Rural Retreat with 7 en-suite bedrooms, ideal for a "get away from it all" restful holiday

A beautifully restored 400+ year-old Andalucian farm house in a quiet rural location near Coín, Malaga, offering spacious comfortable accommodation in a unique setting. The 7 en-suite bedrooms can sleep up to 15 people, the converted barn and farmyard provide plenty of living space for a large family or group, and the swimming pool in its own enclosed garden is a wonderful space to relax and soak up the sun. The rural hamlet of Carranque is in an area of outstanding natural beauty close to the Sierra Las Nieves natural park, ideal for walkers bird-watchers and nature-lovers. The local town of Coin offers all the facilities a visitor would need from supermarkets and boutiques to bars and restaurants. It is also well placed for touring Southern Andalucia, with historical cities of Ronda, Antequera, Granada and Cordoba all within reach.

Please note: This house is available for self-catering holiday rentals during the summer holidays only. At other times we run as a Retreat House for people wanting a restful holiday or spiritual retreat. About Angela Tomlins

We came to Spain from London on an exploratory tour and fell in love with Cortijo Carranque on our first visit. We arrived here in January 2007, and have worked ever since on a project of restoration and modernisation. Our vision for the place is as a "Haven" for stressed and weary people. A place where you can come and be rested and refreshed, both physically and spiritually. There is something special about this place, everyone comments on the atmosphere of deep peace here. We didn't create it, it was here already, waiting for us to come and make it available to others. We hope you enjoy it, and will be as blessed here as we have been. Why Angela Tomlins chose Guadalhorce (Costa del Sol)

We chose this area because this River Valley is exceptionally beautiful, and reminded us of Devon with mountains! It is genuinely rural without being isolated, being in a small farming hamlet. And then the house itself just had a wonderful welcoming feel - it seemed to be calling to us! We also like the town of Coin because it is a genuine Spanish working town rather than just a tourist resort.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Being over 400 years old, this property is truly unique. Wherever possible we have tried to retain and enhance the original features. The kitchen/diner barn conversion, the Moorish-style cloisters, the original stone-work features in some of the bedrooms, all combine to make it special. But the thing that most visitors comment on is the wonderful atmosphere of peace and timelessness.

Cortijo Carranque is a lovingly restored 400-year-old manor house in rolling countryside near Málaga. All was clean, comfortable and flexible, and the range of catering facilities meant we could eat together or be independent. The unusual pool in its lovely garden was well used but most memorable was the wonderfully peaceful Moorish-style "cloister". The house is available for self-catering holiday lets during JULY and AUGUST only. At other times we run as a Retreat house offering restful holidays and retreats for individuals and couples on a B&B or full/half board basis.
