Georgian Cottage With Homely Character & Period Features. Central & WITH PARKING

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Cottage in Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors, England, UK - Minutes Walk To Shops, Restaurants And Beach, But In A Quiet Spot

A superb, Georgian end-terraced house at the heart of Whitby. This spacious property, retaining a wealth of original features, boasts stained glass windows, high ceilings, and period doors and fireplaces. Two staircases lead up to each floor, one a 'secret' back stairway, originally used by the servants! Tastefully furnished and decorated, this light, airy accommodation provides a comfortable and extremely convenient base for exploring this old fishing port, strolling around the harbour and cobbled alleyways, or sampling the restaurants and pubs. With long sandy beaches 5 minutes' walk away, this makes for a wonderful family holiday. The surrounding area offers attractions including the dramatic moors, fishing villages, the steam railway and a visit to 'Aidensfield' - Heartbeat country! A wonderful Whitby cottage.

About the Owner

We are Anna and Nigel. We have had previous jobs and small businesses and have always enjoyed property projects. We bought this property in 2009 because it has character and a little quirkiness. We love the fact that it still has a tiny servants' staircase, original fireplaces, coloured glass work etc. If you are interested you can work out how it has been modified over the years. We enjoyed our Whitby adventure making sure that it is cosy and has sufficient modern amenities ( with the help of a group of friendly local tradesmen -one of them invited us to his wedding! ). We also decorated and furnished it to our taste (mostly Anna's -which is a good thing !). Others who have stayed there seem to have similar taste, which gives us great pleasure. We wonder if you would like it too?

Guestbook comments from the manager

Lovely spacious property with period features. Fantastic location in the centre of Whitby. Real home from home. Mrs Wilson, Chesterfield, June 2011

The house was lovely and spacious and had two sitting rooms so you could have a quiet room and a rowdy room if you wished. Even though the property sleeps 12 you are never on top of one another and it has some great period features and quirks. Mrs Swallow, Barnsley, December 2010

We would enthusiastically recommend this property! It's a lovely period house of real character, ideal for a large group, and very well located for shops and Whitby's many other attractions. It was nice that the housekeeper called round to make sure we had everything we needed. Mr Willis, Stirling, October 2010

An excellent property overall. Well situated for the town's facilities and yet very quiet. In general, furnished and decorated to a very high standard.

Mrs Cooper, Ludlow, October 2010

Great house and location

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic house for the 10 members of our family. Everything we could have asked for, within easy reach of the town centre and other attractions. Shame about the weather so we'll have to come back to experience some Whitby sunshine.

Beautiful house in a fantastic central location.

  • 5 of 5

I've just had a wonderful stay here for a long weekend and was blessed with some beautiful weather. The house was clean, lovely and spacious and had everything you needed to make it feel like home. The Yorkshire tea, milk and biscuits was a nice touch to help us settle in and found the guide/folder about the house and area really useful. Its central location with parking for 3 cars is a real bonus and I couldn't recommend this house highly enough. We enjoyed a superb meal at The Marine on Saturday night (booking advisable). The only down side was that we had to come home again, we could of all easily stayed for longer.

It was a lovely house with more than enough room and facilities. It was great having 3 parking places. Very close to all that Whitby has to offer. Definitely recommend it!

Fantastic, spacious and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful house in a fabulous area and within walking distance of all the attractions. It is a fantastic property for larger family gatherings and lends itself perfectly to happy times.

Very clean and comfortable, we would highly recommend. The only problem was that it was so cosy we didn't want to go out!

Changeover Day:
Our usual changeover day is Friday when we ask (politely!) departing guests to vacate by 10am, so that our cleaner can have everything spic and span by the arrival time of 3pm. In the Winter period Fri to Mon stays are common, otherwise mostly full weeks.

Notes on prices:
Long weekends Fri to Mon, 3 nights) are popular during the (long!) winter period of approximately October to March inclusive, so we have shown a nightly price for these dates which when multiplied by 3 gives the appropriate weekend price. We also give a weekly price (which isn't a great deal more ).
For a mid-week winter stay, please ask for discount. For the rest of the year we normally let for the whole week so a 7 night price only is shown. If you have different ideas, please ask!

We ask for a deposit with initial booking, of 30% of the fee. The balance is payable by 6 weeks before arrival.
The security deposit is payable by 7 days before arrival and will be returned ( less any deductions for breakages or damage ) within a few days of the end of your stay.
Please note that no refund will be given on cancellation of a booking.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
