About the Owner

When we came the first time to places like Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta and Lucca we fell deeply in love with this part of Tuscany. And after 15 years living and working here nothing has changed. Its paradise! This region close to the beaches, the historical cities and the mountains is offering all kind of choices and possibilities: When you’re looking for a beautiful golf course, there is the most elegant one near Forte, just a few minutes by car. The beaches and the Alps - Alpe Apuani - are just in front of you and if you want to mingle with the rich and beautiful people go for a shopping tour to the most famous designer shops in Forte dei Marmi. Lifestyle at its best! The difference to other places is the advantage that infrastructure, social and cultural life are active all year round.

Lovely villa - wonderful location and views

  • 5 of 5

We found the property immaculately clean and spacious exceeding our needs as a family of 4 adults and a toddler. The grounds were well tended and trimmed giving us zones to sit and relax - either in sunshine or under shade. One of our favourite zones was the platform outside the kitchen with a view of the sweeping countryside. The furnishings were ideal for all ages and room for 7 or 8 people. While the access to the pool is down a steep path, the canopy, chairs, reclining benches and pool toys made "going to the pool" a most delightful expedition. All the bedrooms were perfectly equipped and the beds were most comfortable.

The village shop (for groceries and lunch) was run by a most friendly woman who made us feel so welcome. She carried just what we needed and always had delicious fresh food, inexpensive Italian wines and the basics.

The property owner and property manager were delightful to work with. Thomas, the owner, was helpful and clear about our booking. He also recommended that we book our restaurants in advance and he handled all of that for us - after providing us with a full list of choices. As he was away while we were in his property, the property manager, Michel, greeted us on arrival, walking us through the property - giving us clear instructions on how to work everything. Most importantly he invited us to ring or text should we have any questions. This came in very handy when we needed him to contact the private beach where we left something behind. He was most helpful and resourceful to get the item left behind back in our hands.

Owner's Response: Dear Jonathan, Thank you so much for your excellent review. We are glad that we could even exceed your expectations. We ourselves are travelling alot abroad and we are knowing what it takes renting a holiday house in a foreign country. "Immaticulate clean" comes always first to feel comfortably at home... Excellent family holiday

  • 5 of 5

What a superb fortnight we had at Villa Colombaia! For a family celebration it couldn't have been better. Three generations (ages 2-75) enjoyed a beautiful area, a magnificent property tastefully decorated to a very high standard, and stunning gardens. The pool was great, and enjoyed by all (especially good being away from the house - a good safety aspect for the children).

We enjoyed the vast gardens and extensive choice of seating/play areas. We really could have stayed entirely at the property and been very happy! But with such beautiful areas to explore surrounding us we found a good balance.

Thomas and Michel were were incredibly accommodating and helpful - a constant source of local information.

With a need for strict gluten free catering (coeliac diet) we found Camaoiore excellent, with an entirely gf shop at hand. We would highly recommend visiting Sabrina at La Bonta Senza Glutine - what an incredible choice!

We would love to return.... watch this space!

Fabulous family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had an absolutely fabulous two week stay in this wonderful villa in Tuscany this August. The villa itself has been beautifully renovated and is a delight to stay in - everything was lovely and clean and tastefully decorated, and it had everything we needed for our holiday! The grounds and garden that the villa is situated in are absolutely stunning - we loved the swimming pool area and had many lazy afternoons relaxing there - and the views all around the property are phenomenal - we still miss them now we are home!

Thomas, the owner, does a wonderful job of looking after his guests. We found that he was immediately available to help if needed, was very happy to recommend restaurants, and also to book them for us when necessary, was able to give us tons of advice about travel, parking and beaches and even to give us very accurate weather forecasts!! He was a fabulous host, unobtrusive, but always there if we needed him, and his help and sense of humour made our holiday even more special.

Thank you, Thomas - we loved our stay in Pieve di Camaiore!

Stunning views, handy location, everything clean and tidy, plus Thomas was a very discrete and efficient host, happy to provide advice and help when organising an itinerary, making a restaurant reservation etc. Batteries fully re-charged at the end of two weeks... :)

Beautiful House and Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 8 days and the house and location were amazing. The views from the house, terrace and pool were breathtaking. The house is beautifully decorated and clean. The kitchen is compact but has most amenities needed for day to day cooking. Thomas was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The local village is walkable at around 500 yards, though the hills are steep, and has 2 good restaurants and 2 small shops selling fruit and vegetables and cold meats and cheese, but Camaiore is only a mile or so away and is a fantastic small town with great deli's and restaurants.

This villa is perfect for small families or couples wanting a break and relaxation.

Fabulous setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant family holiday here in Tuscany. The villa is in a wonderful setting with just the most fantastic panoramic view. The house is well furnished and although the kitchen is small, is well equipped.

We visited the walled town of Lucca a couple of times - well worth visiting, Florence, as well as sightseeing in the local area.

Thomas, the owner, made our holiday just yet more relaxing by playing the wonderful host. He made all our restaurant bookings, booked tennis courts, advised on trains to Florence etc - all invaluable and took the pressure off us. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

So to sum up, great holiday, beautiful place, great food and the best of hosts.

Thank you Thomas

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Note that Villa Colombaia is a non smoking accommodation. There are however many places to smoke such as all the terraces, the garden, the gazebo of the pool and the covered outdoor eating place. Outside: Because of its lofty position of Villa Colombaia there are lots of panoramic views from all parts of the surrounding garden (2.200 sqm). Relaxing either on the roof top terrace, reading books under huge shady trees or sunbathing at the pool side, there is a plenty of things to do. A pool, measuring 12x6m, is for your private use. It`s situated on a lower level of the garden. The depth of the water is constantly 1.50 m. Kids and elderly people must be continously watched. The use of the pool is at your own risk. There is a new pool area equipment from 2011 such as a gazebo, umbrella, sunbeds, deckchairs. The water quality is perfect, since the water has been recently replaced on May 15, 2014. The pool will be maintained weekly by an authorized pool maintaining company. Pool is available from May 1st to October 1st, depending on weather conditions, of course. Utility Room: Utility room at lower level with washing-machine, iron/ironing board, cleaning equipment, vacuum cleaner. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linens and towels are included in rental price. Electricity and gas are not included ( to be paid extra upon departure ). Other: A roofed outdoor eating place will be your favourite "living room" in warm summer days and nights. From here you will have panoramic views to the valley and to the mountains. It`s peaceful and beautiful here as well at night.
