Beach House sits 100m from the Blue Flag beach in Porthtowan, a small seaside village with a stunning 1 mile sandy beach, framed by National Trust protected coastline and served by RNLI Lifeguards. Learn to surf at the legendary Tris Surf or enjoy the thrill of nature lying down on a foam body board. On the beach is the 'Blue Bar', a Good Pub Guide pub with great food, and Chapel Porth National Trust cafe, home of the world famous HedgeHog ice cream. Walkers take the South West coastal path from the gate through the UNESCO World Heritage North Cornwall coastline. For cyclists: take an 11 mile coast-to-coast cycle route along old railway lines and one of the best BMX facilities in the UK is nearby. Great location for all of Cornwall, only 5 minutes from the A30. 20 minutes to Truro, 30 minutes to Newquay, Falmouth and St Ives. St Michaels Mount, Padstow, Lands End and The Eden Project are within in a 45 minute radius.
We are a family with Cornish roots who love Porthtowan. We bought the Beach Cottage for the stunning views over the beach and coastline beyond. We furnished the house to a high standard with 1 to 2 families in mind, so you can have a relaxing holiday in Cornwall.
Mark purchased this house in 2011
The North Cornwall Coast is simply stunning, crossing the River Tamar from England lifts the spirit and you know you are in a special place. Porthtowan is a hidden gem of a beach, though its place in the development of surfing in the UK has increased its popularity. With over a mile of sand you will always have plenty of space even in highest summer.
We dreamed of a home with a sea view and Beach House has just that. No driving to the car park, just walk down and back at your leisure. Of course Cornwall has many other attractions and Porthtowan is centrally located for most of them.
For the second year running we had a fantastic visit, for any large family this is such a wonderful Beach House and the views and short walk to the beautiful beach make it so worth the money, the house is comfortable with everything you can think of to make your visit perfect, the lounge was so comfortable with wood burning fire, widescreen tv with surround stereo system, locally the Blue bar was very welcoming sitting direct on the beach and the local Victory Inn just does the best Sunday roast, disappointing to see the Unicorn shut down and was excellent on last years visit, we will definitely be booking again !
The house was in a great position over looking the sea
fantastic views
Every thing you could want and more was included in the house.
We had a great family weekend would definately recommend
We all enjoyed a fantastic week in this gorgeous property! Obviously a lot of time, effort and money has been spent with top quality rooms, furnishings and just about everything else!
It is in just the most amazing position, with stunning views over Porthtowan bay.
You do get used to the steps! And it is great to be able to walk to the beach, surf/board and then just walk back again and use the outside shower!
The upper garden and fire pit are the icing on the cake. If the weather is good and you have a nice glass of wine, just enjoy a stunning evening watching the sun setting. A special holiday indeed.
Many thanks Mark for lettting us share your very special holiday home.
The Beach House is a stunningly appointed spacious property, perched on the hill side, a stones throw from Porthtowan Beach. It's reached by a few steps, but they are quite shallow and therefore easy to climb.
The wide decking area in front of the house is equipped with a large outdoor table and chairs and offers a great view of the beach. It's a great place to have a BBQ and sit and relax with a drink. It's well fenced making it very child friendly too.
The house itself is spotlessly clean, airy and spacious, with modern bathrooms and good showers. Beds were comfortable and we slept like babies with the sound of the waves from the beach. The kitchen is very well equipped and we wanted for nothing during our stay.
There is a grass area and a fantastic secluded fire pit behind the house that offers even more space.
There is a well stocked local shop, a fish and chip shop and cafes/pubs/bars nearby on the beach.
The owners comprehensive A-Z guide for the property was great, and lists recommendations for places to eat/go as well as any instructions you may need for the property.
We had a fantastic week, we popped into the Blue Bar (which was great) a couple of times, and walked miles of the coast path which is 100m away from your front door.
Booked Beach House 6 months ago so we could share time and good company with family and friends while celebrating my wife's 60th birthday. It met all expectations and all communication with Mark, the owner was helpful from day one. Great location with terrific views, well appointed, functional social areas for a big group, with separate good bedroom areas too if you wanted your own space. It was warm even when we didn't light the excellent wood burner. We enjoyed some great walks on the beach and cliffs to east and west. Nearby pub, local shop and beach bar very friendly. Fascinating local industrial/mining history. Surf great all week. Lots of steps up to the property help you keep fit!
Had our first family Christmas here altogether 9 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs, was worried it might be a bit overcrowded but it was definitely not - it was perfect. The house is beautiful and spacious even had a real tree there for us. A big dining table that fitted us all around and had all the cutlery and cooking utensils needed to make a beautiful xmas dinner and in the evening the big corner sofa had enough space for us all to sit around together.
The area is lovely with a beautiful beach, pub and playground close by although due to cold weather could not make the most of it.
All queries I had were answered quickly and had excellent communication with the owner Mark - thank you. Definitely be booking to come back in the summer.
