Unique Location

  • 5 of 5

Very unique location. Lucia was very helpful and was really lovely to deal with.

We enjoyed her recommendations of the boat trip on the lake and hike to the mountain refuge.

The apartment is very clean and well maintained. We used it as a base for days out and hiking. We would return and recomend it to others.

We stayed in portico apartment for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. Lucia the owner was very warm and helpful. She always had a bunch of tips for us and loads of leaflets about all sort of activities in the area. I would go back there anytime with no hesitation. Very good experience

beautiful breglia

  • 5 of 5

we have had the most wonderful trip to lake como, with added joy of staying in lucias tower. it suited us to a tee as we love walking/hikeing and didnt want the bars as we were content to cook and eat in although we did eat in the only hotel on our first and last night. the apartment had all that we needed was beautifully clean and none fussy, and i believe we had the best view of the lake as we were so high. highly recomended if you want to walk down taking in villages you would not otherwise get to see and going to the top well worth the effort.

A storybook holiday!

  • 5 of 5

My female cousin and I stayed in the Portico apartment for 2 nights at the beginning of a 9 day journey across the Alps. The charm and natural beauty of this village was the absolute highlight of our trip, and the Portico apartment at the mid-level of a medieval tower was like a step backwards into a time we modern people can only dream about!

The apartment is a stunning example of medieval architecture, and it offers every modern convenience one could possibly need. It is spotlessly clean, too! Lucia, the property owner/manager, is without question the most gracious and kind hostess I could have ever imagined or hoped for. It may not be well advertised, but she is a well educated historian about the area, and the depth of her knowledge is fascinating! The stories she had to offer about the village, the lake, and the surrounding community left me wanting much, much more. Two nights simply wasn't enough! I could stay there a month and still look forward to the next day. It is an amazing place to visit!

Besides the village itself, the walking in the area must easily rate amongst the most breathtaking and awe inspiring sights throughout the entire world! My cousin and I hiked to Rifugio Menaggio, about 90 minutes up the mountain from the Portico apartment and Breglia village. Our hike was knee deep in snow for about 2/3 of the climb and descent, but the effort was worth 8 hours of climbing! If the view overlooking Lake Como from Rifugio Menaggio doesn't make a person believe in God, then nothing will. Only He could have created such an unbelievable setting! And the food up there wasn't half bad either. Bring some Euros so you can have some lunch and sit on the porch gazing at the mountainous lake view.

I am not a person who generally visits the same place twice, but I am going to try my best to return to Breglia again some day, not only to stay in the Portico apartment, but also to listen to Lucia's stories and hike many, many more miles. This is a five star destination for anyone seeking a unique experience that no hotel or country club could ever match!

The only caution would be there is a moderately inclined walk (3-5 minutes) to reach the apartment from the parking area. It is not easily handicap accessible, unfortunately. And the only thing I didn't like about the apartment was the small shower, but after staying in several European hotels during my brief adventure, that seems to be normal. What can I say, I'm a spoiled American!

Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place! We were looking for a holiday to get away from busy life and relax together. Lucia was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The Portico was very peaceful and tucked away in Breglia, which was a quiet little village with stunning views. Just thinking about it makes us want to go back now! It was great to be able to cook in the Portico and there was enough space for the two of us. It was also great to enjoy quiet walks in the countryside, accessible from Breglia. The whole area of Como was stunning and we were lost for words - which is impressive for me. You will need a car though (we hired one at the airport). There is plenty to do around the lake - Lucia will let you know all the options! It took us 15 minutes to drive down to Menaggio, and 25 minutes back up! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

From the Owner

The village is like a nest in the woods of the mountains of the lake, where to enjoy beautiful walks between woods with fantastic views. An oasis of peace just few minutes drive from the busiest and most famous places around the lake. Good bus services connect Breglia with Menaggio ( from 7am to 6pm, not on Sunday), and the local restaurant has excellent meals with little expense. On Sundays and public holidays, when the lake villages are busy with tourists from the city, is great to enjoy the peace here, walking among the fresh woods and going for an easy stroll to the white church that overlooks the lake with an extraordinary view. In this small village people are friendly, you can feel the atmosphere of yesteryear Italy.

From the Owner

The tower is in the oldest part of the village, its walls have a thousand years, the facade reveal ancient stone windows, next there was a monastery of monks (15th century). Walking through the village you will discover picturesque corners of old, like the old stone fountains, where the water is still good to drink. Behind the tower we got a terrace above a stone building, on disposal for the apartment 'Torre'; for its flooring we used the stones that covered the old roof of the tower. In the bedroom of 'Torre' we kept the original wooden beams of the 16th century. In the apartment 'Portico' is visible a big beam done with a chestnut tree, and a narrow passage which communicated with the surrounding buildings, now used for storage. In both apartments there is a modern fireplace.
