Cala Torret - Quiet, peaceful location, short walk from beach, harbour, restaurants and shop.
There are two floors. The daytime accommodation is on the upper floor, where there is a spacious dining and lounge area, kitchen and balcony with sea view. The lower floor has three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower, and a balcony which is a delightful sun-trap. The second bedroom has twin beds and the third bedroom has bunk beds. There is also a separate bathroom with shower. Supermarket and restaurants are about 2 minutes walk away. Beach is 10 minutes walk away and can be seen from the balcony.
Our property is situated in the village of Cala Torret, near Binibeca (sometimes spelt Binibequer). The village itself is a well designed "pueblo" set along pedestrian ways and has been designed to accommodate local people and holidaymakers of all nationalities. It has become popular with British people both as permanent residents and holiday makers. The effect is unique and the village is considered to be one of the holiday gems of Menorca.
It lies on an interesting piece of coastline. There is rock bathing along the front of the village itself and only a quarter of a mile away lies the delightful bay and beautifully sandy Binibeca Beach, providing sheltered and safe bathing.
There are many attractive villas on the slopes around the village, but there are no hotels or other high rise blocks to spoil the character of the area.
Binibeca Beach is within 10 minutes walk from the apartment. It is a delightfully small, soft sanded beach in a sheltered cove with a normally, beautifully clear and gentle sea. There is a bar at the beach and accompanying toilet facilties. In the summer season small boats can be hired on the beach. For those who like snorkling, the water is superb, you may prefer to dive in off the nearby rocks or from the little harbour which is even nearer the apartment. There is a diving centre here and a bar where you can get food and drink.
If you have hired a car, there are many other beaches around the island which you may like to try. Some beach mats are available in the apartment.
Please feel free to use these, but please replace them if they are damaged in any way. There are also various beach items in the apartment (second bedroom cupboard) which you may use. Again please leave them for other guests.
Although Cala Torret has everything you are likely to need, you may feel the desire to see something of the rest of the island.
1. HIRE A CAR. Roads are generally free of congestion.
If you wish to hire a car, the best way is to arrange it before you go.
We recommend Autos Amigos, telephone: 00 34 971 377 290 or email: email@example.com You can hire the car for a few days or your total stay. The car can be available for you from the airport if you request it.
If you are not hiring a car, there are plenty of taxis at the airport to deliver you to the apartment. Simply ask the driver to take you to Cala Torret.
You can book a return taxi at the Redorka Information Office (see below).
PLEASE NOTE that taxis only carry 4 passengers.
3. PUBLIC TRANSPORT
A bus service operates from Cala Torret to Mahon via Sant Lluis three times daily during the season, i.e. May to October.
This is useful, and cheap if you want to go into Mahon for sightseeing, shopping or the market which is there on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
However, be aware that the last bus back from Mahon leaves at 5.30pm. You are advised to check the times at the Information Office before you travel as they may vary from year to year.
The bus stop is adjacent to the office.
4. HIRE A BIKE
There are many cycle routes around the island and bikes can be hired through the Information Office.
5. There is a LAND TRAIN which runs in the busiest part of the season between Binibeca Vell, Cala Torret and Punta Prima.
A small supermarket can be found in Cala Torret itself. This is open during the season, May to October, and provides most of what you are likely to need in the way of food, drink and other day to day items. Larger supermarkets with a more varied range of foodstuffs at prices aimed at the local population rather than holidaymakers can be found at:
Suestra, which is on the road to Mahon, before you get to Sant Lluis and on the main road from Sant Lluis to Mahon. There are also Spa shops in Binibeca, Sant Lluis and Punta Prima. There is also a branch of Lydl which is on the Airport road out of Mahon.
There are many other and varied shops in Mahon itself.
Also try the market in Mahon, open Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
For buying things in bulk, such as wine etc. to take home, try the warehouse style hypermarkets which can be found just off the road from Mahon to the airport
You don't need to eat in the apartment at all, if you don't wish to cook. There are some excellent restaurants in Cala torret itself. These include Pedro's, a select eating establishment with a superb range of culinary delights.
Nearby is Na Rosa, a wine and cheese bar for lighter meals.
Pedro's bar is also available for those who like a drink or two.
There is also a small cafe, by Na Rosa, which opens in the mornings for coffee and snacks and has tables set out in the square. Internet access is also available here – just request the password.
If you care to venture into Mahon in the evening, you can find a whole range of restaurants, including French, Greek and Italian as well as Spanish along the
harbour front. Also there are a variety of restaurants in Sant Lluis and Punta Prima.
This can be found on the way from the apartment to the beach, about 2-3 minutes walk from the apartment. The staff will tell you anything you need to know. English is always spoken. Most important of all, they will change your TRAVELLERS' CHEQUES or currency, which can save you a journey into Mahon. However, remember to take your passport with you if you are going for this purpose.
Note that the Information Office is only open during the season, i.e. May to October.
Telephone boxes can be found in the main square, near the wine bar, and also outside the Information Office.
Postage stamps for cards can be bought at the Information Office and in the supermarket.
The KITCHEN has been re-fitted with new appliances and worktops.
A gas hob is installed, supplied by bottled gas. If the gas runs out, simply connect the spare cylinder and then tell the Information Office and they will send a replacement. The oven is electric.
A fridge/freezer and microwave are also available and all kitchen utensils, crockery, glassware and cutlery are supplied.
Please turn the fridge temperature down to zero the day /morning before you leave. Then dry out the freezer compartment and leave the door open with a tea towel in it. This allows the freezer to be ready for the next occupants. Thank you.
The tap water is clean and drinkable. An electric kettle is available for boiling water
for tea, coffee etc. Water heating for showers etc and for use in the sink is by electricity. There are separate heaters for each floor. The switch for the downstairs
heater is in the en-suite bathroom.
Please ensure that you turn this heater off before you leave the apartment.
CLEANING AND LINEN ARRANGEMENTS
Linen and towels are changed for your arrival. If you require the linen and towels to be changed during your stay please notify the owners before you leave for your holiday. After your departure home the linen and towels will be changed ready for our next guests.
The apartment will be cleaned for your arrival and after you leave.
There is a small safe in the kitchen. This can be used with 2 AA batteries.
You will need to provide your own batteries.
You can then set your own 4 digit code. Instructions for this are inside the safe.
Please remember to take the batteries out and LEAVE THE SAFE DOOR OPEN at the end of your holiday.
IF THINGS GO WRONG!
Very occasionally something will go wrong. If it does, don't worry. Simply go down to the Information Office and tell them the problem and they will arrange to have it put right.
If there is a power failure, candles can be found in the kitchen drawer to the right of the hob. Please replace these for future guests if you use them.
LEAVING THE APARTMENT
When leaving the apartment during the day please ensure that you lock the balcony doors and the front door and take your key with you. If you close the balcony shutters as well, it will help to keep the apartment cool during the midday heat.
When leaving at the end of your holiday, please leave the apartment as you found it, clean, tidy and ready for our next guests.

