4 honey coloured, stone houses filled with period features set in a south facing pine forest, just 4km from Montignac (Lascaux caves) and 20km from Sarlat. The property offers a large shared pool which is heated and can be covered and has a terrace overlooking the village. Each house offers all mod cons, such as tvs, dvd players, washing machines, dishwashers etc and has its own private eating area outside with a barbecue. Clematites and Chantegrel have benefited from a brand new central heating system installed in 2015 and Clematites has a newly refurbished shower room. Argeline has a new kitchen for 2016 with new units, sink, full sized fridge/freezer and cooker with electric oven.

There is a play area with table tennis, swing, boules etc. Cots, high chairs and baby baths are available. 2 original stone shepards huts or bories can also be found within the 5 acre grounds. The property is ideal for individual families or groups as each house has it's own private terrace and or garden which is not overlooked. Clematites has a large sitting/dining room which can seat 25 people if a large group wishes to eat together. It is also perfect for activities such as yoga. Each house can sleep up to 5 (Argeline) or 6 people and have 2 or 3 bedrooms, giving a total of 10 bedrooms in all with 7 double beds, 7 single beds and one sofa bed. The village is a five minute walk away and has a park with tennis and croquet. Each Thursday evening there is a market where you can buy local produce and eat in the square during July and August. Equine assisted learning sessions with my two horses at an EAQ approved centre are available.

Les Pins offers flexible accommodation all on one floor. The main house is in stone and has lots of period features such as reclaimed chateau doors and exposed beams. There is a kitchen/diner, two bedrooms with a double and 2 single beds and a shower room/toilet off the main double bedroom. There are sliding French windows off the main bedroom leading onto the rear terrace with chateau views.Next to the stone house is a wooden chalet which offers a third double bedroom and second shower room and toilet. There is aslo a second tv and dvd player in the chalet. Outside is a private garden with a stone table and chairs, two terraces to eat on (one covered) a stone bbq and a garage. The house has a dishwasher, washing machine etc.

About the Owner

We are a British couple who have lived and run the business here for 12 years. We have two boys aged 12 and 14 who attend school locally.. Neal also has a project managing business in the building trade. I teach English in schools and to adults and look after a large number of horses which are kept nearby. It maybe possible to organise riding for those who are interested and know how to ride while you are staying here.

Great base for exploring this part of the Dordogne

The area is beautiful and there are loads of things to do - castles, caves, pretty towns and even an aquarium. The property is in an attractive setting on the side of a hill. It's definitely more of an outdoor property than an indoor one as the kitchen is the only communal area and it's a bit of a squeeze. There is plenty of room on both the covered and open terraces.

The interior is a bit tired and dated and could have been cleaned a bit better before we arrived. It has most of the things that you need and the pool area is lovely. The owner is friendly and helpful and responded quickly to our requests.

Lovely week

We spent one week over half-term staying here and I have to say that, despite some rain, we had a lovely time. The cottage was clean and well-suited to our needs. The 20 year-old was able to stay in the cabin and have her own 'space'! The cottages are in a beautiful spot overlooking the small village of Auriac-du-Perigord and are well-placed to explore the Montignac area. Rachel was kindness personified and was incredibly helpful.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation to others.

Perfect escapism!

We have been back to stay here at every possible opportunity.  It's a real secret treasure. I think we've managed to stay in nearly all of the houses and they have all been very comfortable, clean, well equipped and homely, simple and grand at the same time with stone walls, large open fires and private terraces. I love the surrounding nature. It's a large and well maintained area and Neal and Rachel were always nearby if we needed anything and they made us feel very welcome. Great base to explore the area, highly recommend!

Fantastic break

We are a family of 5, with 3 boys aged between 13 and 8.

The accommodation was great, the boys loved the separate chalet to sleep in and made great use of the swimming pool.The owners Rachel and Neal, are great, they couldn't do enough to ensure our holiday was the best it could be. They even got the sun to shine!!!

Hope to see come back soon.

Good base for exploration/activities

Our party used both the main cottage and the cabin. Rachel and Neal were welcoming, but not in your face, and were responsive where problems were identified.

