About the Owner

Terry is an architect and Christine works with children from deprived backgrounds. We live near Stratford -about as land locked as you can get!

utiful and unspoilt county and the Welsh Marches have stunning scenery, great food and lovely gardens.

Titley is a really special village with the nature reserve and walks on the Mortimer trail. The nature reserve and lake is tucked away behind the barn and is such a magical place - we have never seen anyone else there when we have visited so it's like having our own private reserve with unploughed meadows and rich birdlife and wild flowers

Lovely house.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well equipped, comfortable house with private parking close to shops and restaurants. A great location. After a day of sightseeing we loved sitting outside in the sunshine with a cup of tea! I would recommend this property and hope to stay here again in the future.

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our booking at The Auction House was perfect in every way.

Quick, helpful responses from the owners.

Detailed information on booking, ferries plus some suggestions of what we might like on the island accounting for our 2 children.

Easy to follow instructions for directions and arrival.

Immaculately clean house and so well equipped with everything you can imagine - some beautiful finishing touches. I especially loved the four poster bed, gorgeous decor throughout and all the extras such as beautiful hand wash and lotion, welcome gifts and everything you can imagine for the kitchen.

The location is perfect- a quiet courtyard with easy parking and access.

When my daughter was poorly whilst there with a throat infection over bank hol weekend I emailed the owner for advice on walk in centres and pharmacies - she responded in minutes with various, much appreciated suggestions.

The location within Ryde is lovely - central to shops and cafes, a short walk to plenty of beautiful golden sand.

I really hope to stay at The Auction House again in future years. Thank you so much Christine for a stress free, relaxing and easy stay at this lovely, luxurious property.

Jennie Caladine.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely property, immaculate, really enjoyed our stay here, everything you could wish for, the owners had thought of everything, child friendly. Def would stay again, central to town but hid away. Lots to do in ryde, a good base to travel around the island. Owners were brilliant and very helpful.

Excellent accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, clean house. Very close to beach, restaurants and shops but set back from main road so no noise late at night. All the amenities you need were included. Particularly grateful for the Summer duvets and a fan as it was warm whilst we were there. Lots of helpful extras were left in the property- cling film, tin foil, kitchen roll, washing up liquid etc plus tea and coffee, pint of milk and a bottle of wine on arrival! Great base for exploring Ryde. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic!!

  • 5 of 5

We can only agree with the other reviews, this cottage was fantastic, after a long journey to be greeted with tea, biscuits and wine was a great start. The house is lovely more like a high class home than a holiday cottage, in a great position close to the high street and town but set in a quiet location- with car parking right outside. The beds were very comfortable and to have a four poster was a bit of luxury.

The house had everything you want and need, towels provided, dishwasher tablets etc they have really tried to think of everything(even a stair gate which was very useful as sometimes the children sleep walk.) The courtyard was lovely too, very quiet with lovely plants which the children loved to water everyday.

The Island has so much to offer, we ran out of time and for the first time ever in this country wished we had booked a fortnight. Ryde itself had everything that our children (3 and 6) wanted a fantastic beach, play area, boating lake, small funfair and a swimming pool.

Our girls were so upset when we left both the Island and our holiday cottage we will definitely be back and be recommending the Auction house to our friends and family. Thank you

Does everything is says on the tin.

We agree with everything in the previous review.

The house is nicely decorated, well maintained, has good facilities, and is clean; all of which made for a very happy, comfortable holiday.

It has a good kitchen for cooking, and the TV, DVD, CD and WiFi made time at the house every bit as enjoyable as the days out.

The location is quiet, with easy access to the main town, beach and cycle ways. It is the perfect base for exploring the island.

For us the storage shed for the bikes was very useful. It is shared with the other properties, but this is not a problem as it is large, and the neighbours are friendly and helpful. The roads tended to be a bit busy for cycling with the children, but there are plenty of off road cycle paths to keep us busy.

There is plenty to do in Ryde, and around the island, a week was not really enough. The suggestions in the guest’s book, and box of pamphlets were very useful. We plan to return to the island some time to see the rest, and would not hesitate in returning to The Auction House.

Location

From the Owner

We have been visiting the Isle of Wight for several years for short breaks having really enjoyed the varied landscape and gentler pace of life. We find Island breaks a good stress-buster! Ryde is a great base for all year round breaks. It is so convenient to access from the ferries (5-15 minutes) which is helpful if you have had a bit of a trek to get to the Island. Ryde has plenty of facilities, wonderful beaches and everything you need for a relaxing break whether you want to eat out or cook at home.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Ryde at 50 Metres Nearest Ferry : Fishbourne at 2 Miles Nearest Golf : Ryde at 1 Miles Nearest Train : Ryde at 150 Metres Nearest Restaurant : Ryde at 50 Metres Nearest Beach : Ryde at 150 Metres

Coast/Beach:

Ryde is renowned for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. The nearest beach is barely a 5 minute stroll from the house. It provides a great vantage point for watching the cruise ships and sailing boats in the Solent. We love to go paddling there at sunset! Ryde Pier, the longest in the country, has just been restored to its former glory. Our other favourite is Appley's golden beach, lined with trees and beach-huts, where you can watch the kite-surfers. There is also a busy marina.

Travel:

Southampton is the nearest airport on the mainland. The ferry from East Cowes (5 miles) connects with Southampton.

A car is not essential as the Portsmouth catamaran and hovercraft connect with Ryde Pier. It is a five minute walk to the house/two minute taxi ride. The island railway connects Ryde to the coastal resorts of Shanklin and Sandown. Buses are frequent to the capital Newport with ongoing connections to other parts of the island.

Distances:

Newport - 8 miles. Sandown - 4 miles. Shanklin-6 miles. Ventnor - 10 miles.

Cowes - 5 miles (by chain ferry). Osborne House, Queen Victoria's holiday residence - 6 miles. Carisbrooke Castle - 9 miles.

Further Details:

We love:- Havenstreet Steam Railway - 3 miles - travel the island by steam train hopping on and off at villages along the way; the privately owned Ryde cinema - tickets an unbelievable £2.50 - great if the weather is not so good;

walking the coastal path to the quaint village of Seaview - 2 miles - a stop at the trendy Boathouse Pub is recommended; going for cruises on the Solent to visit the historic boatyard at Portsmouth or to Southampton to see the cruise ships; just strolling around Ryde, admiring the lovely architecture and popping in favourite coffee shops. Ice rink, lawn bowling and bowling alley, waterside pool on the Esplanade - 300m.

There is a large Co-Op around the corner and a Tesco Extra on the outskirts of town. Don't miss the Saturday Farmers' Market for artisan breads, freshly-caught crab and lobster and organic produce from the Island. Ryde has plenty of chic shops, cafes and restaurants.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love the fact the house is near the centre of town and yet is so tranquil - just a few seagulls to wake up to in the morning and the beach just a stone's throw away from the house. The four-poster bed makes us feel spoilt - a little luxury is essential on holiday, isn't it? We have furnished The Auction House to the standard of our own home rather than as a holiday let. We hope our guests will appreciate the extra touches we have put into the house.
