About the Owner

Goldcrest Cottage is in the perfect location for enjoying the Northumberland coast and countryside. We bought it back in 2011, and instantly we knew it would be a happy place.

We decorated and furnished Goldcrest Cottage to our own taste as we like to use it too. I hope you enjoy it just as much as we do.

We stayed for a short break over the weekend and what an excellent place to stay. From the initial inquiry to arrival was first class.

The arrival pack was a welcoming gesture (especially as we forgot our eggs). The cottage was spotlessly clean, and had everything you needed inside. The beds were comfortable, the rooms very spacious. We would definitely recommend this place and we hope to come back for longer next time. Thank you

More than a Cottage.......

Spotlessly clean, well appointed, good sized rooms. The welcome pack on our arrival was a lovely touch. Excellent location for the north of Northumberland, i.e. places like Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses, Berwick. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, perfect cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is absolutely beautiful, we arrived to a bottle of wine and a box of chocolate biscuits which was a very nice surprise. The cottage was lovely and clean and has everything you need, they even provide things like tissues, kitchen roll, a box of wood for the open fire and much more. We are hoping to go back again at some point, would definitely recommend this cottage.

Location

From the Owner

Northumberland is a beautiful county, with so much to offer visitors. It has a mix of coast and country and history in abundance. We love to visit Northumberland and this is the reason we bought a cottage here. Goldcrest Cottage is in a quite peaceful village, where you can get away from everyday life, relax and unwind. Fenwick village is close to the A1 which means it has quick and easy access to all the best places to visit such as Holy Island, Bamburgh, Ford Castle, Alnwick Castle and many more. Goldcrest Cottage has three bedrooms, a beautiful kitchen diner and views over the coast. What's not to love about it!

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Goldcrest Cottage is 5 miles from the coast and the beautiful beach which runs onto the causeway of Holy Island. Bamburgh is only 7 miles which also has a stunning beach and marvelous views to the Farn Islands.

Travel:

Goldcrest Cottage is situated in Fenwick village, half a mile West of the A1 - 20 miles North of Alnwick and 10 miles South of Berwick upon Tweed. The closest railway station is located at Berwick upon Tweed and there is a regular bus service from Berwick which passes by the village, but not through it. The bus stop is a three minute walk from Goldcrest Cottage. The bus operator is Arriva and both the 501 and 505 pass by Fenwick village.

Distances:

Holy Island 5 miles. Belford 6 miles. Bamburgh 7 miles. Seahouses 8 miles. Chillingham Castle 8 miles. Ford and Etal 8 miles. Berwick upon Tweed 9 miles. Farne Islands 10 miles. Paxton House 11 miles. Wooler and the Cheviot Hills 12 miles. Dunstanburgh Castle 16 miles. Alnwick 20 miles. Craster 21 miles.

Further Details:

Goldcrest Cottage is located only a few miles from the coast and has views over the historic Holy Island. The island’s Lindisfarne Castle and Priory are not to be missed and you can join the Northumberland Coastal Trail from the village, which leads to St. Cuthbert’s Way.

Travel 9 miles north and you’ll reach Berwick upon Tweed, the most northerly town on the Northumberland coast. Berwick has been a thriving trading centre and international port from the 12th century and today has fantastic local produce, culture and entertainment. There are great shops and restaurants and a farmers market once a month which is not to be missed.

The nearby village of Lowick is only a 3 minute drive and has a village shop and two pubs which serve food. A little further, only 10 minutes away is the larger village of Belford, which has a small supermarket, a bank and an abundance of good pubs and restaurants.

The delightful coastal village of Bamburgh is only 7 miles from the cottage and Bamburgh Castle, standing on a rocky outcrop, overlooks miles of beautiful sandy beaches and dominates the Northumbrian landscape.

The market town of Alnwick is 20 miles to the south and its historic Alnwick Castle and beautiful Garden are both exceptional. Alnwick also has a small theatre and cinema, and is a showcase for local talent.

Other historic places of interest close by include; Chillingham Castle, Paxton House, Ayton Castle, Cragside, Howick Hall Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle and Floors Castle.

The local fishing village of Craster offers stunning views from the harbour and is well known for its kippers and other freshly caught seafood. However if you don’t want to cook it yourself, Seahouses has the best fish and chip shops in the county!

Facilities

From the Owner

Once you step inside Goldcrest Cottage, you immediately feel relaxed. It has a serene quality to it. It is comfortable and well furnished, with everything you will need - therefore there are no worries during your stay. It has a spacious garden to enjoy outdoor dining and county walks are on your doorstep. Whilst not fully secluded, Fenwick village is very quiet, despite its close proximity to the A1. This means you get the best of both worlds, ease of access to attractions and amenities, but far enough away to switch off and enjoy a small taste of luxury.
