About the property

FR9106

Moulin de Lartigue was one of 66 water mills along the River Dropt, a small but important tributary of the River Garonne in south west France. Accessed by a long private drive, our 16th Century accommodation enjoys a peaceful setting in 12 acres of parkland bordered by the river. Whilst secluded, bustling Villeréal is a convenient 5 minute drive. Colombage walls, fireplaces, vaulted oak ceilings, mezzanine and bread oven are a few features reflecting a fascinating history. Both self catering cottages are extensively equipped for modern comfortable living, each with their own private terrace and BBQ. The extensive grounds include a superb pool, fishing on site, sauna and outdoor games. You can make your holiday as relaxing or as active as you please. Set in the north of Lot-et-Garonne with its carefully tended orchards the hardest decision is where to go/what to see or do next - there is so much to enjoy!

Why Jennifer Bushell chose Lot-et-Garonne

We fell in love with Lartigue on our first visit one cold February day. It's a wonderful home where we enjoy peace and security. The wildlife is fascinating and every day life on the river brings something new, enjoyable and often challenging! We were so fortunate to have found such a stunning setting & still have to pinch ourselves sometimes, but Lartigue is a delightful surprise to anyone on their first visit. Guests declare that the photos do not do it justice!

Having explored many other parts of France we would not wish to move from our beautiful little corner where the locals are friendly and welcoming, the community and family is important and there's always lots going on.

We just don't know where the last 9 years have gone!

What makes this cottage unique

We have always endeavoured to make our holiday cottages a "home from home" and have furnished & equipped them with this in mind. From the oil paintings to the kitchens where you should find a good supply of wine glasses before having to do any washing up!

We have our free range eggs, our delightful ponies, mountain bikes and all sorts of other little extras we are always happy for our guests to enjoy the full benefit.

More than 50% of our bookings come from guests (now extremely good friends) returning again & again, so we do recommend early booking, especially for our Quercy cottage in High Season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our guests frequently describe their holiday setting as paradise returning time & again. We therefore recommend early booking during High Season. Further guests comments may be found on our website.

Perfect for a relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Quercy Cottage is a very spacious, cosy and clean gîte set in beautiful surroundings deep in the French countryside. It is clear that the cottage and gardens are well looked after and you can choose to spend your time basking in the beautiful sunshine around the lovely big pool, on the patio or exploring the grounds or, when you're feeling slightly more energetic, travel to any number of near-by medieval towns, chateaus, vineyards, markets (there is one to be found almost every day of the week) and restaurants. The great thing about this location is you have all of the sights and activities of the Dordogne less than an hour’s drive away but you can return back to the more peaceful Lot at the end of the day to unwind even more. The cottage was very homely and we were made to feel very welcome by Jennifer and David throughout our two week stay. Our children enjoyed the ponies and our youngest was even able to ride one as a treat on the last day. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will remember this holiday for a long time.

Great family holiday location.

  • 4 of 5

What can I say about Moulin De Lartigue except what a beautiful place.

Situated close enough to Villereal for convenience, and far enough away for a bit of peace and tranquililty.

I thought that the cottage was excellent - well equipped and maintained, with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay, and Dave and Jennifer were great - very helpful and very pleasant with great local knowledge.

The grounds were well kept, and the pool was maintained to a high standard.

The property is well positioned if you want to explore the local Bastide towns, or if you want to venture further afield into the Perigord or Dordogne regions. There is so much to see and do in this part of France that 2 weeks just wasn't enough time.

In my opinion, Quercy Cottage is an excellent choice for a family holiday. and I look forward to visiting again next year,

An Idyllic French Rural Setting

  • 5 of 5

The owners of the property very kindly met us, on arrival, and informed us that we had been moved into 'Quercy Cottage' because the ground around the 'Barn Cottage' was very soft underfoot, due to unseasonal rain. Our first impressions of the the cottage were just how big the building was from the inside. A tour of the rooms merely amplified just how spacious the cottage is. As we wandered around the rooms we realised that the owners had gone out of their way to make weary travellers welcome. Essentially there is a basic welcome pack in the fridge and on the dining room table which is a very nice and welcome gesture. The cottage is in a very rural location and so a car or cycles are essential to get out and about. There is one local retaurant, the 'Monte Cristo', which you need a car to travel to , but it is close by. The food and comapny there is excellent and worth more than one visit. The cottage is quiet and so a good night's sleep is guranteed. The nearby town of Villereal is a ten-minute drive and has all the shops, bars and restaurants that you would expect to find in a rural french town. The cottage is situated centrally for travelling around the region and there is plenty to visit, even if the weather is not behaving itself! The cottage is surrounded by large grounds and there is a good-sized swimming pool, which we were unable to use as the weather was against us. The owners are very friendly and helpful and were very supportive when we were unable to dry washing, allowing us to use their tumble drier facilities for a nominal fee. We really did have a great holiday and recharged our batteries inspite of the damp weather. We ate well, drank more than we should have and made many new friends who we hope to visit agin in future years.

A perfect place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week at Quercy Cottage. The house and grounds are well equipped with all we needed and a pool large enough too swim lengths in was a real plus. You are in rural France so do expect a little bit of sharing your holiday with the local wildlife. Being woken up by a Golden Oriole is much better than suburban traffic.

Not ones for sitting down we visited many of the local towns, Issegeac and Monflanquin were fantastic destinations for cycling, Monbazillac where you can buy wine from the local producers in the tourist centre, and the bastide town of Monpazier where we had a wonderful lunch at Bistrot 2 (I would book).

Dave and Jennifer are wonderful hosts, both discreet and attentive and lovely people. They are knowledgeable about the local area so a great source of information.

I would recommend Quercy Cottage and hope to return some time soon.

Superb

  • 5 of 5

We have been back to this glorious part of the World a number of times. Jennifer and David are excellent hosts, very knowledgeable about the whole area, will happily join you for a drink to two but if you wish for peace and quietness, they seem to know when that is. We've enjoyed so many holidays there and have already reserved a few weeks next year when some of our family will be joining us. Thoroughly recommend this for young and old.