The accommodation is more than, but not luxurious. In our view, les Pins is suitable as a base for getting out and about, less so for spending the time indoors. Bedrooms are better in the cottage than the cabin – we found the mattress in the cabin too soft. The showers were better in the cabin than the cottage. The kitchen is small but adequate, but not big enough for more than 2/3 to eat in. A covered sitting/dining area is outside, fine on a warm night, and dry in the rain. We would not have found it easy in cold weather if we had had to eat or gather together within the cottages, as the accommodation lacks sufficient inside sitting/eating space. There is a washing machine. The pool was well maintained. The games area is rough and ready, but we had hilarious games there.

Chantegrel is a good starting point to explore the region. Auriac has no shops other than a bricante, but a good restaurant on the edge of the village. The auberge is no longer open. The summer market (Thursday evenings), where visitors and residents gather in the village square to buy food, eat, drink and chat, was enjoyed by the whole family.

Montignac has Wednesday and Saturday markets (10 minutes by car) –local produce, plus clothes and odds and ends. The shops are interesting, the clothes shops enjoyed by the girls, with plentiful restaurants and cafes. We did supermarket shopping at Intermarche on the outskirts (direction les Eyzies) - a good selection of dietary products, including gluten free. Sarlat has a huge market (Wednesdays and Saturdays) for everything you want. The free paper, The Bugle (we got a copy at Bergerac Airport), has a list of events and markets for the whole area.

A car is a must. Cycles can be hired in Montignac. You can walk on smaller roads, little disrupted by traffic - the best way to see the abundant wildlife and flowers. Great wildlife in the grounds and countryside.

Canoeing from St Leon was family friendly, and required no great skill, nor did the treetop climb. The caves are fascinating – the nearest, Lascaux II has good English tours (tickets only available at the outlet in Montignac and cannot be bought on site).

Equine Assisted Learning with Rachel was enjoyed by our party, with two sessions. The result was a more confident ride out from the stables at Thonac.

Paradise!

Les Pins is all that it says and more, it surpassed all our expectations!

We loved it, our children could not have been happier and our hosts Rachel and Neal were both friendly and welcoming.

Les Pins was beautiful, clean, with all that we needed and plenty of space for us all, with a choice of eating places, the swimming pool we used constantly, most especially the children.

The area was stunning, so much to see and do, one of the places we found so interesting was Domme, steeped in history and of course the Lascaux caves both of which were so worth a visit, and not forgetting Montignac on the river, which have wonderful markets twice a week, with delicious local produce plus arts and crafts.

We had such a wonderful holiday we can not recommend it more highly, we will certainly return and recommend to friends.

Location

We love the area, the food, architecture and the landscape. There is so much space here and the quality of life is amazing. Having horses enables us to really explore the beautiful countryside. We are very close to the popular towns of Sarlat, Beynac etc but it really does feel peaceful and calm here.

Special interest holidays:

I can organise horse riding for individuals or small groups on our gorgeous Irish Cobs which are kept nearby at a Chateau.

Coast/Beach:

There is an etang 10 minutes drive away which has a small beach, café and pedalos to hire. It is a nice and safe place to swim and the café hosts concerts with live music in the summer.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Brive a 40 min drive and then Bergerac or Limoges about 1hr 15 minutes away. It is essential to have a car while staying here.

Distances:

Auriac-du-perigord is a 5 minute walk and Montignac is 4km. Sarlat is 20km away. Nearby are canoeing, horse riding, chateaux, gardens, caves, tree climbing parks etc. There is an etang nearby with a small beach and café which offers concerts in the season.

Further Details:

Montignac offers all facilities such as banks, pharmacies, restaurants etc. Auriac-du-perigord has a weekly market in the summer which you can purchase food and eat at. It also has one restaurant, tennis court, croquet and park. There are weekly summer walks organised from the village which are free to join. Rachel can offer equine assisted learning sessions with her horses. Sarlat is just a 20 minute drive away and the Lascaux caves are just 10 minutes away.

Changeover Day:
During the main holiday season, change over day is Saturday but outside of July and August we can be flexible and are open all year. Departure time is 10 am and arrival after 4pm in July and August.

  • Notes on accommodation: The houses can be booked singly, for 2 or more families or for large groups and offer areas to eat together, inside and out. They are suitable for hosting celebrations such as weddings, anniversairies, birthdays or for Christmas/ New year. During high season, the lets run from Saturday to Saturday but outside of that short stays and w/e 's are possible. Outside: Argeline has 3 outside terraces (2 covered) and a private garden.
