About Harry Lindsay

The villa is owned by myself, my mother Paqui and my father Juan. We live in Iznajar now and farm the land around the villa as well as other land that we own nearby. The main of our work is in the olive groves but beside that we rear dogs, chickens, turkeys and pigs. My family have lived in the villa for many generations until recently. I have lived around Iznajar all my life and never tire of seeing the beautiful landscape that is constantly with me throughout my life and i would genuinely like you to share it with me, if only for a few days as i know you will treasure the photos you´ll take and the images in your mind for the rest of your life.

Juan Francisco.

Why Harry Lindsay chose La Subbetica

I really love this house and its location, i was born and brought up there as were my mother granddad and great granddad. Although it is slightly remote it is only 10 minutes by car from the main road that takes you to Rute and Lucena in one direction and Malaga in the other. There are many beautiful viewpoints overlooking the lake closeby where you can take memorable photos.

I have wonderful memories of playing in the surrounding countryside as a youngster. There are lots of tracks and paths to walk on,where you will see many birds and animals.

What makes this villa unique

Although the villa appears a little remote, it's only 10 minutes off the main road and less than 15 minutes from Iznajar with its castle, churches and many bars and restaurants and and of course its beautiful lake. There are many houses with swimming pools in the area but there are few with a pool like ours which is a genuine swimming pool (38 x 18 feet), but if you only want to frolic in the water you can do that as well as its depth varies from waist height to 2 1/2 metres at the deep end. We enjoy almost constant sunshine throughout the year (300 days per year).

Guestbook comments from the owner

"if you're looking for an authentic Spanish experience in a stunning location then this is the place for you. The house is situated amongst olive groves, just ten minutes drive from the beautiful Andalucian village of Iznajar. We stayed there with our children for a week recently and could easily have managed another week. Iznajar is perfectly situated for day trips to Granada, Cordoba and Malaga and manageable for Seville too. We found it difficult to drag The kids away from the beautiful swimming pool though, and spent several days in and around Iznajar enjoying the village and the lake.

The beds in bedrooms 1,2 and 4 are all antiques, the twin beds in bedroom 3 are more modern made of pine. In the main part of the house are the Lounge dinning room, kitchen and 2 double bedrooms, the house is L shaped with an internal patio inside the "L" with grape vines above, this leads to the 3rd double bedroom and the twin bedroom and the family bathroom. Outside: There is a small patio outside the main entrance with 2 large antique "botijas" which were used in the past to store wine, and on the wall of the patio is an old plough that we have restored and painted. There is a large pergola over the main entrancewith a table and chairs for you to relax. Outside the main entrance is the magnificent 36 x 18 feet private exclusive swimming pool, in one corner there is a large room which houses a purpose built barbecue, it can be used for changing etc as well, outside this room there is a shaded area with two white tables each with 4 chairs. There are also various sunbeds and beautiful rattan sunshades. There are pretty gardens at the side with rosas etc and stunning views of the olive groves and surrounding countryside. At the rear of the house there is a really pretty patio with many flowering plants shrubs surrounding it and a grapevine spreading above. Utility Room: There is a utility room off the rear pario with a new automatic washing machine that is available to guests. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Please contact owner. Other: There is a large "lock up" room by swimming pool with a fridge/freezer. You can utilize this room to store everything you need for the pool, to change etc, there is also a barbecue built in with chimney with a supply of olive wood to barbecue with.

A wonderful family holiday retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best family holidays we have been on in years! A perfect rural location but with easy access to the stunning Lake Iznajar for kayaking and boat hire and Granada is just under an hour away.

The house itself is is very well maintained and equipped to a high standard. The beds were very comfortable and the three bathrooms worked perfectly. There is everything you would need from towels and bed linen to can openers and guide books.

The house has a beautiful private courtyard out the back with grape vines and stunning flowers, we were able to pick fresh grapes for breakfast.

Around the house there are lemon, lime, pomegranate and fig trees overflowing with fruit which we were able to pick fresh each day.

The owners were absolutely lovely and family friend Harry did a fantastic job of translating for us. If we had any questions, Harry was only a phone call away.

I took three teenagers on holiday and they absolutely loved the private pool, it is set apart from the house itself which is ideal, it also has its own pool changing room, shower room and fridge freezer, not to mention a beautiful wood burning oven, perfect for our barbecues.

We were able to hike up into the olive groves and the views were absolutely stunning.

This is one villa holiday I would recommend to anyone!

Iznajar itself is a traditional whitewashed Spanish town set high on the hills, it has two supermarkets and a fantastic Moorish fort and is easily accessible by car or on foot.

Overall I would rate this property as outstanding, it had everything we were looking for and more. I wish we could have stayed for a month and will certainly be booking again for next year.

Fantastic Rural Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house is very well appointed and has the feel of a family home.Well positioned for visits to Cordoba and Granada and into the Subettica Park.Loads of space to relax within the house and down at the pool with evening barbecues.Harry was a great contact to oversee the booking process. Iznajar provides a good focus for a local taste of Spain with amenities.

Rural Spain...peace and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

What a find this peaceful, scenic "casa" turned out to be. Situated about 15 minutes away on the hills overlooking Iznajar and its reservoir, the self contained farmhouse was ideal for the hot Spanish days and tranquil evenings. The 4 bedrooms-separated into 2 blocks of 2 were spacious and well appointed. We slept in the main house and when our son joined us for the second week he had his own annexe, which was ideal.

The pool area was large and safe,by normal rental standards and having fresh limes, lemons and peaches available was great. The bbq was the largest I've ever used and belted the heat out...not that we needed it.

Juan and his family were around- but not intrusive- occasionally to tend the chickens etc. and my wife was able to practice her Spanish with the family, despite this part of Spain speaking at 100 miles an hour!!

You must have a car and Granada , Malaga and Cordoba are all within driving distance. The village of Iznajar is typically Spanish with little tourist evidence. It has several restaurants, bars and shops with little going on between 2 and 8 most days. It's a long slog up to the imposing church on the hill but worth the effort.

If you want a quiet out of the way spot this is it. No neighbours, traffic noise or night lights...you feel really out in the country.Ideal for a family group, the pool is large and safe for toddlers etc.

We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Peaceful retreat

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday here. The house was very clean and adequately equipped. The layout is quirky with two bedrooms accessible from the courtyard and the location is off the beaten track but this adds to the experience. The pool is fabulous and the pool house with its eating area and barbecue is really great and was a joy to use. Mobile phone reception is variable. the property was ideally located for trips to Granada, Seville and Cordoba. The owners are great and Harry, their English friend was very helpful and available. I would definitely recommend this property and we had a fabulous time
