House near Abriachan/Inverness, Nr. Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands - Isolated Yet Only 20 Minutes From Inverness City And 7 Minutes Drive From Loch Ness

This isolated Highland croft house set in nearly 6 acres of it’s own ground is situated just 3 miles away from Loch Ness. It is the highest traditional Croft in the immediate area at around 1000 feet above sea level. Access to Loch Ness (5 minutes), Inverness, Beauly and Drumnadrochit (20/25 minutes) and the rest of the Highlands. Picture windows offer wonderful views looking west towards the Glen Affric mountains, the Beauly valley and beyond. We are very child friendly as we ourselves use the house with our own 4 children to holiday and have done for years. The house is situated at the end of a half mile long track off a minor road. Totally isolated with no neighbouring properties.

About Aislinn Haszeldine

Hello everyone. My husband and I live in Central Scotland with our children. He is an academic (climate/energy scientist) at University and I am a nurse/mother/general sorter out of things. We have 4 children, one at University and three younger children who are still at school. Work commitments prevent us from living in the highlands but we have a beautiful cottage there which we have owned for over a decade. Two years we upgraded the property a bit and began to rent it out for others to enjoy as a holiday retreat. We found we were using it less frequently ourselves and hated the thought of it sitting empty so much of the time, so it is now all painted and preened and ready for visitors. I can honestly say that the cottage is one of my most favourite places in the entire world.

We love the area and were it not for the fact that work commitments keep us in central Scotland, we would live here. A beautiful part of the country. The things we looked for when seeking a property in the area were that it was isolated but not too remote, that it had incredible views, which it has, and that we fell in love with it the moment we first set eyes upon it, which we did.

What makes this cottage unique

Total peace and quiet but with ready access to Inverness within 20 minutes or so. Owl, deer, woodland, even lizards and slow worm have been spotted either at the house or in the grounds. It is a magical place and I love it beyond words. I'm sure you will too!

Notes on accommodation: Although the house is very child friendly as we have used it for 15 years now with our own children, I am aware that many people may like the house to be clutter free to enable a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Everything is neatly stored away neatly to facilitate this, however there are toys, games, etc. for every age. Outside: There are flower beds in front of the house, then a large gravel pathway to the side and front of house leading to the access track. Surrounding this is an expanse of grass around the main buildings and barns etc. Half an acre surrounding the house is deer fenced and once the gate is closed, dogs have the run of the place, however the remaining 5.5 acres attached to the property are longer grass and heather and can be accessed through several gates. There is a BBQ area and equipment. A climbing frame for the children. Swing ball etc. There is a hardwood table and 6 chairs with parasol. Several other wooden benches and seats are placed strategically at especially good view points around the garden. The track up to the house is a basic forestry track of around half a mile. A secret hideaway haven. Utility Room: The utility room (boot room) is a walk-in, large pantry set off from the kitchen/dining room. Lots of storage space for food, coats, bags, toys, shoes etc. Washing machine, vacuum cleaner, Iron and Ironing board. Brush, mop etc. for any spillages. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided free of charge. We do not provide a cleaning service but spare linen and towels are available for everyone. Other: The large carpeted dining room adjoining the kitchen is a spacious extra room with solid wood pine table and seating for 6. There is also a 2 seater sofa and shelving in this room storing dozens of books, videos and DVDs, Games, maps etc.

A character cottage in a stunning rural location. Great base to explore the Highlands

Rinuden provided a great base for exploring the Highlands. Despite the short drive from Inverness and Loch Ness, it provided a peaceful retreat and offered beautiful views in its isolated but accessible position. The accommodation was warm and comfortable, and we particularly enjoyed the open fire during the evening (unlimited wood was provided). The small kitchen was very well equipped, and having access to a washing machine was an added bonus. An old crofters cottage with great character which is highly recommended

Cozy and perfect for kids!

We had a fantastic time. The property suited us perfectly - the rooms are so cozy, the fireplace in the lounge is great, and the house is so well equipped for little ones - so many toys and games, children's crockery, lovely little cot for babies, trampoline with net and other play equipment in the garden. You're near to a great woodland park and although you feel so remote and secluded in the cottage, looking out at the lovely surroundings, Loch Ness and also Inverness city centre really is a short drive away.

The cottage owner was very kind and looked after us whenever we had a question. I can't reccommend this cottage enough, especially for families!

Tranquil, secluded, fantastically equipped, cosy retreat.

Rinuden feels amazingly remote yet it is only a 15 minute drive to Inverness, 'gateway to the Highlands'. It feels like a loved family home rather than a holiday cottage. We had a brilliant fortnight here & it was a wonderful base for exploring the hills, lochs & coastline (incredible beaches!).

The cottage is very comfortable for 4 adults and as already mentioned, equipped really well! It's great not having to buy things like washing up liquid, oil, cling film etc... Dog friendly with a large, secure garden although it is quite a tick hotspot so regular checks needed. There's a huge variety of toys for kids of all ages so I'm sure younger visitors would also love it.

We were very sorry to leave & plan to return in the future.

Super dog friendly cottage in a great location!

Everything you could possibly need is provided in this lovely little cottage. Great for children & dogs or simply getting away from it all in a beautiful location. The track leading to Rinuden is a bit daunting first time but you soon get used to it & it's well worth it. Great for spotting wildlife, deer often pass by the cottage at dusk, as a base for walking, it's by The Great Glen Way, or to drive to any of the many beautiful locations around Loch Ness. We visited Drumnadrochit, Abriachan Forest Trails (look out for the Eco Cafe if you walk there), Chanonry Point for dolphin spotting (amazing if you get there near high tide!), Rosemarkie with its dog friendly beach, Dog Falls at Glen Affric, Falls at Invermoriston & lovely little Fort Augustus on the Caledonian Canal where if you're lucky to you can watch as the locks are opened to let the boats through. It was wonderful to go back to the cosy cottage at the end of the day to wander or let the dogs play in the enclosed surrounding land then sit by a log fire in the evening. Aislinn is very informative & we can't thank her & her family enough for opening up their lovely holiday home to us, it really does feel like home too. Happy memories of a wonderful holiday.

Early summer holiday

The cottage was as described and more, if you require a relaxing hideaway this is the place

The cottage was clean ,tidy and was equipment with every possible item you might require.

The garden was ideal for our dogs as no worries about them wandering off so you could relax and let them explore

As far as the surrounding area great on your door step walks, we visited the Eco cafe unusual but very friendly and coffee great. The Abriachan forest trails are a great day out as was Great glen walk sections we completed,farther afield a must is glen Affric

Shop for provision we used the Tesco heading towards Dores as was normally on our way out or heading back to cottage.

The service from the owner was second to none both prior to our visit and during our stay, I would highly recommend this cottage as a hidden gem in the Highlands

Recommended cottage for humans and dogs!

Our family of 4 - plus our dog - thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It is well kitted out and there is a huge selection of games and films for entertainment. There is also a good sized, enclosed garden which was perfect for our dog. There is also a large trampoline, hammocks, swing ball and a BBQ in the garden, so perfect for sunny days.

The location is superb - on a hillside in a forested area - and there are fantastic views of sky and mountains from the cottage. It is very quiet and peaceful, but within a few miles of all the amenities in Inverness. The nearest restaurant is called Oakwood, and is about 7 miles away on the shores of Loch Ness. It is rated 2nd best out of 196 in Inverness-shire and is very reasonably priced - but you need to book.

We will definitely be returning, and I recommend this place for a relaxing holiday.
