About Steph

We are an expanding family with 4 children and 5 grand children. Our French house is a lovely fully renovated farmhouse that is setup for either 2 or 12 in a totally rural area in Southern Brittany (fr7466),only 14k from the nearest beach. Wehave a design led apartment that can sleep 6 in Burgau,Western Algarve(P8558)minutes from the beach in a beautiful area for walking and beach holidays, suits 2 or 6. we ,normally,go away in the winter so both places are kitted out for living and entertaining. Our family visits both places all the time and I can really recommend both places with no reservations. Our large family house in Swanage sleeps6 in 3 bedrooms and then 4 more in attic.it's very relaxed, beach meets shabby chic.emphasis on shabby!lovely house even your dog(small) is welcome!

Steph purchased this house in 1980

Why Steph chose Purbeck

We were here as young teenagers and fell in love here!then we had a reality check and completed our training but our hearts were always here and we came back.

the whole areas just a joy to be in.We have just about every type of terrain that can be found in England!

Endless beaches, heathlands, chalk cliffs and stony, craggy cliffs, grassy downs, secret lakes full of birds and marshy beds in an RSPB protected site. Wonderful walks, cycling or just lazing at the beach hut.Sawnage has areal come again feel.we often meet people that came here on a geography field trip because of our designated Jurassic coast and just keep coming back.its the one phrase that repeats itself in practically every enquiry.if you haven't been ,listen to Chris Evans on the radio he's always singing Swanages praise!

What makes this house unique

On the level to the town centre of Swanage,so easily accessible without the car.Our local market is 3 minutes away on Tuesdays in the summer season.

We are 4minutes to the main beach and another 5minutes to the best part up past Ocean bay under the Grand Hotel,in front of the Grand Hotel This is a small safe area that is protected by a hidden reef that is exposed at very low tide, making the beach extra safe and avoids any jet skis or boats trying to land on the beach. We occasionally get the local Sea Rowing Club but that just adds to the lovely atmosphere on the little bit of heaven on a beach! A beach hut is available for you on your week(s)at an extra cost of £120 a week. Our hut is on this idyllic beach. It has no tea making facilities but the cafe is there for lunch.Dogs on leads here!

Notes on accommodation: Ideally suited for the three generation holiday. You will, certainly, feel home from home. We have one large bathroom . We do not suit large groups of adults sorry . Please note our house will be available for Christmas and /or New Year 2014. Outside: We have a large garden on three terraces. Its not steep just a few steps between areas, each level gets the sun at different times so pick your spot for breakfast lunch and dinner, alfresco dining. There is a gravel area right outside the kitchen where we have our breakfast and huge family meals in the summer months. The top terrace is just a complete sun trap. Sheltered area ideal for sunbathing or lazing on our double swing under the grapevine. Bliss! Our garden is a series of rooms with Purbeck stone walls and paving and large jungley type roses, jshrubs and fruit trees. We are inundated with birds and take pride in our bird families that regularly visit our garden! As mentioned before we have a net that we put across the lower level to keep our toddlers on the ground level. This way the older ones shoot up the garden and then we take the little ones up when we can supervise properly. Our garden works! We particularly enjoy going up to the top level and having cream tea! Utility Room: Washing machine upstairs by bathroom. Brabantia wall mounted clothes airer outside the kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels & linen are included. This is totally prepared for your visit. There's our family beach towels too, that to save your packing, we are happy for you to borrow, Just run them through the wash the day before you leave, put them back up in cupboard. Other: Lovely 100% cotton bedding and Egyptian cotton thick towels. The whole house has lovely original paintings from local artists. The garden is formed w/ separate rooms, a haven for kids to pay in. Note: all our bedrooms including attic have blackout blinds.

Large Victorian Villa. ideal location, perfect for a family holiday, well decorated and furnished

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from an amazing week at the above property with our 2 children, their partners and our 2 grandchildren. The house was well set up for our 3 month and 18 month old grandchildren complete with cots, high chairs, stair gates and loads of toys.

The house has been recently decorated, is comfortably and tastefully furnished and has a great garden. It is a 15 minute walk from the beach and town centre.

