down. We did encounter lots of wildlife deer, eagles, pine martins and much more. Overall we had an amazing weeks stay and would love to return. A bit of a fresh up to the cottage wouldn't go amiss though.

Great spaces for us to chill out, read, bird watch and chat

  • 5 of 5

Loved the walks on the doorstep s well as a visit to the wildlife center for coffee when wet. Smokehouse at Glenuig was so helpfull and the community shop for vegetables.

Loch Shiel Hotel meal was brilliant with very friendly staff. No wifi - at the moment - makes it a must for evening meals and playing dominoes!
