Kotor is number ONE on Lonely Planet's list of best cities in the world to travel to in 2016. See the video, photographs and narratives on https://www.lonelyplanet.com/best-in-travel/cities/1 .
The apartment is located in a traditional Venetian style stone 'palata' or 'palace', one of several historic listed buildings built by wealthy sea merchants along the coast of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kotor Bay. Situated on the third storey (2nd floor) of the four-storey Palata Milosevic, it has a particularly impressive panoramic outlook over Kotor Bay from the living room balcony. The apartment has been renovated and has a modern kitchen and bathroom but retains features such as original doors, high beamed ceilings and exposed stonework. All rooms are spacious but the living room, kitchen/diner and main bedroom are particularly large. There is air-conditioning in the living room and wifi throughout. All windows have scenic views of the sea or surrounding mountains. The apartment is ideal for two adult couples that enjoy plenty of space or a family with up to 3 or 4 children. A local, English speaking, property management agent provides support services.
A terraced garden is available for relaxing outside. The garden is split level with entrance from the sea-road through the main gate into the lower garden then stairs up to the terrace and house entrance. Garden table, chairs, umbrella and sun-loungers are available for relaxing on the terrace or by the sea on the 'punta' (small jetty) opposite the main gate.
Numerous small beaches, jetties, old stone houses, shops, café-bars and restaurants line the picturesque waterfront in both directions. A 25 minute scenic stroll will take you to Kotor and its walled medieval Old Town - a pedestrianised maze of narrow streets, squares, café-bars, boutiques, restaurants, clubs, churches and museums.
Free-of-charge off-road public parking is available in front of and close to the apartment building. A shop in the building adjacent to the apartment sells drinks of all kinds. The nearest restaurant, Ellas, is excellent and 5 minutes walk on the sea-road towards Kotor; the nearest supermarket, Aroma, is a further 3 minutes then immediately on the left at the road junction. A&E hospital/pharmacy is a half kilometer along the main road behind the Palata towards Kotor and there is a taxi rank just beyond. For banks and ATMs, go to Kotor Old Town. There is a Tourist Information Centre in front of the main entrance to the Old Town.

About the Owner

Palatial - but not for old folks!
The owner, John, was very helpful and prompt in his dealings with us and the apartment was as spacious and airy as anyone could wish, with glorious views over the bay to the mountains (and amazing, front row seats to watch the huge liners going to and fro). He is an absentee landlord, and we felt the agents were not as careful in looking after the place/clients as the owner would be. One main drawback for us (72- and 77-years old) were the more than 60 steps from the road to the flat. A great place, but not for oldies!
Kotor at its best
This apartment is a great base from which to explore Kotor, being only a few minutes away from the old town. It is in a stylish older building that has been beautifully renovated. The spacious lounge has a balcony giving a lovely view over the water. The master bedroom is similarly spacious and delightfully airy. The kitchen is just as spacious and is very well appointed, providing a full range of cooking equipment. The owner has provided an excellent and comprehensive information pack, and the agent is very helpful. There are a number of restaurants within easy access. Our favourite was 'Portun'. Montenegro is a unique and interesting country and this apartment provides a calm retreat from which you can explore places such as Kotor itself, Porto Montenegro and Budva.
Large apartment with a "million dollars view"
We had a wonderfull time in this superb appartment. We were very pleased by the largness of the 2 main rooms and the great balcony where we stayed long houres just watching the changes of colors of the see and the mountains. The views from all windows were outstanding. To stay in this historical and typical was a nice feeling. We enjoyed as well the modern kitchen and bathroom. We had superbs journey around Kotor cruising along the borders of Kotor's bay and more. The drive to Citinje was also a fantastic moment. Kotor itself is lovely, as is Perast and the drive round the lake affords wonderful views. For our first trip in Montenegro, this apartment was a must and it is perfect for a couple as we were. We had a very relaxed holidays and people were very friendly. The local agent was very kind and accommodating. All our exchanges with the owner were always precise, helpfull and friendly. A place we will definitly recommand to our friends.
