Description

The Well House (Sleeps 9)

This amazing thatch and stone cottage, originally two cottages, is thought to be some 400 years old.

Occupied by the sculptress Elizabeth Muntz from the 1930-60s, there is artistic influence throughout this charming, sprawling residence.

For the modernist there is central heating throughout, while for the more traditional there is open fire that can be enclosed for safety, within the huge inglenook fireplace.

With its sympathetic extension to the rear (providing a large family kitchen and diner), this cottage is the perfect blend of character and comfort.

There is space to park 3 cars on the driveway to the side of the house.

The Well House sleeps 9 plus a cot and is off a lane from the village green in the small rural village of East Chaldon.

The sunny, sheltered garden has a luxury BBQ. From the cottage one can walk straight onto the footpath to the coastal path lining the spectacular World Heritage coast.

A beautiful historic cottage with everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

We booked a short break away just before Christmas as 3 adults and 1 toddler and weren't disappointed. The cottage is charming, warm, clean and provided us with all we required. A car was required for most exploring but there was plenty to see within just 10 minutes in the car. Failing that, the Sailors Return pub in the village provided welcome respite after a brisk walk. The owner was helpful and was available if needed but all our needs we're met. Thank you Philip

Gorgeous Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from Dorset and had a wonderful time. The Cottage was idyllic. Such a chocolate box setting, very quaint and just perfect for what we needed. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and flowers in both the kitchen and bedroom, which was a lovely touch. The heating had been put on so it was all warm and cosy and logs ready for the fantastic log burner, which we used every evening. The bathroom with shower isn't luxurious but perfectly fine for the time we were there. The front room was large and cosy. The main bedroom had the most comfortable bed with fluffy pillows and the kitchen had everything you needed, including tea, coffee, sugar and very kindly fresh milk. The village is tiny so if you want to get away from it all, it's ideal. The location was great as so close to Lulworth and Studland. The garden would be great for the summer and all in all I thought it was a great place to stay and would certainly love to return during the summer months. Really had a wonderful time. Thank you Philip.

Fab cottage break

  • 5 of 5

My family and I booked the well house for a family weekend in December. Not only was it ideally located, but it also had everything we needed. The kitchen was huge and but cosy with room for everybody to relax whilst others were cooking. The fire was loaded up and we had a great time playing games in the living room. The house was interesting and homely...I couldnt have asked for more.

Special occasion at The Well House

  • 4 of 5

We've just returned from a wonderful week spent at The Well House. The occasion was to celebrate my 60th birthday and it was a perfect choice. I had wanted to stay in a traditional cottage in Dorset in a quiet location but close to the spectacular coastline and hinterland that this part of Dorset offers. We were not disappointed in any way. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you could want for a relaxing stay. The owner went out of his way to be helpful which enabled us to have the celebration we had hoped for. The cottage sleeps 7 comfortably and all the bedrooms are full of character despite one of the double rooms being rather small. The ground level extension has been extremely well done and is a fantastic open plan space in keeping with the rest of the cottage.

Everything we hoped for

  • 5 of 5

This is a cottage full of character and charm as well as plenty of space for an extended family to spend a wonderful week together.

Top elements: Aga, kitchen/diner extension, sitting room with open fire, parking space, artwork on the walls, unique character.

Thanks to owner for sorting out replacement DVD so quickly and helping sort out WIFI.
