Overview

About the property

Cosy, spacious cottage between Solva/ St Davids, Pembrokeshire, West Wales - Peaceful Hamlet,

Welcome to the Old Tailor's shop which was completely renovated and extended in 2010. The cottage is ideally situated being in the peaceful hamlet of Caerfarchell, which is a five minute drive to St Davids and Solva and the coastal path. It has been renovated to a high standard, with slate flooring throughout downstairs, and some exposed stone walls which show its original character. Deceptively spacious and light inside, with views over the chapel next door and village green. The kitchen/dining area is open plan which makes it idea for cooking and socialising - with a stable door which leads out to the back garden, which is paved and enclosed with garden furniture. The cottage is ideal for couples and families, with oil central heating and the wood burning stove, making it snug out of season. Furnished to a high standard with wifi and freeview.

About andrea callaghan

We have been holidaying in Pembrokeshire for the last 15 years and have dreamed of owning a place - as we eventually want to live there.

We bought the Old Tailors Shop in 2009 when it was derelict and a bit of an eye sore in the hamlet. It was part of a listed building, in a conservation area, that sat in a national park, so came with a few restrictions!Using a builder who had lived in the hamlet and and a local architect, the transformation took 7 months, all thanks to the great local team who worked on it. There are a large number of second homes in this area, so it is vital that the cottage is rented out as much as possible, so it provides income back into the local economy. If its free and you want a short break - please approach us - we would rather it's used than sit empty.

Why andrea callaghan chose St Brides Bay, St Davids & The West Coast

I holidayed in Pembrokeshire as a child and introduced my husband to the area 18 years ago - and we've hardly been anywhere else since! It's such a beautiful area both in the summer and out of season - there is nothing like seeing the dogs running out on the deserted beaches in the winter.

The coastal path is fantastic for walking, with breath taking views.

St David's has a wonderful feel to it, the cathedral, great restaurants, pubs, supermarket - everything you need. Pembrokeshire is a fantastic area for just switching off and getting away from it all - a bit like Cornwall but without all the people and traffic.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage sits in a peaceful hamlet, overlooking the village green with the old Calvinistic Methodist chapel next door. Its location makes it ideal for exploring St Davids, Solva, Porthgain and local beaches such as Whitesands Bay and Caerfai Bay, on the St Davids peninsula.

You're 5 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of St Davids in peak season, but can return to peace and quiet.

Children can play out on the village green, and there are a number of stunning walks from the cottage down the Solva Valley and around the old St Davids Airfield., which is now a nature reserve. Enclosed paved garden is a sun trap - great for relaxing with a glass of wine.

Newly renovated it is very snug out of season, well insulated, oil central heating, double glazing and a wood burning stove.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Excellent home from home! Set in a great location, very central enabling easy access to places to visit. Wonderfully quiet and cosy. Highly recommended.

Fabulous cottage in a lovely little hamlet near Solva and St David's, so many places to visit, beautiful beaches. The cottage is a very high standard, lovely comfy king size bed, great kitchen and facilities etc. we've been twice already and will definately be going back when we can.

Gorgeous cottage, comfy, charming and luxurious all at the same time. Great location for exporing St Davids peninsula, seemed to be 10 minutes from everywhere. Dog friendly and peaceful. I have already recommended the cottage to many of my friends.

This property is newly refurbished to a high standard, well equipped, and beautifully clean - Equidistant to coastline both North and South of St.David's Head, it is very well placed for Coast Path walking. Highly recommended.

Beautifully renovated property - warm and cosy with all mod cons.

Clean, quiet, well equipped and perfectly located for exploring Pembrokeshire.

A very well equipped and located property. Just a few moments drive from St Davids, in a quiet hamlet. The area has a real feel of escapism. It's not difficult to forget life in the real world in this kind of beautiful location.

Solva, the blue lagoon, the coastal path and so much more are all just 10-15 minutes away by car. I will definitely plan a return trip at some point.

The cottage will easily sleep a couple or small family, with all the conveniences of a home from home.

Peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated and equipped property in a lovely peaceful location but only a short hop from Solva and St Davids. The best holiday cottage by far of several in which I have stayed in the area and already booked another stay. Five stars! :)

Well equipped, comfortable and beautifully and artfully restored

Great location - quiet and remote but close to heritage coastline. Lots of great walks direct from cottage. A good amount of local info available and interesting pictures and story of the cottage itself. Magical area and wonderful place to stay.

The best holiday cottage I've stayed in - great location, lovely accommodation

  • 5 of 5

If anything, the pictures of the cottage fail to do it justice. It looked great in the pictures, but was even better when we got there. The cottage itself is great for four people; the kitchen/dining room, living room and bedrooms are all spacious and well furnished, and the bathroom is also excellent. The kitchen is well equipped and nicely laid out.

The property is clearly well looked after and maintained and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. Communication from the owner - directions, instructions, details on local places to visit, etc. - was excellent too.

The location is lovely - close enough to Solva and St David's to make visits easy, but very quiet and peaceful. The Pembroke coastal path is within easy reach, with plenty of good walking to be had. We had evening meals at three places - the Druidstone Hotel at Druidston, the Cambrian Inn in Solva and the Shed at Porthgain - all of these were excellent. There's a small fish shop in Solva (called Something Fishy, and really just an extra kitchen in somebody's house) which sells locally-caught wet fish and also dressed crab and lobster. We had some mackerel that was delicious.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage very highly to friends or relatives.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review the cottage - I think the best part of renting it out is when we get great reviews like this and we can see people have had a good time and enjoyed the cottage and area just as much as we do. We too got dressed crab from the fish place in Solva for the first time on our last visit, and the dressed crab was amazing - well worth a visit. Hopefully you will visit us again Many thanks Andrea & Rob

A gem of a property

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely short break in this beautiful cottage situated in the quiet hamlet of Caerfarchell. It has been very tastefully renovated and lacks nothing. We particularly appreciated the very comfortable bed, great shower and lovely kitchen dining area. Although only 2 bedrooms it feels very roomy and could easily house a family. We love the area and the cottage is perfectly situated near St. Davids and Solva- easy for local amenities but more importantly the coastal path! We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone looking to holiday in the area and we will definitely return.

Tranquil retreat

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fantastic few days in this lovely cottage and recommend it highly. It is set in a quiet, beautiful hamlet just outside Solva. The cottage is decorated and furnished to a very high standard and so homely. It is also like the tardis and actually very roomy inside! The back garden is a suntrap and a great place to relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea. There are so many places to explore nearby and some beautiful stretches of coastline. It was a pleasure dealing with Andrea when booking and the detailed information for guests is so helpful. We loved our stay and will return soon!