About the Owner
I am retired, married and living in Birmingham.
My wife and I have owned the apartment in Cala Torret since 1993.
Renting of the property is not a business. it is merely a way of helping to cover the costs of running and maintaining it. The apartment has been much improved in 2010 and 2011 with new, modern windows and doors, a larger upper balcony, and a completely refitted kitchen with new appliances and worktops. The 2nd and 3rd bedroom beds were replaced in early 2011, with the double bed in the master bedroom having been replaced a few years earlier.

A "home from home" property - cosy, comfortable with well equipped kitchen and lots of books and games. Superb sea views from upper balcony. Close to restaurants, supermarket and beach. Suspect it could be a bit noisy in the evenings in high season but great in September!
4 based on 1 holidaymaker reviews
We have stayed here a couple of times and absolutely love it. The apartment has everything you need for a holiday, and is close to a bakery, restaurants and the beach. The smell of freshly baked croissants fills the air each morning! The sea view is great. The apartment is spacious.
From the Owner
“We already knew and loved this area as a holiday destination, having regularly rented a friend's apartment in the same location. When the property we now own appeared on the market, it was an opportunity too good to miss. Menorca as a whole is a beautiful island, both on the coast and inland where there are some very interesting places and lovely walks. We both love it and would never tire of returning.”
Activity and Interests
The nearest airport is Mahon which is 12km away. Ferries to the mainland also go from Mahon. A bus service operates to Mahon from 1st May to end of October. It runs 3 times per day in each direction, picking up and setting down by the Information Office and is very reliable. There is a road train which runs along the coast from Binibequer, via Cala Torret to Punta Prima.
Mahon is 12km away, Sant Lluis about 7km and Punta Prima is 5km.
Within a short walk of the apartment there is a small supermarket, a wine and cheese bar, bakery/coffee shop and 5 restaurants. The nearest bank is in Sant Lluis, about 7 km away, others in Mahon, 12 km away. There is a cash machine at Binibequer, 20 minutes stroll away.
ROUTE FROM AIRPORT TO APARTMENT
At end of Airport access road, there is a roundabout - TURN RIGHT here for MAO or MAHON (alternative spellings).
At the second roundabout, TURN RIGHT again for SANT LLUIS. This is a dual-carriageway. Follow signs for SANT LLUIS.
Bear right at the next roundabout, still following Sant Lluis. Continue ahead at the next roundabout and then right again at the next for Sant Lluis.
Pass a large supermarket (Eroski) on your left, continue ahead at roundabout, then at the next as you approach Sant Lluis itself, take the second exit (left) on to a dual carriageway with speed bumps (there is a BP filling station on your right just past the roundabout).
On to the next roundabout, second exit (continue ahead) and follow signposts for Binibeca (Binibequer).
Road soon bends sharp right.
At 2nd junction, TURN LEFT for BINIBECA, Follow this fairly winding, but good, country road to a roundabout. Here TURN LEFT again for CALA TORRET, and follow road to next Roundabout - TURN LEFT and follow road to village.
You will pass the Redorka Information Office on your right. Take 2nd right and Park where you can.
Walk up short flight of steps on your left and walk along passageway until you find Apartment 30A on your right.
Go up the steps. Our apartment is the door on your left.

From the Owner
“The apartment has the advantage (rare in this location) of two floors with a sea view from the upper, larger of the two balconies. This is perfect for relaxation without the need to leave the apartment if a rest from the beach and sight-seeing is needed. Also nearby restaurants are just a few minutes walk away as is the local small supermarket. Also nearby at the harbour is Cala Torret diving school for those interested in this activity.”
