About Mike Williams

Mike and Mark.We are both British, but we have lived in Amsterdam for the past 20 years. Mike has recently retired. Prior to that, most of his career was spent in the British higher education system. Mark has had a long career in fashion retail. Prior to moving to Amsterdam we lived in northern England. We have both travelled extensively in Europe, North America and Asia as part of our professional lives as well as for holidays.

Mike Williams purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Mike Williams chose Haut-Vaucluse

Over the last few years we have holidayed in Provence quite frequently and grown to love the region for all the obvious reasons: Climate. Countryside. Food and Wine. Outdoor Activities. Historic Towns and Villages. In the long term we may well live permanently in this house. For the time being, we are sharing our time between Amsterdam and Provence and we are pleased to rent the house out when we are not there.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with this property at first sight. It seemed to tick all the boxes for us. The character/location of the house is typically rural but that is combined with an interior which meets our tastes in terms of good design. A fussy "Provence country cottage" look would not be to our taste. Le Mas du Bourellier is light, airy and stylish with a high level of attention to detail. The village of Cairanne is really close and has everything you need on a daily basis. Only 5 minutes away there is a fuller range of shops. We love the wide range of local markets. There is one every Saturday in St. Cecile and most days of the week have a market somewhere if you are willing to travel a bit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"This lovely house exudes charm by the bucketful. Nestling in the heart of typical Provence countryside, it's one of those rare gems you stumble across and feel immediately at home. Private, secluded and very well equipped: swimming pool, internet, iPod dock, and a fantastic choice of TV channels. We mostly spent our days in and out of the swimming pool, reading, listening to music and cooking with ingredients from nearby markets. But we also explored the villages up in the mountains and surrounding areas and we had a great private wine tasting with the Berthet Rayne brothers our next door neighbours. A truly exceptional rental. Paradise found." Pip and Annika.

"Totally lived up to (and even exceeded) the description on the web site. This oasis of peace was an absolute delight. Just finished making some 'confiture des figues' with the beautiful ripe figs on your tree as I couldn't bear to see them unused - have left you a jar in the store cupboard." Bridget.

Notes on accommodation: TV is by Freeview satellite. This means you can get all UK stations. Perhaps more important, the system also receives all BBC radio stations, including Radio 4. (We realise that some of our guests, just like us, cannot live a day without this lifeline - even when on holiday.) An iPod dock is provided so you can play your own music (or words). There is also a good quality DVD/Blue-ray player. So there is a great selection of in-house entertainment in the unlikely event of your not wanting to go outdoors. Outside: The private swimming pool is 8x4m. It is directly adjacent to the french windows at the back of the house and surrounded by a paved area. There are 6 sun beds and a solar- heated outdoor shower. The garden is completely enclosed by walls and hedges and very secluded. It is full of mature vegetation. There is a pergola at the back which is covered by vines - very necessary in the hottest months. There is outdoor dining furniture for 6 people and a sturdy barbecue. From the rear of the house (by the pool) there is a splendid view of Les Dentelles de Montmirail - our local mountains. They look great all the time but sometimes at sunset they are breathtaking. Utility Room: Separate utility room contains central heating boiler and a top-loading washing machine. Iron and ironing-board. Indoor and outdoor drying facilities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The house is fully stocked with bed linen, indoor towels and pool towels. It is thoroughly cleaned at the beginning and end of each letting period. There are local caretakers. Extra cleaning (and support) services can be arranged for an extra charge.

A beautiful house in wine country

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a fantastic week long holiday and can't say enough about the property and area. Vineyards surround the house and it is a lovely and peaceufl area.

We were a party of four adults and a two year old toddler and the property was perfect for our needs. The ground floor and walled gardens of the house made for a great area of exploration for our daughter. For her safety, it helped that the pool area was raised as it gave us a little extra time to keep her away from the water!

Aside from wine, there was plenty to do in the area. We saw sights in Avignon and Orange and went to a few local markets as well.

The owners were very responsive and helpful both before and during our stay. The house has pretty much everything you could need and is extremely well kept.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great time and you thought the house was good for a young child. As well as the pool area being raised, there is also a pool alarm which emits a very loud noise if a child (or pet) were to fall in by accident.

Perfection in Provence......a home from home

  • 5 of 5

I can honestly say that Mike and Mark have done an amazing job with this place. From the moment you walk through the door, it feels like a home - not just somewhere you're staying a couple of weeks. Everything you could possibly want or need is to hand in the house......

The location in the vineyards is magical and the pool fantastic for the kids to splash around in. Although too far to visit the coast, you won't be short of things to see and do - Avignon, Aix en Provence, Orange, Mont Ventoux. We had an amazing time exploring.

For the wine connoisseur - you really can't get better. For the keen cyclist.....Mont Ventoux is a Mecca.....For the explorer.....there are chateaus and roman sites a plenty. For those who just like to put their feet up.....you can do that too, lounging by the pool or under the shady arbour.

All in all - c'est parfait.....

Fabulous holiday in provence

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house for a week with our 2 girls (7 and 9 years). The weather was very warm, 35 degrees most days so we were thankful of the breeze! The house was well equipped with all the mod cons you'd expect. The outside area and pool were a real treat. There was areas of much needed shade and stunning views.

The owner was very helpful and we would return given the chance.

Fantastic accommodation nestled in the vineyards

  • 5 of 5

Our group of four couldn't fault the accommodation which was clean, well maintained, and had everything we needed. Communications with the owners were also faultless. Location also fantastic - quiet and tranquil but with amenties available in the village nearby and a good variety of restaurants. We'd return without hesitation.

Great holiday villa

  • 5 of 5

Well equipped and nicely furnished villa in an area with lots of interest. The barbecue and swimming pool were in regular use throughout the week. We spent much time relaxing in shade or sun but also visited the local area including wine co-operative in

and wonderful view from the vieux village, meal at the restaurant and take away pizza on the last night, Vaison la Romaine, ice

cream Parlour in St Didier, Grignan,

Valreas etc We really needed another week but will cherish our time spent in this well maintained and lovingly cared for property, which we heartily recommend.

I cannot speak highly enough of this property. I have rented properties in France on about ten occasions, each a different property, and this is by far the best; location, equipment, quality of fixtures and fittings - everything. The owners were very responsive to our questions prior to our arrival, and the people employed to service the property and welcome us on arrival were excellent. The village for daily bread etc is about a mile away, big supermarkets about 20 mins drive. Did not try any restaurants as we used the barbeque every night. If you want total peace and quiet in a very well appointed property, look no further.