We also hired the owners beach hut (and contents) which was really useful for preparing lunch/coffees etc as well as for afternoon naps for the grandchildren. It also meant we had all the beach chairs, parasols, windbreaks and toys we could wish for !

The only drawback is that the house has just one bathroom (and an additional w/c downstairs) however we understand that the owners are planning to put on another bathroom in the next few months.

We will definitely consider returning to this property in the future.

Great week in a lovely home in sunny Swanage!

  • 4 of 5

This was our fourth visit to Swanage and we had a wonderful week in this delightful family home! The photos really do not do it justice! The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and complete with twinkly lights, the house felt very homely!

The location is excellent, just a 10 minute walk from both the beach and the town centre and 15 minutes from the delightful beach hut we rented along with the house.

The owner answered all our emails promptly prior to our visit, provided excellent information and could not have been more helpful.

Beautiful, spacious house in a brilliant location

  • 5 of 5

We loved the light airy space in the house, loads of room for our toddlers to run around and plenty of toys to play with. The older children loved having the attic to themselves! large kitchen with everything you could possibly need, huge table which was great and a Pretty garden out the back, with sun loungers at the top. It was definitely a home from home which we needed for our 2 year old twins and 2older siblings, perfect location just 5 minutes from the beach and town.

We loved staying here and hope to return next year. Steph is such a lovely lady to deal with and will go out of her way to accommodate your needs, thank you so much Steph, love from the Normans.x

A spacious family home just right for a seaside holiday

  • 5 of 5

I think the photographs might not do justice to this spacious and welcoming (Edwardian?) detached villa built out of the warm local red brick. It felt very spacious, accommodating six adults and two children without difficulty. The house is well maintained and situated in a quiet residential street within easy walking distance to the sea. There is a large paved terraced garden at the rear which is enclosed by trees and shrubs which gives a sense of privacy and is ideal for sun bathing or sitting out in the evenings. We didn't make use of the BBQ but maybe another time.

It would be difficult to fault the owner's consideration and easy going, unobtrusive assistance and we cannot think of anything for which we wanted. The kitchen and dining area was well equipped and clear instructions allowed those unfamiliar with an induction hob to quickly get the hang of it. Storage and fridge-freezer, large dining table etc. were as we would have like them to be, as was the feel of the house. The beds were comfortable and the three double bedrooms equally well appointed; interestingly no couple thought they had been given an inferior room.

Whilst aware that one bathroom might cause inconvenience for some, for us the presence of a downstairs loo relieved any potential tensions. In all we had a very good week by the sea with the children (who wanted to live there always). It was enhanced considerably by renting a beach hut. I would recommend it and am sure the owner would help on this or any other problem or need.

This probably sounds a bit rosy but for this family it was our kind of house and we simply took to it - which really is all I can honestly say!

Owner's Response: Lovely comments . Family Gardener . Thank you so much . You totally got what we are trying to do . Create a lovely relaxing family 'home from home' . So pleased you loved our house . We've had this house for forty years and brought up our four kids here . The beds are new and were brought in from Portugal as we have a property there and were so impressed with the mattress quality and style of headboards .The garden is great for relaxed dining on balmy summer evenings . So pleased you loved my beach hut . It's MY very special place but to let a lovely family like yourselves use and enjoy it has been heart warming . I could sell it and put in another bathroom in the house but I just love it too much . My garden is Secretive and jungly , I'm so pleased you enjoyed that too ! Lots of work to make it that relaxing !! Please come back .. We loved having you here ! Steph xx

Lovely comfortable house

  • 4 of 5

Lovely large comfortable house which suited our needs with 4 grandchildren aged 3-6 it was perfect, the girls loved the attic bedroom which was perfect for them to share as their own little space, which was also perfectly safe.

The listing was accurately described and just as we expected, the kitchen and dining area was very large and accommodated our mixed party with ease.

Steph was was very helpful and friendly.

Loved the garden and the loungers on the top patio, catching the late evening sun, it's location to the the town and beach was excellent, providing a lovely peaceful location, but within easy walking distance.

Fab Holiday

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week at the end of July 2014 and was really impressed by the size of the house inside and outside. We had a great holiday, the pictures don't do the house justice for the actual size.

