Wine is a famous Tuscan export and you can use some of your time here to explore the many vineyards or go on a wine tour (In English, French, Danish, German) and enjoy some of the superior wines Tuscany has to offer. Other activities in the area are cooking classes, truffle hunting and numerous festivals throughout the year.
The property sits on one of the hillsides overlooking the historic Val di Chio and is accessed by a white road. The beauty of the location is the peace and quiet along with the views, the sunsets and, if you are here during mid August, San Lorenzo's evening of shooting stars will entertain you too - or in June, the fireflies perform a fantastic light show - difficult to imagine how beautiful this can be.
Although the houses have central heating, each has a large open fireplace welcoming early and late season visitors.
( A word about airports. The closest is Perugia, about 50 mins, but in addition there are: Florence - 90 mins, Pisa - 110 mins, Rome about 135 mins and, likely to give a - really good fares - is Bologna, which is about 120 mins. )
The train station in the town of Castiglion has easy free parking and trains to Florence and to Rome.
There is also a Studio available - (only for guests taking one of the cottages) - who might like additional independent space).
Greetings from Holland. We chose the larger La Luana cottage for our 12 night stay. The cottage with lots of old charm has three bedrooms (one connecting) smaller sitting room , fitted kitchen and direct ccess to the pizza oven. The private terrace was great for all our meals and with views of the pool and the surrounfding country and town of Fiorentino mad it a very tranquil setting. The large pool was often available just for us, as we all seemed to go off visiting the local festivals and towns - but when we were all there, there was enough room for us all to enjoy with the children meeting new friends.
The road to the cottages is about a kilometer and a half from the main road. For the local village shop, a car is better, and in the town there is a great choice of supermarkets. Friday was market day and, great for fresh (tasty) produce.
The owner was very helpful and informative with ideas of the local features and day trips for us - plus, the very nice touch of a bottle of wine, plate of fruit etc was an unexpected welcome treat.
We require a deposit at the time of your reservation of 20%. The balance can either be paid by transfer or card 45 days prior to your holiday.
We do recommend that you consider travel insurance to cover all eventualities.
Cottages are available individually or in total.
Flexible except during July and August when Saturday is the main change over day, however the property is available for a minimum period of 4 nights - subject to season.
Notes on prices:
Prices include: Linen, towels, taxes etc. Heating is not included in the rate. This has to be paid on site and is by consumption.
A lovely home for the two of us during the late Tuscan summer. The bedroom very comfortable (the second with bunk beds was not used)., a very cosy and sitting room and the kitchen facilites more than we had expected. The owners friendly, helpful and useful guide to local restaurants and services. The large pool and its views were perhaps the highlight for us as we really wanted to rest and enjoy a few good books, the countryside and the immediate surrounds. We also arranged to hire some (very good) bikes which the owners arranged and were delivered to the cottage.

This was one of the best family vacations in italy and most of it due to the house and meeting other families here with teenagers and all
looking for the special time to enjoy the country setting and for our family to enjoy our time in this lovely region . the late summer was even prettier than we thought and surrounding - breathtaking.
Our 12 day stay at Il Borgo was a greet success. Our family (5) made new friends here from Holland and England. The cottage was a good size for us and the quaintness of it made it all the more interesting. The pool good posison, lots of space for privacy.
Everyone here went to the Pallio in the town. It was a mad fun day. the horse race was postponed from the first week and re run, the medieval festival with parades of animals , and local people really enjoying themselves was great.
Evenings here too had added charm - fireflies glowing around the property
The cottage had everything we needed - maybe an electric kettle or alternative coffee maker would make it even better (the kettle is available for gas stove).
IT was our first time to Italy - it will not be the last and we so enjoyed here.
The owners "little helper" Terri was a good local guide and dealt with a small problem one of the other guests had - quickly and no fuss. Good all round.
A big thanks to ROsino for kindness and help during our two week holiday. All the extras of fresh fruit, oil and wine was a good surprise.
The cottage had all we needed - the two boys enjoyed their bunked bedroom and ours had lots of space. the sitting room large, good wifi, TV and a place to relax. The outside - spacious countryside , great vies and - of course a nice pool. This was the first place discover by the children - within 5 minutes Splash !! then the parents joined them.
Lots to do in June, the palio - the medieval festival, the fireworks the clouds and flag throwing - all a great treat for us and the other families here. Visits to some of the towns was also enjoyable, but this was our home for two weeks and we planned to enjoy the walks, the large pizza oven, barbecue and, yes the pool.
Even tough there are three cottages, there is privacy for everyone , lots of pergolas and space.
A good and enjoyable family holiday
This was a last minute arrangement as we had just finished our relocation to Switzerland.
Spending ten nights here was just what we needed. Peace, calm and the perfect place to recharge the batteries. The little cottage had lots of space and character. Outside a quiet terrace where we ate most days - either lunch or supper - and, made use of the enormous pizza oven just along from the cottage.
The cottage was clean and welcoming good facilities and all that we were looking for and - although we had decided to 'switch off' from the outside world, the WIFi facilities were excellent.
Making the most of the lovely weather we spent much of our time around the pool enjoying the changing hillside views, reading our books and just resting. However, being in this treasured land we were enticed to visit a few of the nearby towns of Cortona, Castiglion Florintine, Pienza, Montepulciano and Assisi. All very enjoyable - especially the little town of Pienza.
The owner and his agent were very helpful and very accommodating. always available if needed but leaving us to enjoy ourselves. We also enjoyed meeting another couple form France who had one of the other two cottages, however we had our space and being set in an old olive grove we each had lots of space and privacy.
A couple of restaurants in the area are worthy of mention, Passagio and Pietro - (where there is also a great Gelataria). The local shop - about 2 miles had many everyday items as well as home made sauces for pasta and good pizza bases.
The road was a little disconcerting on the first day as it is a gravel road (which we were not used to) and the cottages are at the top of the hill, however we manged without a problem and it became second nature.
This is a restful and enjoyable place. It is somewhere where you can unwind and enjoy the surrounding countryside and old style charm of Italy. We shall be happy to return.
We found this wonderful little house by chance while on a touring holiday in September 2011, and decided to book it for our visit to Tuscany this year...
(Last time, We recall the owner was very helpful in accomodating us for a last minute booking & prepared the house in a matter of hours ready for arrival - even staying up until after 11pm to greet us at the property. He was just as helpful when we arrived a little early (2pm) this time and was very accommodating)
It was a wonderful find and this year during July it proved just as relaxing - The cottages are set amongst olive groves on a hillside not far from Castiglion Fiorentino & with great views across the valley from the large pool.
Blessed with beautiful weather while we were there it was very tempting to spend all our time relaxing by the pool. But we had come here to explore & so tore ourselves away to visit some of the charming nearby villages with their historic buildings & cobbled streets; not to mention great places to buy the local produce, cheeses & meats. A sort of foodies heaven it turned out be.
The property is situated along a fairly long white/gravel road & about 2Km from a local shop, bar, & what turned out to be a wonderful local Pizza restaurant offering excellent food & good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here & just as before, were very sorry to have to leave after our all too brief holiday here
