A beautifully restored 400 year-old Andalucian farm house in a quiet rural location nr Coín, Malaga, offering modern, comfortable accommodation in a unique setting. B&B half/full board or self-catering for 1 to 15 people, its an ideal venue for individuals or groups looking to "get away from it all" for a quiet restful break. With lovely barn conversion, arched cloisters, large unusual swimming pool, and surrounding gardens and orchards, there is plenty of space both inside and outside, for young and old alike to relax and unwind. Your hosts, Martin and Angela offer a warm hospitable welcome that makes you feel part of the family. The rural hamlet of Carranque is in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Sierra Las Nieves natural park, ideal for walkers and nature-lovers. The local town of Coin offers all the facilities a visitor would need from supermarkets and boutiques to bars and restaurants. It is also well placed for touring Southern Andalucia, with historical cities of Ronda, Antequera, Granada and Cordoba all within reach.

The self-contained guest-wing consists of 6/7 en-suite bedrooms converted from the old stable-yard, and arranged around a courtyard garden, the 7th being a sitting room with double sofa-bed. Meals are taken in the converted barn "La Granja", or on one of the outside patios. For those who are self-catering there is a fully equipped guest kitchen, and also an outdoor dining terrace with BBQ and kitchenette. Guests also have access to laundry facilities. For small children cots or folding beds and high chairs can be provided, and there are various toys and games, puzzles and books for all ages.

About the Owner

We came to Spain from London on an exploratory tour and fell in love with Cortijo Carranque on our first visit. We arrived here in January 2007, and have worked ever since on a project of restoration and modernisation. Our vision for the place is as a "Haven" for stressed and weary people. A place where you can come and be rested and refreshed, both physically and spiritually. There is something special about this place, everyone comments on the atmosphere of deep peace here. We didn't create it, it was here already, waiting for us to come and make it what it is now. We hope you enjoy it, and will be as blessed here as we have been. Cortijo Carranque is a lovingly restored 400-year-old manor house in rolling countryside near Málaga. All was clean, comfortable and flexible, and the range of catering facilities meant we could eat together or be independent. The unusual pool in its lovely garden was well used but most memorable was the wonderfully peaceful Moorish-style "cloister". We chose this area because this River Valley is exceptionally beautiful, and reminded us of Devon with mountains! It is genuinely rural without being isolated, being in a small farming hamlet. The local town of Coín has all that is necessary for comfortable living, and is well placed for touring the area, whether you are looking for coastal resorts such as Marbella, or mountain cities like Ronda.

Walking and Painting holidays can be provided by arrangement. We have also partnered with nearby Natural Horsemanship Centre of Coin, for horsemanship training holidays.

Coast/Beach:

Marbella and the Costa del Sol resorts are about 45 minutes drive away.

Travel:

Malaga airport is 45 minutes by car. Car hs recommended as there is no public transport nearby. However airport transfers are available by arrangement, and visitors are welcome to hitch a lift when there is a car going into Coín.

Distances:

Coín 7km. Marbella 35km. Malaga 45km. Ronda 55km.

Further Details:

The house is available for self-catering holiday lets during July and August when the owners are on holiday.

Being over 400 years old, this property is truly unique. Wherever possible we have tried to retain and enhance the original features. The kitchen/diner barn conversion, the Moorish-style cloisters, the original stone-work features in some of the bedrooms, all combine to make it special. But the thing that most visitors comment on is the wonderful atmosphere of peace and timelessness.