We are a mixture of family and friends with children between the ages of 2 and 9. The bedroom sizes and lay out of the house was perfect for our holiday. The kitchen had everything you needed and the dining table inside and outside was great for holidays meals and big breakfasts.

The location is good and we had no issues with parking, which we have had issues before in Swanage, and was near enough for us to walk to the beach every day.

Steph the owner was helpful and any issues were sorted out straight away. The only thing I would change would be to install another bathroom upstairs, as for a large group we had to coordinate a lot for showers. However this would not put me off booking it again and we will definitely book it next time we go to Swanage.

Owner's Response: Disappointed only two stars as I DO STATE only one bathroom even though it is a big bathroom .,however your comments were lovely . We are installing a much larger tank so hot water shouldn't be an issue next year . We plough back all the revenue into the house as we do love our house . I just don't think we can get another bathroom built without spoiling the layout of the house . Will get an architect friend to look at this but for the financial outlay ....but we take heart that you loved the garden and general layout of our family home . Mustn't take it personally and we to try to take an understanding viewpoint when things are damaged or the inevitable accident. So hope this makes up for the bathroom shortfall . Will he lovely to see you next time you're in Swanage xxx Stephxx

600m to main beach of Swanage or just 6 minutes walk. We tend to go up to the extreme left on the beaches under hotels. The beach is lovely quality sand & the sea is shallow and safe for kids. The locals go that end, it's quieter and the couple of beach cafes cater for cream teas & as there is no road along this beach, your kids can play safely. There is a small reef here too which is great for low key snorkeling . Beach huts can be booked ? We really enjoy Studland too, through the year.

Swanage is served by National Express coaches daily and Bournemouth is accessible by bus too. You can park up and never touch your car just going to the beach but it's a wonderful area to explore with hidden tea rooms quirky pubs and quiet coves along the Jurassic coast. The Swanage Railway extends well past Corfe Castle so its good to get the train to Corfe and walk back. Also the Railway does specials like Thomas the Tank engine, you would need to check their website for these dates.

4 miles to Corfe castle 1110 year old royal stronghold, almost destroyed by Cromwell. 3 miles to worth Matravers and The Square and Compass don't miss the pumpkin or cider festival or Squarefair in the summer. Durlston castle totally refurbished on lottery money, a wonderful place all times of the year with Seventh Wave,a really good well priced restaurant, tell them you are at Steph's house for extra quality service! Bournemouth is just 9 miles away on the chain ferry or Poole is 18 miles away.

Further Details:

Dorchester has a wonderful county museum with lots of fossils. For rainy days there is a really good themed TutanKamun exhibition where my two nephews aged12 and 10 actually wanted to go through again they were so captivated by the display. There are Co-operative supermarket and Budgens in Swanage and both Tescos at Poole and Sainsburys at Wareham will deliver with an online order.

Durlston Castle up on the downs to the south of Swanage bay (Swanage faces east) is an award winning lottery funded refurbished Victorian castle/folly that has an amazing educational exhibition area and a really good restaurant Seventh Wave. Gets crowded day times and book for a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings in the summer in the evening. The pubs in Swanage all do pub food, basic but good value, some of the best are Red Lion and Anchorboth in the centre of Swanage. There’s a couple of fish and chip shops both best to eat there and then and we love sitting down at Gee Whites on the key and having tea and fresh crab. Watching the Carnival fireworks here on Saturdays throughout the summer Holst is a must! Swanage pier has also received lottery money and on the pier is one of the first diving schools in UK, with our perfect ly clear water its obvious why this area is full of divers through the spring and summer months.

The other end of the beach is Ocean Bay water sports which has a huge array of stuff for fun in the water. From kayaks to banana rides and jet skis. Whether you love them or hate them Charlie runs a tight ship and this is the area for that.

We have a good deli that will make you up hampers for the beach and this company also run the Worth Tea rooms, definitely worth a visit for the obligatory cream tea, with freshly made scones and clotted cream all served in mismatching tea services! The Canteen in the centre of Swanage is great, just opened in 2013 is rapidly ,deservedly, becoming the top place .

Nat west, Barclays and HSBC are here in Swanage with three ATM.
