About Susan Alba

We live in Spain and own and manage Casita de Alba, Casa Almareka and Casa Susana. We do all our own maintenance and cleaning to ensure our villas are in perfect condition and spotlessly clean for our guests. I was a City Business woman until I found Casita de Alba in Jesus Pobre and from that day I knew I wanted to live there. I put my heart and soul into reforming the villa and made it into a luxurious, comfortable, welcoming home. We have had some wonderful times with many clients who come regularly over the years and who have enjoyed our properties.

Susan Alba purchased this villa in 1987

Why Susan Alba chose Dénia

When I first saw Casa Almareka I knew I wanted to buy it 1 day, but the owners did not want to sell and I could not afford it so I said to the owner, please give me first refusal if you ever want to sell. From that moment I kept saving. 1 day I had a phone call from the owner saying they had to return to the UK and was I still interested.I jumped for joy and rushed to the bank to ask for a bridging loan (you could in those days!) All went well and in July 1987 the keys were in my hands. It was a wonderful feeling and I set about restoring, changing, updating and had the time of my life. My 1st clients loved there stay in Casa Almareka and I have continued to upgrade and modernise without changing the character of this truly charming villa. I also have Casita de Alba & both are great.

What makes this villa unique

Whenever we get the chance we stay at Casa Almareka because by staying there we see what clients see. We can then adjust, decorate, install, remove anything & everything & do all we can to improve the villa each year. It is central to both Javea & Denia & also Alicante & Valencia and is situated in a lovely location that is peaceful & tranquil yet only minutes away from Golf, beaches, shops, restaurants, in fact everything you could wish for. Ideal for summer holidays with air conditioning & a glorious pool & warm & cosy for winter holidays with the log burner and central heating.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Susan,

Fantastic fully equipped villa standing in mature gardens with a surprisingly large swimming pool. Well positioned with only a 10 minute walk to the local village. A wide variety of restaurants within a few minutes drive. Sue and Nick went out of their way to ensure we were very well looked after, with the villa being lovely and clean, and were very accommodating. Communications were extremely efficient with well provided directions from the airport to this beautiful area of Spain. We thoroughly recommend this villa and would have no hesitation in awarding a 5 star rating.

Did we mention the roof terrace with its sublime views?

Notes on accommodation: Casa Almareka is a real family home. It is very well equipped, comfortable and wonderfully cool in summer but cosy & warm in winter. There is WI- FI air-conditioning and central heating and a wonderful log burner. The pool and terraces are in sunshine all day and the view of Montgo from the sun terrace is quite something. Please call to enquire about long winter rentals. Outside: From the minute you open the big wooden gate and go into the driveway you will see the lovely gardens full of trees and plants, up the steps to the terrace and there is the beautiful 10x5 metre pool surrounded by flowers & palm trees. There are sun loungers, parasols & several areas for sitting to relax and enjoy the sun or you can go to the unusual beamed, stone terrace for a cooler spot. Really good BBQ. Sit on the roof terrace and enjoy the views and the sunset with a gin & tonic. Heavenly Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels & bedlinen are provided and changed weekly. There is a small charge if you require extra cleaning. Please ask on arrival.

Exceeded our Expectations (which were high)

  • 5 of 5

My wife and myself had a fantastic 10 days at Casa Almareka! The write ups and photos of properties can be misleading but our expectations were exceeded at Casa Almareka. The gardens, the secluded pool setting were beautiful (we spent almost all are entire time on the patio and pool area). The roof top terrace offered great views of the Mountains and the valley. There's a new winery going in next store with scenic vineyards which we wished had been opened. Maybe next time. The villa itself is well appointed and had everything we needed. Sue and Nick were fantastic. Sad we live so far away. Wish we lived closer (10 hour flight from USA). Thanks for a great 10 days! Pat and Catherine St. Louis, Mo. USA

Great location well appointed

  • 5 of 5

Delightful accommodation with efficient air conditioning and well appointed kitchen (large fridge freezer great for the essentials!) comfortable throughout. Lovely private gardens with superb, clean pool and novel roof top terrace to watch the stars at night and a view towards mount Montgo. Barbecue easy to use a good size also.

Great starting point for the intrepid walkers to take on Montgo from the back to front - well worth the effort should take around 4 hours.

Jesus Pobre market on Sundays well worth a visit, we dined at la Tasca (best to book) fantastic food and ambience.

Denis, guadalest, xabia, moriara, all well worth a visit. A day visit to Valencia is possible with an early start and well recommended.

Food in the area we found to be excellent and fresh - worth mentioning a recommendation of Susan's Restaurant Montgo.

All in all a wonderful holiday in a great location in a spacious and well appointed villa - many thanks Susan and Nick.

Villa equipped with everything you could possibly need and is clean and comfortable, a real home from home. Owners could not be more helpful and accommodating. Situated in small village with easy driving access to a number of beaches. Wonderful for a relaxing holiday.

Fantastic; privacy, great location, lovely hosts.

Perfect for us - two adults and a 7 month old baby on her first holiday. Susan's villa was spotless, well appointed with quality furniture and equipment and a secure environment. Peaceful but easy access to the village. Beautiful gardens and a lovely pool. Excellent barbeque which we used most days. We can highly recommend staying here. Alex, Jo and Polly

Car: recommended

Javea is a beautiful coastal resort that offers a glorious expanse of golden sand on the Arenal Beach and a restaurant for every taste & pocket. There are water sports, sand sculptures, a collection of shops and only a short 7km drive away. The long stretches of golden beach that can be found in Denia are truly stunning and there is much to see at the bustling marina & port.

Alicante and Valencia Airports are approximately 1 hour drive away.

The village of Jesus Pobre is only a short walk away. Javea and Denia are a 7km drive. Moraira is about 20 minutes away and more beaches and shops can be found at Calpe and Altea or the Theme Park, Terra Mitica at Benidorm is only 40 minutes away.

Further Details:

The quaint village of Jesus Pobre has a bakers for that wonderful fresh baked bread each morning and also a couple of small supermarkets which tend to be located in the homes of the owners who run them. Reminiscent of our local corner shops. The Bank, hairdressers, supermarkets, beautician, bars & restaurants are virtually all in the main street. Sunday Artisan market with a meal at La Tasca should not be missed. Great Atmosphere.
