About the Owner

We are Fleur and Rob. We moved down from Surrey and immediately set about designing and converting the detached annexe into the Boathouse. Our aim was to create the look and feel of a boutique hotel, but with the peace and seclusion of a holiday cottage. Fleur is in charge of bookings and Rob takes care of the maintenance.

Super place to stay

  • 5 of 5

What a super place to stay, this is top end accomodation at a very very reasonable price!

The Boathouse is magnificent, spotlessly clean, all the facilities you could need, and very high quality finish. Fleur and Rob are superb hosts, not intrusive but there if you need them. Iwould recommend this delightful holiday getaway to anyone.

Plenty to do in the area and you must try the fish and chip meal at the Crabshell Inn...

Fleur & Rob thank you for sharing you lovely property.

Excellent accomodation

  • 5 of 5

Just as previous reviews the accomodation is immaculately clean and extremely well appointed. The kitchen has quality equipment far beyond any accomodation we have previously rented. All the recommendations we followed were excellent including the local pub, south Milton beach and start bay inn. The only draw back which was beyond the owners control were the entire sw population of crows nesting in the trees opposite. SO noisy and messy, but we are assured this is just at nesting period!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments, delighted you enjoyed the accommodation and local places to visit. Yes, unfortunately the crows are busy at this time of year, luckily starting to quieten down! Best wishes, Fleur.

Beautiful retreat.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay over Easter, despite the weather! The Boathouse is modern, light and scrupulously clean. The bed was very comfortable and the shower great. There was great attention to detail and everything was really good quality.

We loved the location, it was so easy to visit the surrounding area - Salcombe, Hope Cove, Dartmouth etc. We would have no hesitation in coming back, and hope to do so! The beautiful Boathouse gave us a relaxing break away from it all. Thank you both very much.

Stunning accommodation!

  • 5 of 5

The boathouse is fabulous, extremely well designed, with everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable. Fleur & Rob have taken care to provide lots of local maps and brochures to help you find things to do in the area, as well as a stack of DVDs and books/board games in case you just want to relax at the boathouse. The welcome gift was a lovely touch too.

We found the location an excellent base.

Thank you Fleur & Rob, we'll definitely be back!

Location

From the Owner

We have family who moved to Kingsbridge a few years before us. Each time we came to visit them we were reluctant to go home. In 2008, ready for an adventure, we took the plunge and moved down ourselves. The great thing about Kingsbridge is that not only is it a thriving market town year round, but it's also located on the beautiful Kingsbridge estuary. No matter what time of year the rolling countryside and estuary make Kingsbridge a lovely place to be. Plus the central location of Kingsbridge makes it a great base to explore the wonderful coastline, countryside and other market towns of the South Hams.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

There are plenty of great beaches in close proximity. South Milton Sands is a 15 minute drive away (free parking for National Trust members) and one of the best places to catch a sunset. Slapton Sands is 15 minutes away and features a 15 mile stretch of spectacular coast and The Start Bay Inn, serving amazing fish and chips. Bigbury is a 25 minutes drive away and at low tide you can walk across to the iconic Burgh Island Hotel (frequented by Agatha Christie) and the 700 year old Pilchard Inn.

Travel:

Approximately 1 hour's drive from Exeter International airport and 4.5 hours drive from London. A car is not essential, but is recommended. Nearest train station is Totnes, which has great national links. Buses run from Kingsbridge to Plymouth, Totnes, Exeter and Dartmouth. The trip to Dartmouth is spectacular from the top of a double decker bus.

Distances:

Other local places of interest include Salcombe which is 6.5 miles away. Located on the mouth of the Kingsbridge estuary it features beautiful beaches, stunning coastal scenery and walks. You can also take the ferry from Kingsbridge to Salcombe (seasonal). Dartmouth is 15 miles away and known for its strong naval heritage, tudor buildings, castle and art galleries. Totnes is 12 miles away and has great independent shopping on the high street and the lovely Dartington Hall Estate.

Further Details:

Kingsbridge is a bustling market town all year round. There are two supermarkets (Tesco and Morrisons) and a selection of independent food shops on the high street. The very popular Crabshell Inn is situated on the edge of the quay and only a 7 minute walk away. The award winning Maha-Bharat Indian restaurant is always busy. The Old Bakery is a lovely setting with great tapas. We can recommend some good restaurants and pubs in and around Kingsbridge whatever your taste. The Reel is a quaint cinema at the top of the high street showing the latest releases and you can have a glass of wine! Quayside Leisure Centre is in the centre of town and features a 25M swimming pool. Harbour House is a Centre for Arts and Yoga with a vegetarian Café, located in the centre of town. The pretty Recreational Grounds in Kingsbridge have two tennis courts available for a small fee. During the summer there's a busy Sunday car boot sale on the edge of the Quay. The estuary is very popular for stand up paddle boarding, with hire and lessons available at The Crabshell Inn. There's a lovely circular walk/run from the Boathouse that takes you along the picturesque estuary (very popular with bird watchers) and through the country lanes. The Kingsbridge In Bloom team keep Kingsbridge looking beautiful and have recently won a number of gold medals.
