About the Owner

I am a freelance professional and have loved skiing since I first tried it 39 years ago. I bought the apartment 9 years ago and spend a large part of each season in Le Bettaix with friends and family. The apartment is my second home, not a business. I only want to cover costs and rent out for a maximum 4 or 5 weeks per season so hope it makes for a really comfortable and user friendly ski apartment.

"A lovely, well presented apartment in a quiet, pretty traditional village with a good restaurant and a friendly ski shop. The apartment is about a 5 minute drive down to St Martin de Belleville (excellent restaurants, a bank, a good village shop.) The apartment is in a perfect location. I would not hesitate to recommend and we will certainly go back. Caroline was also a delight to deal with". Humphreys Feb 2012

This was the best ski chalet we have stayed in. The chalet itself was spotless and very well equipt, there was nothing we needed that wasn't supplied. The owners had gone above and beyond to make sure everything you needed was there, including info on the slopes, surrounding area, restuarants etc ...The chalet is 5 minutes walk to the ski lift, past a beautiful flowing river, very scenic. Communication with the owner was second to none, always answering questions by return of mail. The personal touches of heated beds, wi-fi , english tv channels and in our case, milk bread and fruit left for us, were invaluable. The underground garage was also worth its weight in gold, especially as it was big enough to fit the car with roof box still attached. The ski room was large and the boot heater a god send. Our favourite part of the chalet was the beautiful view of the bird feeder outside the balcony, some absolutely beautiful birds came to feed and the most amazing wood pecker.....caroline even has some bird food so you can feed them if you choose , we enjoyed our stay so much, that we have booked again for next year, and needless to say the slopes were absolutely fantastic !

Just as it says

  • 5 of 5

The details given about the chalet and the reviews are very accurate. This is a lovely chalet in a smaller, quieter village not far from Menuires. The chalet itself is well equipped and spacious generally, although the third bedroom with the bunk is not big. The balcony is large with a nice view over the stream below. The walk to the chair lift is fine although I did drive a couple of our group up there one day. Snow chains will be necessary if there is a reasonable fall as things can be more challenging once you come off the main road into Le Bettaix itself and particularly up the drive of the chalet. Due to the amount of traffic on our arrival day and the amount in our car we didn't get chance to shop in Moutiers/Albertville. This meant we were up and down to Menuires regularly but that was no problem. WiFi was invaluable for 4 students. We had a lovely stay here and I am happy to recommend it. Also Caroline was very helpful and friendly to deal with.

Beautiful apartment in peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

This is the most well equipped and best kept apartment we have stayed in in The French Alps. Caroline has thought of everything from a well equipped kitchen to a sofa that you can be comfortable on all evening. We loved watching the birds sitting on the feeder outside the lounge window and we slept peacefully without having late night home comers outside the bedroom window. The walk to the chairlift was manageable but we could easily have driven if we were feeling lazy. There are no local shops so you will need to bring all your food with you and go to Les Menuires for your ski passes before you arrive. We hope to return in the future and explore more of the 3 valleys.

Family skiing holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was without doubt the best skiing accommodation we have ever stayed in. The apartment was accurately described and well maintained with excellent facilities. No detail had been overlooked and for the first time ever..wonderfully comfortable beds (including electric blankets).

Le Bettaix is a lovely tranquil village well served by a 2 seat chairlift which allowed easy access to Les Menuires. The lift closes at 4:30 in January and on twoi evenings we went up as foot passengers involving a 5 minute walk to Les Menuires which had fantastic shops and very reasonably priced restaurants. The return trip was a pleasant downhill stroll along the piste.

We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Caroline's apartment and would happily use it again.

From the Owner

I wanted to buy somewhere in the mountains for years. I was aiming high, in area, altitude and quality. Le Bettaix ticks all the boxes. It's part of the 3 Valleys 600+kms. I can be in Courchevel by 1100 for coffee starting at the local chair and I can ski home to Le Bettaix from the top of Val Thorens (admittedly taking in a bit of cross country track) without using a lift. The apartment is perfectly situated. Le Bettaix is a beautiful little village and we have marvellous, uninterrupted views of the mountains. I love the tranquility. There are no enthusiastic kids coming back from the clubs at 0400, no deliveries or through traffic. Recently, I put up a bird feeder, visible from the sitting room and get immense pleasure watching the various birds morning and evening, including a very shy Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

Further Details:

Le Bettaix/Le Bettex is a small Savoyard village above Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, just below Les Menuires, in the same valley as Val Thorens. It is, according to the locals, the highest, at 1600m, non-purpose built ski village in France.

The big supermarkets are down in the valley. En route, you pass Geant in Albertville and Carrefour in Moutiers for main preliminary shops.

The nearest local shops are in Saint-Martin and Les Menuires. There is a small Carrefour (the best) in Les Menuires which is open from 0800-2000 with a cheap carpark adjacent. Huit a Huit in St Martin, is not open at lunchtimes despite it's name. Otherwise there are many lovely smaller specialist shops in both places- butchers and delicatessens which sell great pre-prepared food.

There are bars and restaurants of all types and tastes in both places, but the nicest bar is probably the Pourquoi Pas (aka The Piano Bar) behind the church in St Martin. If you want to push the boat out there is La Bouitte in the nearby village of St Marcel ( 5 mins drive ) which has 3 Michelin stars. There is a list of restaurants, phone numbers and personal opinions in the house file- add comments please.

From the Owner

My apartment is not typical of French ski apartments. It is really comfortably and fully furnished with paintings on the walls and lined curtains. There are no sofa beds and we have high quality mattresses and bedding, with duvets, two pillows per person and electric under blankets. There is wardrobe space with plenty of hangers and ample storage in all the bedrooms - even the bunk-room which is very snug. There is access to English television channels as well as the French, a DVD player, Wi-Fi internet and CD /I-Pod sound system. There is a library of English books and a few board games and cards. The kitchen is fully equipped, unlike the bare minimum found in most rental apartments. You should find everything you need, including herbs and spices, so you can cook as you do at home.