Exceptional apartment with wonderful views
Description of the apartment was very accurate, the main rooms are extremely large and full of character with 2ft thick walls and some original features, yet with a modern kitchen and bathroom. The views from all windows are outstanding and sitting in front of the little balcony was not only restful but there was so much happening on the inlet in front of the property we spent many happy hours there (mostly with superb Montenegran red wine in hand!). Would not have liked to have shared with another couple as there would have been fights as to who had those exclusive seats! The 25min slow stroll to Kotor was delightful and the restaurants/bars on the way are very good value. We particularly liked Cafe del Mar. Kotor itself is lovely, as is Perast and the drive round the lake affords wonderful views - would recommend the ferry across to Porto Montenegro to do the round trip. The loud music from the Marina Club spoilt the peace somewhat but was only late afternoon/early evening. All in all a very relaxed holiday, superb apartment and location and very friendly people. The owner was very helpful especially with advice on driving, and the local agent more than accommodating when we arrived late.
Lovely apartment with gorgeous views
Helpful and prompt communication with the owner, John. We had a query while we were in the apartment which was dealt with very quickly by the local agents.
Everything was as described in the apartment. It is very spacious and well equipped and in a lovely old building.
You can swim right outside the door which I did every morning. There are lots of other little swimming spots along the bay.
It's quite a walk to Kotor (maybe 30 mins with a small child) but there are restaurants on the way. We liked Cafe Del Mar about 10 mins walk towards Kotor.
We found it pretty easy to get round the bay. There's a bus that runs hourly and costs approx 1 euro to go to Perast which is a lovely place to spend some time.
We had a great very reasonably priced day long boat trip with "tourist boat budvanka / korda travel". the boat moors at Dobrota.
Only minor irritation was loud music from local beach bars, but this always finished early evening.
My husband and I and two teenage girls stayed for a week at Palata Milosevic. The flat itself is lovely - big and airy and well appointed. The views are stupendous! I couldn't get enough of them and spent hours just watching the boats. The girls enjoyed their swim each day and promenading at night along with all the other beautiful people! Kotor we found rather touristy and, as the girls said, all the gift shops were the same. But other half and I enjoyed the many churches and views. We were stunned by the number of cruise ships coming in and out and were pleased to be further along the bay so we didn't see too much of them. We had an excellent two hour trip round the bay, found via the tourist information place, for 60 Euros, cheaper than those that advertise their wares along the front. Perast lovely - worth visiting if only for a good lunch on the front with a view of the little islands. We didn't particularly enjoy the men who seemed to gather by 'our' front door every day with crates of beer and I think the girls found them a little disconcerting but they weren't there all the time fortunately. Otherwise our only complaint would be that it was too hot!! But serve us right for going in August. The sea was beautifully warm and we were grateful both for that and for the air conditioning. Ellas restaurant - excellent and large portions.
Activity and Interests
The Montenegro coastline is mainly rocky although there are several sandy beaches within travelling distance by car. Small, fine gravel beaches are spread along the Dobrota waterfront as are puntas that are used for sunbathing, diving and fishing. Almost all of these are available for public use including the punta opposite the apartment building. The sea is clear, clean and virtually wave-free providing superb swimming for all ages. Boat hire, water sports and excursions are available locally.
Special interest holidays:
Montenegro is a paradise for hill walkers and cyclists of all abilities. Walkers can climb one of the ancient marked paths up to the tops of local mountains or drive to convenient starting points. Difficulty ratings for walks range from a doddle to knee-trembling; the reward is some seriously spectacular views. The most popular climb is to the fort above the Old Town. Lake Skadar in the south is a vast, beautiful nature reserve of special interest to bird watchers. Inland, Tara Canyon, the second deepest in the world after America's Grand Canyon, offers white water rafting and bungee jumping. Lake Skadar and Tara Canyon are both UNESCO World Heritage sites, as is Kotor Bay itself. The national park ski resorts of Kolasin and Zabljak are also worth a visit, summer or winter.
Dubrovnik airport (Cilipi) 1 hour 30 minute drive (including customs, but allow extra time for customs during peak holiday periods).
Podgorica airport 2 hour drive. Tivat airport 15 minute drive.
Car hire or taxi transfer is recommended; owner can recommend local companies on request.
Kotor and its fortified Venetian style Old Town is a 25 minute scenic stroll from the apartment. Perast, 15 minute drive, is considered a must-see historic gem amongst the Bay's coastal towns. Tivat, also 15 minutes, is home to Porto Montenegro, the new marina village complex for super-yachts. Budva, 35 minute drive, is the country's largest holiday town and has its own well preserved walled Old Town. Just beyond is the island village/hotel of Sveti Stefan, favoured by the rich and famous. The scenic serpentine road from Kotor over the mountains leads to the ancient capital, Cetinje, 1 hour 30 minute drive, or to the Mausoleum on the summit of Mount Lovcen, 1 hour 10 minutes.
