About the property

Beach House in Porthtowan, Truro, Cornwall, England - 100m from Blue Flag National Trust Porthtowan surfing beach on World Heritage North Cornwall Coast

Beach House sits 100m from the Blue Flag beach in Porthtowan, a small seaside village with a stunning 1 mile sandy beach, framed by National Trust protected coastline and served by RNLI Lifeguards. Learn to surf at the legendary Tris Surf or enjoy the thrill of nature lying down on a foam body board. On the beach is the 'Blue Bar', a Good Pub Guide pub with great food, and Chapel Porth National Trust cafe, home of the world famous HedgeHog ice cream. Walkers take the South West coastal path from the gate through the UNESCO World Heritage North Cornwall coastline. For cyclists: take an 11 mile coast-to-coast cycle route along old railway lines and one of the best BMX facilities in the UK is nearby. Great location for all of Cornwall, only 5 minutes from the A30. 20 minutes to Truro, 30 minutes to Newquay, Falmouth and St Ives. St Michaels Mount, Padstow, Lands End and The Eden Project are within in a 45 minute radius.

About Mark

We are a family with Cornish roots who love Porthtowan. We bought the Beach Cottage for the stunning views over the beach and coastline beyond. We furnished the house to a high standard with 1 to 2 families in mind, so you can have a relaxing holiday in Cornwall.

Mark purchased this house in 2011

Why Mark chose Truro & Falmouth area

The North Cornwall Coast is simply stunning, crossing the River Tamar from England lifts the spirit and you know you are in a special place. Porthtowan is a hidden gem of a beach, though its place in the development of surfing in the UK has increased its popularity. With over a mile of sand you will always have plenty of space even in highest summer.

We dreamed of a home with a sea view and Beach House has just that. No driving to the car park, just walk down and back at your leisure. Of course Cornwall has many other attractions and Porthtowan is centrally located for most of them.

Birthday celebrations

  • 5 of 5

Booked Beach House 6 months ago so we could share time and good company with family and friends while celebrating my wife's 60th birthday. It met all expectations and all communication with Mark, the owner was helpful from day one. Great location with terrific views, well appointed, functional social areas for a big group, with separate good bedroom areas too if you wanted your own space. It was warm even when we didn't light the excellent wood burner. We enjoyed some great walks on the beach and cliffs to east and west. Nearby pub, local shop and beach bar very friendly. Fascinating local industrial/mining history. Surf great all week. Lots of steps up to the property help you keep fit!

Best Family Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Had our first family Christmas here altogether 9 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs, was worried it might be a bit overcrowded but it was definitely not - it was perfect. The house is beautiful and spacious even had a real tree there for us. A big dining table that fitted us all around and had all the cutlery and cooking utensils needed to make a beautiful xmas dinner and in the evening the big corner sofa had enough space for us all to sit around together.

The area is lovely with a beautiful beach, pub and playground close by although due to cold weather could not make the most of it.

All queries I had were answered quickly and had excellent communication with the owner Mark - thank you. Definitely be booking to come back in the summer.

great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic well equipped house ,with fantastic views. Never felt on top of one another. Top Garden has a great seating area with a fantastic fire pit.

The only negative is there are 73 steps up to the property and as we were a bunch of oldies, some found this a bit of a problem.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We have just had a wonderful week staying at this beautiful beach house. It really does feel like a home from home accommodation.

We went to celebrate my husbands birthday with our three daughters and their partners my granddaughter and the dogs.

The location is superb so close to so many beautiful beaches, sitting on the terrace looking on to Porthtowan beach watching the surfers is great, and we have seen some of the most amazing sunsets, the unicorn pub and the blue bar are so close and very friendly.

There are a lot of steps up to the house which at first we thought might be a problem but you soon get used to them and worth every step for the wonderful views.

The only down side is we only went for one week could of stayed much longer

The perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic choice of property for our annual weekend break with my parents, my wife, children and my brother and his family. With 5 children and a baby the house is an important choice and this was ideal - with amazing sea views from the balcony (or large windows when the weather wasn't so kind), nicely decorated rooms, a generous kitchen, and a TV that the children thought was amazing!

People should note that there are 70 steps up from the car parking spaces to the house - but this was not a problem for our party and they are not steep steps.

All in all, we all agree that a weekend was not long enough - definitely one to earmark for a longer return visit.

Cornish Christmas!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, spacious, very thoughtfully furnished cottage complete with Christmas tree and lights. It was very comfortable for the large family party of ten that we were and Christmas lunch went without a hitch due to the amazing kitchen. Carols at Truro Cathedral and the fabulous Christmas light show at Mousehole are a must as are fabulous walks along the coastal path that runs right past the door. The beach was a short, easy walk away and within 5 minutes from the house you have the stunning Blue beach bar and restaurant and a very friendly village shop for groceries, toiletries etc. I loved dealing with the owners who answered all my questions straight away and were very helpful. Would we go back? Yes, please.
