Kirkstone Cottage has been welcoming guests for nine years. We have a visitors book:

We've enjoyed every minute of our stay, cottage very comfortable and cosy, in great location - just heavenly! Weather was superb - sun, sun and more sun; totally un-Lakes like, didn't need waterproofs at all! Can't wait until next visit!

What a wonderful cottage; it has got everything you need. We have had a lovely New Year's week. Everything was glistening with frost, just like a Winter Wonderland! Lovely walks, lovely break, we look forward to a return visit.

We have had an excellent week in this lovely well equipped cottage. The views and location are stunning. We hope to come back again next year!

Gorgeous cottage with lovely views and a very cosy log fire. Cottage, equipment and service all first class. Thank you!

Had a lovely relaxing week in the cottage, we would return! Plenty of walking and good food and drink at the Outgate Inn and the Drunken Duck.

Lovely Tranquil Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 10 night stay at Kirkstone Cottage. The cottage is well situated off the beaten track in a quiet lane but close enough to civilisation for easy access to local attractions/pubs/shops etc. On arrival the the cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you could want or need. Views across the hills are lovely and you could hear a pin drop most of the time it was that peaceful.

Visited many Lake District attractions (Beatrix Potter & Wordsworth's homes) and enjoyed long walks from the cottage which were well signposted. If you are into it, the lake swimming is excellent and free, we tried Coniston, Wastwater & Grasmere.

The owners recommended the Outgate Inn, a five minute walk from the cottage. food was excellent and reasonable, great Sunday lunch.

Overall we had a great time and look forward to returning in the future.

Attractive and well equipped cottage

  • 4 of 5

This was a lovely place to stay. The cottage was really comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Wonderfully peaceful location. We were very lucky to have hot weather and could sit outside and look at the views in the evening. Nice pub in the village. Easy walk to Hawkshead and convenient for Ambleside and Coniston.

Information prior to arrival was comprehensive and provided efficiently. On arrival the cottage was all I could wish for; clean, cosy and very well equipped. Spacious, too, for one-bed accommodation, with enough room for the full size table in the kitchen and lots of space to relax in the living room. Great to find a gas hob in a holiday home, and the washer/dryer was invaluable given the wet weather! Full size fridge and freezer, and a good dishwasher. Combi boiler for good hot showers. And a very nice collection of books, maps and DVDs. Peaceful location in lovely scenery. Perfect!

Beautiful cottage in the most perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I have just returned from a fabulous long weekend away at Kirkstone Cottage. We were thankfully blessed with glorious sunshine everyday, so were able to make the most of both the cottage's front and back seating areas.

The cottage is located in a beautiful little village, and is situated around 50m away from a great pub, The Outgate Inn. We found the cottage to be perfectly situated, so that you are close enough to the large town of Ambleside, but far enough away to not feel like you are in a tourist hotspot! With Hawkshead around a 1 mile stroll away, we spent our evenings wandering into the town to sample local beers. We also took a walk to the acclaimed Drunken Duck pub, which had fabulous views and was around a 10 minute relaxing walk away! Generally the location was unbeatable for us!

The cottage itself was fabulous and as described. The kitchen had all the amenities we needed and all the cooking equipment as well as some cupboard essentials (salt, pepper etc). The fridge was also already stocked with some magnum ice creams, which was great especially as the weather was around 24 degrees!

The lounge was a good size, with SkyTV and a wood burner (which we didn't need to use). Lots of local books and guides of the lakes which was lovely too. The views from the lounge window were amazing, and we spent time watching the sheep graze.

The bedroom was large and the bed was very very comfortable- making it hard to get out of bed in the morning. The en-suite bathroom was also clean and modern. The views from the bedroom window were absolutely stunning, and you get a great light in the morning which was lovely.

The front and back patios were fabulous and great for having some alfresco breakfast/ dinner!! Parking was spacious and private.

Overall, our little break at Kirkstone Cottage was everything and more than we could ask for. We had an amazing time and did not want to leave. We would 100% recommend this property for couples who want a relaxing/ romantic break enjoying all the lake district has to offer without being caught up in tourist traps! With excellent transport links to the larger towns this cottage's location is perfect.

We cannot wait to return.
