This is our 1st stay at b Cottage, although it's easy to see why so many people return. We picked "b" as our mini honeymoon retreat following our wedding over Easter weekend and honestly couldn't be more thrilled with it. Rothbury is a wonderful little place and the cottage was pretty much exactly what we were after!

Gem of a Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Very well appointed and relaxing cottage in a prime location. The bed was very comfortable with quality linen. Excellent bathroom. Very nice welcome tray which was both delicious and useful. Rothbury is a beautiful place in a spectacular location. Shops and eating places within walking distance if required. Parked outside without any problems, Would not hesitate to stay again.

Little Gem!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have just returned from a week's stay at B Cottage and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Communication with the owner was easy and efficient. The cottage is quaint and beautifully presented with your every need catered for. The owner has thought of everything right down to sumptuous bathrobes, complimentary slippers and a very generous welcome pack. The cottage is in a lovely village - Rothbury - with beautiful walks direct from the door. There is a good choice of eateries and pubs on the doorstep too. We found the locals whom we met in shops etc and whilst out walking very friendly and helpful. A stay in B Cottage is something everyone should experience. Thank you to the owner.

A wonderful weekend

  • 5 of 5

We loved b Cottage - and are already planning a return visit. The cottage is a lovely blend of traditional and contemporary and was spotlessly clean. The decor is tasteful and fresh, with one of the prettiest bathrooms we've ever seen! And the welcome pack was a very thoughtful bonus. The cottage location, in the attractive small riverside town of Rothbury, is the perfect base to explore the area. We visited the marvellous Alnwick Garden, Holy Island, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh castles, and Craster (where we bought fantastic crab and kippers!). Coming back to the home comforts of b Cottage each evening was a real treat - so much nicer than returning to a b and b or hotel room. We will be back ....

A place to hiberanate

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at b cottage mid-way through an incredibly busy December. The cottage was perfect for us; a huge amount of consideration has gone into the decoration and design and as such we felt at home straight away. We spent the weekend unwinding and relaxing in the lovely warmth of the cottage - only leaving to wander around the gorgeous town. We left feeling rested and wanting to return to the cottage again....we will certainly be back.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newcastle Airport at 25 Miles Nearest Barpub : at 50 Metres Nearest Golf : Rothbury at 0.7 Miles Nearest Train : Morpeth at 15 Miles Nearest Beach : Alnmouth at 15 Miles Car: recommended

The village of Rothbury offers an excellent range of shops, with many art galleries, tea rooms, cafes and pubs, all within walking distance of b Cottage. There is also a lovely Italian restaurant, again within walking distance.

Rothbury also has an award-winning selection of local, independent shops where you can buy practically everything. There's the fantastic Rothbury Family Butchers, Rothbury Bakery and Greenwell Bakery, a deli called Tully's of Rothbury, Rothbury Wines and many more.

There is also a Co-op Foodstores located on the High Street, as well as a Boots. Again, all are within walking distance of b Cottage.

Rothbury has many local events, including the Rothbury Walking Festival in June and the extremely popular Rothbury Traditional Music Festival in July.

Cragside House with its acres of stunning grounds, lakes and fascinating history and the first house to be powered by hydro-electricity is a must see and only a few minutes drive away from b Cottage.

Northumberland's Heritage Coast, with its long stretches of sandy beaches, fascinating medieval castles and quaint working fishing villages, is 25 minutes away. Boat trips from Seahouses (in season) visit the bird and seal colonies of the Farne Islands and a trip to the very special Holy Island of Lindisfarne, only reached by a causeway when the tide is out, is a must when staying in the area.

Kielder Water and Forest Park, Engalnd's last remaining wilderness, with numerous outdoor activities available, is less than an hour's drive away. This, along with Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society and the Northumberland National Park have officially been awarded 'Dark Sky Status' by the International Dark Skies Association - the leading international organisation combating light pollution worldwide to become Europe's largest Dark Sky Park.

Billions of shimmering stars making up our Milky Way, a plethora of planets, dazzling meteor showers and the glow of galaxies like Andromeda - the dark skies of Northumberland as seen on Robson Green's Tales from Northumberland are home to star gazing opportunities that are out of this world.

Around 85% of the UK population has never seen a truly dark sky. So for an astronomic experience that won’t cost the universe head to Northumberland for unrivalled stargazing. The best time for stargazing is during the autumn and winter months, when the nights draw in. You don’t need an expensive telescope. Just pack up a pair of binoculars, a deckchair, take a hot drink and bite to eat and head for rural Northumberland for a star-studded show.

One of Northumberland's favourite tourism attractions Kielder Observatory has an exciting programme of astronomical events throughout the year - Northumberland Dark Sky Events.

Hadrian's Wall, a World Heritage Site is within an hours drive and is a fascinating place to visit. Walk the wall and visit one of the Roman museums that bring history to life.

The market town of Alnwick (25 minutes by car), famed for Alnwick Castle, featured in the Harry Potter films, and Alnwick Garden, with its contemporary water gardens and tree house restaurant, makes a great day out. Alnwick's famous Barter Books is also well worth a visit.

The shops and nightlife of Newcastle and Gateshead can be reached easily within 45 minutes.
