Lovely Village House Full Of Character With Beamed Rooms And Shaded Garden

Updated: 21-Jul-2016
House in Escueillens Languedoc-Roussillon - Peaceful Location In Small Village

La Cour de Ble is an unusual house set on 3 storeys. It is 15 minutes drive from the medieval town of Mirepoix and 30 mins from the walled city of Carcassonne. Within easy access of the Mediterranean, the Canal de Midi and the wonderful Cathar Castles the house offers ample opportunities for walkers and nature lovers. The peaceful village of Escueillens is surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards and is a haven for birds and wildlife as well as flowers and rare orchids.

A lovely house

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at La Cour for one week early May. All arrangements went smoothly with the owner directly and he was very helpful.

The house is set in a lovely quiet village which has good amenities within a few miles. The whole area is lovely and we particularly liked Mirepoix. The house itself is on 3 floors with the kitchen at the bottom level. The garden is quite private and we managed to sit out at the front. The stairs up and down kept us fit! There is a lovely lounge at the top of the house where we managed to glimpse the snow-capped Pyrenees. A pleasant drive will take you to the spectacular Cathar castle of Monsegur.

We had no problem with electricity at the house or hot water (lots of). The gas oven worked well once we got the hang of it.

All in all, value for money.

From the Owner

We chose this area because of the beautiful, peaceful rolling countryside. As an escape from our hectic and busy lives in the city, we go as often as we can to enjoy a total change of pace. It's location in the medieval village of Escueillens gives easy access to the historic Cathar country, the prehistoric cave paintings near Foix, the stunning colours of the Mediterranean coast near Collioure and quiet boating, cycling or walking along the Canal du Midi. All our guests and friends marvel at the attractions and want to return at soonest.

Further Details:

The tiny village of Escueillens has only a post office and a Hairdressers but is visited daily by the baker and a series of mobile shops ( green grocer, butcher and fishmonger twice a week).

The nearest small selection of shops at Belveze but there is a wonderful market on Mondays at the 13th century market town of Mirepoix where there is also a good selection of restaurants, cafes, supermarket, bank etc.

Set in the midst of Cathar country the region is rich with chateaux, prehistoric caves ( Foix), medieval towns and churches and circulades, as well as the stunning Cathar castles.

Wine tasting in the Corbieres, Minervois, Fitou and Malapere regions can be combined with walking, cycling, horseriding or boating along the Canal du Midi.

The village has its own lake about 1 mile away and there are marked walks (Sentier) through the surrounding countryside.
