"During one week in September I managed to cycle most days and never had to follow the same route twice. There is a wonderful network of minor, almost traffic free, roads meandering between fields of sunflowers and maize.

The towns of Civray, Charroux, Ruffec, Confolens and Availles-Limouzine are all within easy riding distance of Les SAULES.

A particularly pleasant way to begin the day is to ride the short distance into Chatain to the boulangerie over the Roman Bridge and the Charente.

For those who prefer off road cycling there are several trails which are described in leaflets available from local tourist offices".

La Rochelle is the closest beach approx. one and half hours by car. La Rochelle is a beautiful fortified city with shops and fantastic fish restaurants. Sandy beaches.
