Updated: 16-Oct-2016
Apartments in a medieval tower, peaceful location, perfectly positioned to enjoy Italian Lakes

Quaint and cozy apartments in the Breglia's medieval tower, situated in the ancient part of the village, peaceful because only pedestrian. If you want to immerse yourself in Italian culture, to find the Italy of the olden days, this is the place to do it: peaceful, comfortable base to explore the area, Breglia (medieval village in the municipality of Plesio, over Menaggio) is not affected by tourism but at few minutes from the most famous lake places. The village offers beautiful views, green woods for a refreshingly peaceful and restorative stay, perfect for keen walkers: from Breglia start numerous hiking for all levels of difficulty. Some routes slide into the woods and reach old lake villages, others rising on mountain above the town, with stunning views of Lake Como, Lake Lugano and the Alps. In the apartment you will find all sorts of information for the discovery of our territory: maps, guides, tips, planning and rates for unforgettable cruises on the lake. I am on your disposal to suggest you the best to visit, such as planning a day cruise to visit the most famous villages of the lake.

About the Owner

Breglia was the land of my grand-parents, I live on the other side of the lake but often we enjoy to come back here in Breglia for holidays or just for a short day-beak looking for peace and nature.

I really love my land and its history: lake Como is rich in art, history and nature! I wish my guests discover as much as possible of the beauties of my land: I prepare in the apartments many information, maps, brochures. If you want any tips, itineraries adapted to your wishes write me and I help you to find them.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Lucia was a wonderful host. All our emails were answered quickly and correspondence with her was easy and very helpful.

Even though we arrived early Lucia was there to greet us and show us around her beautiful medieval tower, including giving us maps, brochures and ideas on where to visit and what to do.

Lucia has a wealth of knowledge of the area and this really helps to immerse yourself in the history and experience of staying in this stunningly beautiful part of the world.

We chose to stay in Breglia a 15 minute drive up from Menaggio as we wanted to spend the majority of our time hiking and this was the perfect place to do it, the views and hiking trails are well worth the visit.

The apartment is exactly as described and is even better than the photos show, it was very clean and well organised.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends." K.H.

The owner of this cosy apartament is a lovely, young Italian lady, who is friendly and speaks good English. She knows a lot about local tourist attractions and can provide you with a wealth of information and handy tips.

As for the apartment, it’s a romantic flat with a fireplace and huge comfy bed. The flat is located in a medieval tower in a cosy town away from the hustle and bustle of the busy lake side.

We chose this place because it’s located between the lake and mountains within easy reach of everything we wanted (trekking and swimming etc.) There’s also lots of useful maps, brochures and guide books in the flat.

We highly recommend this tower to everyone and will definitely stay here again when we return to Italy." K&A

"We had a lovely stay, although brief, in La Torre as we were on our way to another destination. The apartment was basic, clean, and well-equipped. The location is wonderful... The views are spectacular. We loved our time in Breglia/Menaggio/Como and intend to return to La Torre in the future." Mrs L.C.

"This place is absolutely super for someone who’s looking for peace and quiet holidays away from all the noise of the everyday life. We were amazed by the friendliness and hospitality of the owner and her total support in every aspect of our stay. The apartment is nicely located ,very clean and quiet, the village is very nice and the people show their complete hospitality on every occasion. It was the best holiday stay I have ever had!" Medieval bliss in a beautiful village.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week in the tower. Breglia is a stunning location high above the tourist town of Menaggio on Lake Como - You will require your own transport to stay in this village but its well worth the effort and you will be rewarded with comfortable accommodation and a very warm welcome from Lucia. Some great relatively easy walking can be enjoyed locally with the best views in the area or if you wish take a boat ride to some of the more main stream tourist areas on Como. You are close to the Swiss border and if your up for a drive check out the Splugen Pass which is stunning and return via San Bernardino Pass. If your happy to shop locally for supplies in Menaggio the tower has a well equipped kitchen. Great week away, nice location, good fun and a big thanks once again to Lucia. Hope to visit again in the future. Oh one last thing don't miss the chance to walk to Rifugio Menaggio it's well worth a few hours during your stay.

Lovely little apartment in stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

Breglia is set in beautiful scenery in the hilltops overlooking Lake Como, with a stunning vista across the lake to Bellagio just 15/20 minutes walk through the woods from the village. The tower apartment has everything you need and Lucia is very friendly and welcoming with a wealth of advice and tips.

We had a lovely holiday there and would recommend it without hesitation.

Apartment Torre, Breglia, Lake Como

  • 4 of 5

The property was just what we wanted. Small but not cramped, with all the facilities including a log fire and very good wifi set in the most charming little village high up in the hills. You reach the tower up genuinely mediaeval alleyways.

Break in the lakes

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful holiday in this small house in this tranquil village away from the madding crowd below. All the big attractions of Como and the surrounding area were easily accessible, but we could return to the tranquility of the house each evening and spend a long evening on the balcony and watch the stars before bed.

As a tall man there are a few challenges to negotiate upstairs as there is limited headroom, but no problems really. Everything you need is there and the house is very easy to use.

Lucia was an excellent guide to the area. Lake cruising and hill climbing making two fantastic days out from the recommendations given.

Our romantic Italian home in Breglia

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our stay in la Torre, Breglia. This apartment is a unique mixture of old and new: the 12th century medieval tower in the oldest part of the village + the comfort of a very well-equiped and maintained apartment.

And Lucia, the owner was so friendly and helpful in every respect. She gave us so much information about what to do around Lake Como and provided us with so many travel guides, maps and leaflets that we did not need to visit any information office during our holiday.

Just go and see for yourself. Highly recommendable!

From the Owner

The village is like a nest in the woods of the mountains of the lake, where to enjoy beautiful walks between woods with fantastic views. An oasis of peace just few minutes drive from the busiest and most famous places around the lake. Good bus services connect Breglia with Menaggio ( from 7am to 6pm, not on Sunday), and the local restaurant has excellent meals with little expense. On Sundays and public holidays, when the lake villages are busy with tourists from the city, is great to enjoy the peace here, walking among the fresh woods and going for an easy stroll to the white church that overlooks the lake with an extraordinary view. In this small village people are friendly, you can feel the atmosphere of yesteryear Italy.

From the Owner

The tower is in the oldest part of the village, its walls have a thousand years, the facade reveal ancient stone windows, next there was a monastery of monks (15th century). Walking through the village you will discover picturesque corners of old, like the old stone fountains, where the water is still good to drink. Behind the tower we got a terrace above a stone building, on disposal for the apartment 'Torre'; for its flooring we used the stones that covered the old roof of the tower. In the bedroom of 'Torre' we kept the original wooden beams of the 16th century. In the apartment 'Portico' is visible a big beam done with a chestnut tree, and a narrow passage which communicated with the surrounding buildings, now used for storage. In both apartments there is a modern fireplace.
