About the property

Bespoke four-poster bed, stylish decor throughout, close to the beach

The Auction House,located in the heart of Ryde, is part of a stylish conversion of Ryde's Victorian sale rooms. It has been equipped and furnished in a careful blend of contemporary and traditional boutique-hotel style to provide a relaxing and comfortable base for your holiday. The whole house is flooded with light throughout the day.

Downstairs the sitting room is furnished with Laura Ashley sofas and French windows open out onto the courtyard - perfect for bringing the outside in or sitting out with a glass of wine or morning coffee. The stylish kitchen/dining area incorporates a peninsular bar so the cook doesn't miss out on any action! There is also a downstairs cloakroom.

Upstairs there is a beautiful mahogany, hand-carved four-poster bed in the main bedroom with stunning sunburst canopy. The twin bedroom is fresh and sunny. Both bedrooms have crisp bedlinen and proper pillows. There is a contemporary bathroom ( large bath with shower over).

Outside there are two patio areas (one private area to the side of he house) furnished with mature hydrangeas, palms and shrubs. Seating for 4 is provided. Car parking for one is available in the courtyard adjacent to the house. Additional paid car parking is available adjacent to the courtyard.

Ryde is an elegant seaside town in East Wight with many Victorian and Georgian buildings, including a restored pier, and easy access to the rest of the Island. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. There are 6 miles of wonderful, sandy beaches together with a marina and children's play parks. The seafront is a gentle 5 minute stroll away.

utiful and unspoilt county and the Welsh Marches have stunning scenery, great food and lovely gardens.

Titley is a really special village with the nature reserve and walks on the Mortimer trail. The nature reserve and lake is tucked away behind the barn and is such a magical place - we have never seen anyone else there when we have visited so it's like having our own private reserve with unploughed meadows and rich birdlife and wild flowers

Why Christine Fisher and Terry Gladwin chose Isle of Wight

We have been visiting the Isle of Wight for several years for short breaks having really enjoyed the varied landscape and gentler pace of life. We find Island breaks a good stress-buster!

Ryde is a great base for all year round breaks. It is so convenient to access from the ferries (5-15 minutes) which is helpful if you have had a bit of a trek to get to the Island.

Ryde has plenty of facilities, wonderful beaches and everything you need for a relaxing break whether you want to eat out or cook at home.

What makes this house unique

We love the fact the house is near the centre of town and yet is so tranquil - just a few seagulls to wake up to in the morning and the beach just a stone's throw away from the house. The four-poster bed makes us feel spoilt - a little luxury is essential on holiday, isn't it?

We have furnished The Auction House to the standard of our own home rather than as a holiday let. We hope our guests will appreciate the extra touches we have put into the house.

Coast/Beach:

Ryde is renowned for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. The nearest beach is barely a 5 minute stroll from the house. It provides a great vantage point for watching the cruise ships and sailing boats in the Solent. We love to go paddling there at sunset! Ryde Pier, the longest in the country, has just been restored to its former glory. Our other favourite is Appley's golden beach, lined with trees and beach-huts, where you can watch the kite-surfers. There is also a busy marina.

Travel:

Southampton is the nearest airport on the mainland. The ferry from East Cowes (5 miles) connects with Southampton.

A car is not essential as the Portsmouth catamaran and hovercraft connect with Ryde Pier. It is a five minute walk to the house/two minute taxi ride. The island railway connects Ryde to the coastal resorts of Shanklin and Sandown. Buses are frequent to the capital Newport with ongoing connections to other parts of the island.

Distances:

Newport - 8 miles. Sandown - 4 miles. Shanklin-6 miles. Ventnor - 10 miles.

Cowes - 5 miles (by chain ferry). Osborne House, Queen Victoria's holiday residence - 6 miles. Carisbrooke Castle - 9 miles.

Further Details:

We love:- Havenstreet Steam Railway - 3 miles - travel the island by steam train hopping on and off at villages along the way; the privately owned Ryde cinema - tickets an unbelievable £2.50 - great if the weather is not so good;

walking the coastal path to the quaint village of Seaview - 2 miles - a stop at the trendy Boathouse Pub is recommended; going for cruises on the Solent to visit the historic boatyard at Portsmouth or to Southampton to see the cruise ships; just strolling around Ryde, admiring the lovely architecture and popping in favourite coffee shops. Ice rink, lawn bowling and bowling alley, waterside pool on the Esplanade - 300m.

There is a large Co-Op around the corner and a Tesco Extra on the outskirts of town. Don't miss the Saturday Farmers' Market for artisan breads, freshly-caught crab and lobster and organic produce from the Island. Ryde has plenty of chic shops, cafes and restaurants.

Notes on accommodation: Please note this is a no smoking property although smokers are welcome to smoke on the patios. We hope you will understand that ball games are not permitted in the courtyard out of respect for our neighbours. We regret we do not accept pets. Outside: There are two patio areas, one overlooking the communal courtyard and another more secluded area to the side of the house. Both are decorated with sun-loving plants such as olives and palms which thrive in the Island's sunny climate. Patio table, chairs and umbrella provided. The patios are the perfect spot for dining al fresco or a glass of wine at the end of the day. Between them they receive sun from breakfast through to dinner. There is parking for one car in the courtyard. Additional on-street parking and long-term car park available opposite the entrance. Short-stay car park 100m. Storage for bikes is available in outbuildings. Barbecue provided. Utility Room: Washer/dryer located in the kitchen. Ironing equipment provided. Please note outside drying is not permitted in order to preserve the ambiance in the courtyard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels included. (Please bring your own beach towels). Travel cot and high chair available. Housekeeping service weekly, prior to guests' arrival.

Nice property with all the amenities you need .

Lovely house neat and tidy in a quiet courtyard.Great base if you like the Ryde area. Our first time to IOW so perect spot to base ourselves but would say with children we were conscious about making noise in courtyard so kept them inside (am sure no one would have complained neighbours seemed lovely )

Found the double bed a bit uncomfortable as quite hard but that's just personal preference,the single beds the girls had were great.

Owners really helpful , bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival and everything you need is provided in house very thoughtful .

Very comfortable stay with everything we needed

We had a very pleasant week staying at The Auction House. The location is perfect as it's a short walk to the town and beach and it is easy to access other parts of the island. The decor and facilities are very good: everything we needed in the kitchen and a good power shower. It was clean and tidy with enough space for our things. We would certainly stay there again.

Always a great stay

We've been coming to the Auction House now for 5 years. We love its peace and quiet and the easy access to shops, restaurants etc. Our kids have effectively grown up there each summer!

Lovely Property, well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
