Hey! You’ve made it to The Summit House! (PSST - this cabin is my personal favorite of the four on our mountain! Ashley - Property Manager) Here you can escape the crowds and relax in this 1,100 square foot cabin, situated on the summit of a ridge line, deep in the US National Forest. There are breathtaking views of the the lake and mountains from every single room, including the shower in the bathroom! At night, the skies are great for stargazing and counting the shooting stars. 💫 Sounds awesome, right? But, please read the description in its entirety to ensure this special and unique place is for you!

Because of its location, not only will you avoid extra town taxes and fees upon booking, but The Summit House also provides an incredible retreat from hustle and bustle of the big city. You get the best of both worlds! Gorgeous views bring relaxation from the spacious King master bedroom as well as the second Queen bedroom. The large, open living/dining area offers a space for quality time with friends and family while enjoying a fresh beverage. A beautiful bar off the kitchen will seat five where you can enjoy a meal cooked in the all stainless steel kitchen or the outdoor propane grill. If you prefer meals outside, there will be furniture on on the 2-level deck so you can take in the views. There is something to do for everyone from the adventurous hiker to the avid bird watcher or even the bookworm. Come relax at The Summit House for your next getaway!

The Summit House is entirely off-grid. We produce our own power, water (well), hot water and have our own septic system. We are 100% green and still have all the luxuries of home! Because we are green; however, we do have to choose which luxuries we would like to have. In our efforts to conserve energy, we have decided to opt out of bath and hot tubs in all of our mountain cabins. We also have have a filter, but the well water has iron in it, so please bring bottled water if this makes you uncomfortable.

○ Bedroom 1: King master bedroom with sliding door leading to deck
○ Bedroom 2: Queen bedroom on opposite side of master with a Twin futon located outside the bedroom
○ Bathroom 1: Full bathroom with walk-in shower

🚨 We realize that this is where most like to stop reading, but we ask that you please scroll a little more to review the important information for the drive in and more! 🚨

✨ DRIVE IN / ACCESS ✨
The mountain cabins sit 5 miles off of Highway 259 and is accessed by US Forest Service roads. It’s a beautiful drive and we oftentimes see white tail deer, turkey, and birds of prey including red tail hawks and various owls!

You will need a vehicle with some clearance as well as a bit of driving skill to make it in. 4WD and/or AWD is NOT necessary, but helpful.

→ We strongly suggest:
○ a small, medium or large SUV
○ any size truck
○ a crossover
→ We strongly advise against:
○ a minivan
○ a sedan or coupe

The first 2 miles of the drive are easy and you can drive 25 mph. The remaining 3 miles are slower and requires some attention. You will cross 4 or 5 small creeks on the way in. Water is rarely more than 4 inches deep. The roads are rocky and bumpy, but will not ever be muddy.

There are also grades up to 12% on gravel roads. This means you will travel up the mountain until you have reached our mountain top.

Don't have a vehicle that meets the requirements, but still want to visit? We have partnered with Marc at Red Dirt Car Service and have several happy guests that have already used this transportation service! Please send an inquiry for more information.

✨ TECHNOLOGY & CELL SERVICE ✨
The Summit House now has Starlink and there is cell phone service! Verizon and AT&T work best, while Sprint and T-Mobile are limited. There are no TVs or cable. You will need to bring your own entertainment and pre-download your movies on your own device before arriving.
Bear Creek Vacations is not responsible for reliability of internet or outages from service provider. WiFi is provided as a convenience only and is not integral to the use the property. No refund of payments shall be given for outages, content, lack of content, speed, access problems, lack of knowledge of use or personal preference regarding services.

✨ BOATS, TRAILERS & ATVs, oh my! ✨
→ Boats & Trailers: Please do not try to bring a boat up to any of our cabins on the mountain! You will likely regret it, we promise! 😉 All jokes aside, Beavers Bend Marina has slips that you can rent for your stay and it’s super convenient to leave your boat in the water. They can also provide a place to leave your trailer!
→ ATVs: You can ride straight into the Ouachita National Forest from our property! Please check with the US Forest Service for all laws regarding ATV riding. It’s possible for a group of riders to rack up several thousand dollars in fines.

Bear Creek Vacations will not be held responsible for any tickets, violations or accidents.

✨ GRILL & FIRE ✨
The grill is propane and directly wired into the house. Instead of a propane tank, you will see a timer. There is a fire pit. Please bring matches. Our cleaning service no longer provides firewood.

✨ MAX OCCUPANCY ✨
The Summit House sleeps 5. Due to fire marshal regulations and insurance purposes, the number of guests per cabin is strictly enforced. Additionally, our off-grid systems cannot sustain more than the max number of guests.

✨ PUP-FRIENDLY ✨
Maximum of 2 dogs allowed. No cats. Pet Fee: $150 per stay. Please review house rules and pet policy prior to bringing your pets to avoid additional charges.

House was nice. View was amazing
Arrived after dark-very scary, bumpy road. Relied on odometer readings to get us to the house. We had 2 small dogs and there really wasn’t an area for them to go potty. Sharp rocks hurt their paws. Our favorite time was sunrise. The views were amazing. Disappointed with the grill-was dirty and flakes off the inside lid fell on our food. I used foil on the grill for our food.

Eclipse Adventure
We had a memorable weeklong stay at the Summit with our 1.5 and 3.5 year old during the eclipse. The view is truly stunning, and the campfire is placed perfectly for s’mores every night. The cabin was just the right size for us…comfy mattress, soft throw blankets, well-equipped kitchen. We were a little concerned about the ride up and down the mountain, but it was actually really fun for our 3 year old, and we went into town almost every day. We did need 4-wheel drive in one stretch going up. In town, we absolutely loved the Hochatown Rescue Center (went multiple times), and we also did the mining and sand art (in the same complex as the HRC), Beavers Bend State Park, and the wildlife safari. All super fun. The weather was sunny for the first 5 days and cloudy/rainy for the end, but we had fun every day. There was a storm one morning that was so intense…deck chairs flying around, but it was cozy in the cabin, and was followed by blue skies. No issues with the off grid aspect…the generator kicked on a few times for a bit when it was cloudy…otherwise we wouldn’t have noticed anything.

So serene
The views were amazing and the environment is relaxing! I highly recommend. The drive up the mountain to the home felt like an adventure. Spent one day fishing at the lake, we left the cares of the world behind! Ashley, Andy and Deborah provided good information and communication was prompt! Will definitely visit again!

Amazing view
The additional directions provided ensured we arrived without getting lost and our stock SUV made it up without a problem. We discovered a small issue our first morning but I messaged the owners and they were very quick to resolve it. We loved the views, the location, and had a great time. Would absolutely recommend this place.

Andy and I love to travel. We have been to many places such as Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and all over the US. We discovered Broken Bow, OK in 2007 when we began Boating and ATV'g. We instantly fell in love with the area. It quickly became our dream to own land inside of the National Forest. We realized our dream April of 2012. Andy and I immediately began construction on our cabin we call The Cliffhouse. We wanted to share our dream with everyone else as well. We invite to come out to The Summit House. You will feel rejuvenated, relaxed and glad you came. Please give us a call or email us with questions.
