About the property

7 bedroom+2 mezzanines, 4 bathroom, 1 hammam, sleeps 10 - 21 next to slope

Our chalet is self-catered or catered and is located in the Oz en Oisans resort in the heart of the French Alps. We've completely restyled and modernised the chalet in 2015. A button lift is located just 100m from the chalet giving a ski in/ski out location. Oz is part of the Grandes Rousses/Alpe d’Huez ski area which is one of the largest resorts in the Alps. The ski area has more than 250km of pistes and plenty of off-piste routes for the more experienced skier. Two Gondolas provide rapid access from Oz to the main resort area with queues a rarity. There are a number of aspects that make Oz the perfect resort for families with children. There are no cars in the main resort area. The skiing in Oz itself is self-contained. A carpet lift and 2 button lifts is ideal for children as they start to learn and develop their skills. Access to the high mountain is not possible without taking one of the gondolas. For smaller children there is a creche, La Petite d’Oz in the resort, which takes children from 6 months up to 6 years.

About Sander Koeleman

Hi. We live in Holland and have 2 children, 14 and 16 years old. From Holland it's a good drive towards Oz. The first years we went by plane (Easyjet, Geneva), but since last years flights are possible to Grenoble airport (Transavia, Easyjet). In Holland we run a large dental practice. The spare time we use to go on holiday to Oz (winters) or to Lefkas, Greece (villa Elvira).

Why Sander Koeleman chose Oz

Love at first sight. We went to Oz while Vanessa was pregnant of our first daughter. The trip by car from Geneva was perfect. Even in October, the weather was that perfect that we ate outside that day. After visiting the chalet, we didn't have any doubts and told the broker that we'd like to purchase it. The Alpe d'Huez ski area is fabulous and far better then most ski areas we know. Of course, that our chalet is located right beside the slopes is very special. That there are nearly no queues for lifts was also an eye-opener! Every year we bring lots of friends or friends are hiring it - it is big enough! Last years we've saved money for a total restyle of the chalet. Last year we've build an enormous balcony around the chalet, this year all bathrooms, the kitchen, the floors and furniture are renewed and modernised. We've build a hammam and there's even more space created for your ski-equipment.

What makes this chalet unique

Large, luxury, stylish, well situated: directly under the road, therefore no long stairs and almost next to the skilift. We've created a good wifisignal in the chalet, which is hard to find in other locations.

Beautiful property in stunning location

A beautiful place to stay on the lower side of Oz Village close to the small Poma approx 100m away which was handy for any beginners or getting you to the gondola in the morning to save the walk uphill. Everything that you would wish and more.

A very spacious Chalet, recently modernised to an exceptional standard ,very clean and everything provided for you, no worrying about taking towels etc as all provided ,Dishwasher was a godsend for glasses and wifi was good even taking into account the number of phones and tablets connected.

Beds are lovely and comfortable as is everything else .Lovely decking area to side and front looking out over the valley below.

The refurbishment carried out to the chalet is first class, the bathrooms are all of a quality finish as is the kitchen together with its modern appliances. Sitting area was extremely comfortable for our party of 12.

Chalet also has a super dining area. Only sorry we didn't spend more time in, however, snow was good and the sun was out and we strolled in town each night !

Communication with the owners was excellent, we were also given a car park space for our weeks stay which was unexpected.

I cannot emphasize enough how impressed we all were of this accommodation which made our holiday.

We hope to return soon !

Owner's Response: This lovely review was posted by a party of 12. Of course, weatherconditions were great for them, but we're very happy with the nice words about the chalet, which took us a lot of time to make it as comfortable as we'd like to have it on our own holiday. We've always one card for a car available for renters in the public garage. Other guests with cars can however park there as well, for around EUR 25 per week. Enough parking places can be found there, as well as on the street which is free of charge. Thank you for your review and hope to welcome you again! Sander

Great Holiday

Firstly I must comment on how professional and helpful Sander the owner is with his help with us arranging this holiday. He was very fast at responding to emails and most helpful with any little queries we have had.

The house is large with a very nice family area with a stunning oak table which comfortable sat all 13 of us, with room for more. The bedrooms are very clean, nicely furnished but on the small side but nothing that is a problem. The shower/bath rooms are very modern with plenty of hot water. The only negative i have on the chalet is there are not enough toilets, 3 toilets for 13 people is a struggle but nothing that would put me off staying here again. The boot room is well set up with plenty of storage but it would be good to have more hooks in the bedrooms so that you can hang things up to dry. Once we had mastered the heating the chalet was very warm and the underfloor heating a treat. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, plenty of crockery and cutlery which meant we didnt need to wash up after every meal. The dishwasher, hob and oven were very good and allowed to us to cook en mass every night.

The location is very good but do remember there is a trek up quite a few steps to get to the Clos du pre slope, its a short distance but if you have young children you may want to take their skis up first in snow boots and come back again to put your boots on!

The town of Oz is fabulous, i loved it and there is a great little supermarket and cafes all of which cater for a variety of needs and tastes.

We didnt use the ski school but as a large party of varying abilities we were never short of somewhere to ski. I as a rubbish regular loved the greens at Alpe Dhuez as did my friends and daughter, whilst my son and husband and their group were off up La Sarenne and all over the place. This chalet really was a treat and i would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Thank you Sander for a fabulous week.

Ski Holiday in Oz en Oisans

We had a great time staying in this chalet and the views were fantastic. It was exactly as per the listing description and in fact the common area was bigger than I expected. There were 15 of us staying in the chalet and it easily accommodated this number. It was very clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery. The seating arrangement for meals worked really well.

The owner was extremely helpful in providing any information we needed during the lead in to our holiday and the manager of the property was pleasant, friendly and helpful when we arrived.

We had a couple of pleasant evenings in the local hotel/bar Oz's and the local supermarket was well stocked for our self catering needs. Due to the fact that the resort is relatively small we felt quite safe letting some of the older children walk around the resort by themselves. There is a pool in one of the hotels which can be used by the public,I think the prices were around €5 per adult and €4 per child. Don't forget your speedo's as swimming shorts are not allowed. There is also a community hall that seems to provide other activities such as badminton and table tennis. We didn't use this as we were too busy skiing/snow boarding.

The beginner slopes and lifts to the higher pistes are only a short walk away from the chalet, which was great for us as we had a 5yr old in our group. During our stay there was not a lot of snow in the resort but this made it very easy to get around and the beginner slopes were good for our beginners. The access to the higher pistes is easy and quick and there was plenty of snow there.

All in all a great week in Oz en Oisans. I'm tempted to return for a Summer break too!

Brilliant stay

The chalet was the best I have stayed in when skiing. I was worried that it might not be spacious enough for 16 people, but my fears were completely allayed. The descriptions of layout and facilities were very accurate and in fact all rooms were bigger than I expected. The property was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the amount of crockery, glassware etc was amazing.

The local Manager was extremely helpful, especially when our group needed medical advice. I would thoroughly recommend this property and would be more than happy to stay there again. My dealings with the owner were brilliant.

The local bar Oz's was very welcoming and also ski hire at G Sports.

Access to skiing was also very close - about 100 yards away!
