The perfect hideaway for couples Cinder Path is an unusual two storey cottage set high above the High Street with magnificent views out across the roof tops to Staithes harbour and the sea beyond. The cottage is very cosy with storage/electric heaters throughout and has been furnished to reflect the character of the property. It is located on one of the many cliff top paths that surround the village, but is also conveniently just off the main High Street. There are double and single bedrooms at the cottage, which is perfect if you wanted to bring an additional guest. Modern bathroom and kitchen. Free Wi-Fi available.

Quaint and central

Property: lovely location if you don't want to bring a car. Loading and unloading is a pain. Close to pubs and cafe. The cottage was clean and essentials provided were a nice touch.

Shower was a little bit temperamental but owner quickly sorted the issue out.

The bed in the single room is a little noisy, had to resort to ear plugs in the double room.

I would say the cottage was just about an ok size for three people.

The sea view is stretching it a bit, you have to stand up in the living room to look out of the windows.

Place: In short, Staithes is great for a day trip but very small and limited when staying for three nights. The pubs do food between 6-830pm and were packed due to only having three available to choose from and all quite small, in terms of tables available to eat food. The menus are quite similar too so the variety of available food is limited. It would have been nice to not worry about whether you'd get a table and then have people hovering whilst you are eating.

There's no post office,news agents, shop or bakery within a reasonable walking distance. There's only a butchers! The Co-op is a good 40minute walk away, including the steep hill! Best to stock up but difficult to get car near to unload.

There are some beautiful walks from the cottage which are worth doing.

A visit to Whitby is worth doing and there is a vast array of shops/pubs/restaurants to choose from. With hindsight we would have stayed in Whitby and had a day trip to Staithes.

Owner's Response: It is a shame that you appeared not have enjoyed your recent short break. The issues you outline with the village are the key reasons why people love Staithes so much and return several times a year. The cottage has two good sized bedrooms and large lounge none of which are as small or cramped as you imply - I doubt very much that you would find as much space in a central location in Whitby for a cottage sleeping 3 people. Thank you for taking the time to write a review, but I would suggest that you do bit more research before you decide on a location for your next trip.

comfortable well equipped cottage

The cottage was in a very good location in the old village. It was warm, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The chairs in the sitting room were very comfortable. The stairs were quite steep and would benefit from a hand rail. The bedroom overlooked the main street. We were not disturbed by noise, but it was a bit light at night.

Relaxing and reviving stay

Just returned from a 2week stay in this comfortable and well furnished cosy cottage. Have been visiting Staithes since 1985 and stayed in many different cottages and this one has an ideal location for the harbour and beach. It was exactly as described - clean and comfortable and well stocked with items such as a large umbrella and even a walking stick with a seat! The parking permit was a godsend and must have saved us over 80 pounds in parking fees and no daily dash to the top car park to put the ticket on the car. Highly recommended and lovely people to deal with.

Sunny weekend by the sea

The cottage is in a perfect spot tucked just above the main cobbled street, a few minutes stroll from the seafront. It's a beautiful unspoilt village with lots of quirky character,a handful of art galleries and places to eat and drink. The pub on the seafront serves amazing chips and a good selection of ales and wine. The cottage was as described, neat, very clean and surprisingly spacious. The lounge is bright and airy and we found the cottage a perfect base to get out and enjoy the sun! Will certainly consider staying again.

Nice well located cottage

We booked the Cinder Path on recommendation from friends and were not disappointed.

The layout took a bit of getting used to, but was logical to make the most of the view from upstairs. The lounge was relaxing light and airy with comfortable seating. The bathroom was clean and modern and the shower was fine.

The kitchen/diner was clean and well laid out. It looked well equipped, but, we didn't use any of the cooking facilities as there are plenty of excellent eating and drinking venues within a 5 minute walk.

The bed is one of the most comfortable we have had the pleasure of sleeping in.

The booking process was easy and fairly painless. Amanda answered all queries promptly and sorted any problems without fuss.

We can recommend the Cod and Lobster on the harbour front, they serve delicious food in large portions at a reasonable price. The beer is good as well.

Another recommendation goes to 'Dotty's Vintage Tea Shop' (See them on Facebook). The Owner is lovely and her 'assistant' is one of the craziest people you could wish to meet. They made the whole experience well worth it. We can't recommend the fresh, home baked, scones and cakes enough.

Will we be back.................Of course we will..

Staithes has a small harbour beach 200 yards from the properties, Runswick Bay 5 miles - long sandy beach renowned as the best beach combing beach in Britain, Sandsend 7 miles - beautiful long sandy beach with stunning views towards Whitby and very popular with surfers.

Travel:

Staithes is on the main bus route from Middlesbrough to Whitby with hourly services. Stations - Saltburn by the Sea 9 miles, Whitby 9 miles. Airports - Durham Tees Valley 25 miles, Leeds Bradford 75 miles, Newcastle 75 miles. Use of a car is not essential, but recommended.

Distances:

Whitby 9 miles, Saltburn by the Sea 9 miles, North York Moors Railway at Grosmont 11 miles, Scarborough 28 miles, York 45 miles.

Further Details:

Two local pubs The George and Cod & Lobster in the village plus The Cleveland Corner bistro, an intimate dining experience. In Dalehouse there is the Fox & Hounds and in Hinderwell the Badger Hounds offering good pub food. All are within 10 minute drive or 30 minute walk if you are feeling energetic! Further afield there are many award winning restaurants in Goldsborough, Sandsend and Whitby.
