Guestbook comments from the owner

I spent the second week of July 2010 at the Chateau d’Hortes, together with my family; my husband and our two girls aged around 7. For me, it’s the perfect combination and has everything one could wish for.

The Chateau has lots of French country charm inside. It is well equipped the beds are comfortable and if you need to do some work, the wireless LAN worked very well But the best is maybe the huge terrace that overlooks the large and well-kept garden – perfect for meals and a glass of rosé. The pool area is secluded and the kids loved it (there’s space also for some beach tennis or the like). But the wide and white beach at Cap d’Agde is only a 10-15 minute drive away and there are beach cafés for relaxed lunches there. Mme Seguin is also the perfect host and very discreet, but she is glad to help or outing tips if you like. I, my family and our friends will come back to Hortes this summer again, this time for two weeks!Åsa Landén Ericsson, Stockholm May 2011

Fantastic Place !!!

  • 5 of 5

I feel ambivalent writing this, as I don't want anyone else to know about it, so we can have it to ourselves :-D

The Chateau d'Hortes is a fantastic house. It is genuine and original in it's interiour and the pictures doesn't lie - it actually looks this fantastic.

We felt like nobility having our breakfasts, lunches and dinners on the terrasse in front of our very "own" chateau. Mdm de Seguin was really pleasant and helpful. The pool area is situated a bit from the house, which works great. You have the whole pool area nearby, without having to have the kids splashing around right in front of the house.

The surrounding area is great and full of opportunities. We went to Cap d'agde and rented a boat, we went to the market in Bassens, which is really a true experience, and we visited wine farmers in the area. There are plenty of stuff to do, but we really didn't want to use too much of our precious time away, as staying in the house was fantastic in it self. We were two families totalling four adults, two teenagers, a pre-teenager and two seven year-olds, and everyone had a great stay. I really hope we can come back one day.

This place is so much value for money compared to an apartment on Corsica or by the Cote d'Azur.

Best regards from family Boesen, Denmark.

Beautiful chateau and wonderful hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Thanks as always to Marie-Sophie for making our 6th stay at the beautiful Chateau d'hortes just as magical as always. This was the 5th consecutive year my family, friends and I have returned to Hortes. We now consider it our summer home and return every year...sometime we visit twice a year!!

I thoroughly recommend a 2 week stay, or more, here to all. The chateau, grounds and pool are beautifully private, clean and make for a relaxed, fun and authentic French holiday experience. The decor of the chateau is classical ancestral home beauty but with the majority of modern conveniences.

Its a great base to explore the Langedouc region if you can tease yourself away from the tranquility of the chateau. From the little village of Bessan which is a 5 min walk from Hortes, the arts and crafts town of Pezenas, Cap d'age beach, beautiful harbour of Marsellian, magical hill top beauty of St Guilem le desert and Caves and so much more. Also worth asking Marie-Sophie if she can arrange private wine (and champagne!) tasting on the terrace from the ever knowledgable and friendly chaps from La Cave in Pezenas. Just make sure you plan a late start the next day.

We plan to return again next year.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Chateau D'Hortes is truly a wonderful place to spend the holidays. Everything in the chateau is authentic and takes you back to earlier times, though incredibly clean and well kept. The owners couldn't be more helpful! Would definitely recommend and look forward to another holiday at le Chateau!

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a find! A must! Put it on your bucket list! We have stayed in 2015 and 2016.

As soon as the gates open to the chateau you feel like the lord & lady of the manor. As you drive around the corner and set eyes on the house you can't fail to be wowed.Staying here is like staying in a National Trust property with all of the elegance of it's classic furniture & decor but with the addition of modern essentials such as WIFI, TV, stereo, dishwasher, coffee machine & microwave! The ample grounds are classically landscaped & through an almost secret gate to the side of the house you'll find the private pool in it's well manicured walled garden.

Your English speaking host, the lovely Marie-Sophie will make you feel most welcome and is always contactable to help with anything you're unsure of. The house has been in her family for generations and yet for the duration of your stay she makes you feel as if it is yours. If you will be arriving after the shops have closed, Marie-Sophie will kindly arrange the shopping for your evening and breakfast, or book a restaurant locally on your behalf.

There are lots of useful little things that make your stay easier, such as the foot pump for your pool inflatables, badmington, petanque & table tennis to occupy the kids (& bar b que & washing machine) .

The bakery is a 10min walk in the morning, for fresh bread & croissants. The supermarket, Intermarche Bessan, is a 10 min drive. The lovely village of Pezenas is nearby & has a huge market and interesting unique shops off the main street. Carcasonne or Montpellier are a little over an hour away. Nimes, the french Rome, with it's arena (similar to the colosseum), is about an hour & fourty mins.

We have stayed in 2015 and 2016, flying into both Beziers, 30mins away, and Toulousse, 2hrs away. Go with family/friends. It's well worth the money. Heaps of holiday for your £.

Fantastic chateau in Southern France

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house for a perfect summer! We have been here 3 times, and would love to come back. Private pool, large bedrooms and bathrooms, all you need for your stay. The house is super nicely maintained and the owner is always available if there should be anything. It is quite close to a small village with all you need, also nice restauarants and the ocean and beaches are 10 minutes away in car.

Perfect for family with children, group of friends etc.

Spacious and elegant 19th century home

  • 4 of 5

We had a comfortable week in this spacious chateau. Mme de Seguin had thought of everything, even fresh flowers; she lives next door and was very helpful. The pool area is reached through a shrubbery and is delightful, as is the heated pool water. It is a pleasant walk to a restaurant in the small town of Bessan. I recommend it for a taste of 19th century living with modern comforts.
