Our house is situated in the small hamlet of Le Vey, a five minute walk from the capital of Suisse Normandie, Clecy. This is a peaceful and tranquil area, rolling hills, gorges, rivers, popular with walkers, rock climbers, canoeists, golfers, cyclists or for those who will enjoy the peace and quiet to write a book, paint or take photographs.
The opportunities for sightseeing are endless and too numerous to mention here, but to name a few there are the D Day landing beaches close to the City of Caen, the Castle of William the Conqueror in Falaise, the Bayeaux tapestry, Monet's garden at Giverney all within easy driving distance. In addition there are the usual French markets to explore.
The house is a 45 minute drive from the ferry port of Ouistreham, 1 hour from Le Havre, 2 hours from Cherbourg and 2 hours 45 minutes from Dieppe. The roads are relatively light on traffic and Paris is a two to three hour drive away or two hours by train.
There are large supermarkets in both Conde sur Noireau and Thury Harcourt, both a 10 minute drive away.
Wifi is available at the local camp site as well as in the Hotels and Bars in Clecy. It is, however, cheaper to purchase a French Sim Card!
I live in West London and work within the Education Sector. My husband is a musician and teacher. We both love France and bought this cottage in 2006 which at the time had been partly renovated - we just had to complete the kitchen and remove all the rubble from the garden!
Barbara Bulmer purchased this cottage in 2006
We were staying in another part of Normandie one year and found ourselves exploring this area of Suisse Normandie. We fell in love with the rolling countryside, the dramatic rock formations around Le Vey where on a clear day you are able to watch Paragliders floating around in the sky and if you are lucky you may be able to catch a brown trout in the River Orne, the roads are blissfully free from traffic and the people of Normandie and helpful and friendly - even if your knowledge of the French language is not perfect.
Just the peace and quiet and complete contrast to the fast way of life in the UK. Of course, the food, wine and cheese of the region. Discovering new areas and browsing around the Brocantes.
Guests have said that they love the house, it's "home from home" atmosphere and many have returned again and again. There is a book in the house and if you stay with us, you will be able to read these comments for yourselves.
The house is much larger and much more comfortable than the photos show. The photos don't do the house justice. The nearby village of Clécy is literally three minutes away by car (or 10 minutes walk) and looks like a picture postcard village, but also has a small shop with lots of supermarket type products at reasonable prices, so no need to pack these items. Also there is a beautiful delicatessian and butcher. There is also a souvenir shop with high quality unusual products. Also the river with restaurants is five minutes by foot/1 minute by car. Again, at good prices.
The area is a little rural, but this adds to the charm. You definitely need a car, but driving here is pleasant. (This was my first time driving on the right side and had no problems).
About the house itself the rooms were all well thought out and everything was in logical places and throughout our stay we didn't need anything we couldn't easily find. The house is fairly large and has a pretty garden area with a table and chairs. The lounge is very comfortable with UK freeview satellite TV and DVD player and DVDs. The kitchen and bathrooms were perfect. Essentially I couldn't fault the place and will definitely be back.
This is such a lovely area, 5 min walk to the river where there are cafes,
restaurants, rock climbing, canoeing and the lovely river.
The cottage is really super, this year will be our second visit, and we do not normally go back to the same location, it has everything you could wish for.
The town is near enough to walk for your bread and has a small supermarket, a really French town, that we enjoyed walking around.
