About the Owner

Dunalastair Estate is owned and run by Ian and Rose de Sales La Terriere who, in spite of their name, are Scottish! The family have lived on the estate since 1891. We have six children and, so far, ten grandchildren who love to come and play in the woods and streams and row on the loch, and climb the hills and play tennis. We just love Dunalastair and can't imagine living anywhere else. It is difficult to find anywhere to go on holiday nicer than where we live! We are very lucky and like to share Dunalastair with our visitors. We have been letting holiday cottages for 44 years now and 50% of our holidaymakers have visited us before, some as many as 20 times, or have been recommended to us by friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"After our walks and sightseeing tours we were always happy to come back to our convenient and excellent equipped holiday cottage and, of course, to enjoy the views and watch the birds." Balmore Cottage Visitors Book June 2012.

"We have been home from holiday over 2 weeks now but I just want to tell you we had a wonderful week in Rose Cottage. These days it feels like coming home" Sarah W

"The outside picture (of Old Laundry) doesn't really do it justice. This place is like the Tardis - it is huge when you get inside. Absolutely dream place to stay - the log burner was great (got a bit too hot sometimes!), and the cottage was so secluded and quiet. Down its own little lane, off the "main" C road. Fantastic! Altogether a "wow" place to stay"

Gill W

"All in all it has been a fabulous week and we are very glad that we chose to stay at Balmore for part of our honeymoon. Looking forward to coming back one day!"

From the Owner

The estate consists of hill farming of sheep and cattle, forestry, trout fishing, sport shooting and holiday cottages (since 1971). The family run the estate with close attention to the environment and are currently developing a new herd of highland/shorthorn cattle that will live out in the wilder parts of the estate and improve the habitat for wildlife. There are many rare and interesting plants and animals/birds to be seen on Dunalastair, including ospreys (summer) red squirrels, red deer, pine marten, eagles and much more.
