About Sonja Whitticase

Hello, I was born and bred in Conca dei Marini, on the stunning Amalfi coast. I fell in love and married a Welshman which meant I left the coast and settled in the UK. About 10 years ago, I built this house in the large gardens and lemon groves left to me by my mother. I return often but I am delighted that others can share what is a very beautiful part of the world.

Sonja Whitticase purchased this villa in 1996

Why Sonja Whitticase chose Amalfi Coast

This property is a luxurious and traditional house with large french windows and the traditional cupolas - famous of the region.

What makes this villa unique

The Amalfi Coast is famous for good reason - it is spectacular and the Mediterranean lifestyle is loved by many. The villa is located right in the centre of the coast.

The small village of Conca means that you can walk everywhere and enjoy some of the coast's loveliest beaches, fresh seafood restaurants and great hikes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Almost all our guests write to us to say how much they loved the villa - here is one example:

The villa itself was comfortable and well kitted out. Often it is a struggle when you stay in a holiday villa but not this time: there was everything we could possibly need in the kitchen, the shower was good, the bed comfy, lots of local info was available and I loved the swing chair! The garden was just lovely - I am a professional gardener and it was so nice being able to sit and look without working! Having access to the washing machine was also useful.

We loved the coast and visited Amalfi, Altrani, Capri, Ravello and Positano. The roads were a bit on the scary side so we went everywhere by bus and boat after that which worked really well. Also loved the Marina in Conca and ate on the beach and had to negotiate the steps back up afterwards!!

Many thanks and hope to stay at the villa again.

Regards,

Mrs Rivers (Stayed - 24/5/12- 31/5/12)

A perfect location with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

We initially were planning a package tour of the Amalfi area but took an entirely different approach when we discovered this VRBO offering. We booked the villa and built the entire vacation around those dates. It was perfect for the two of us in a optimum, relaxing location just a short distance away from the more frenetic pace of Amalfi and Positano. We spent one day just relaxing at the villa and walking along the road enjoying the view of the Mediterranean. Antonio and Miriam (your local hosts) at Le Bonta del Capo were an excellent resource for most any concern we had and were invaluable in arranging private cars when local transportation couldn't accommodate us. Their restaurant was a favorite along with Risto, a short walk away. We were very happy having this as a home base to enjoy and explore the area.

Thanks Sonja!

A well equipped compact villa, with a beautiful garden in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying in the garden villa for a second time. All the arrangements worked well. We spent most of the time on the beach at Conca, as it was too hot to go sight -seeing by road. We would recommend the water taxi to visit Amalfi in the summer.

It is important to feed the parking meter every day, and to move the car away from the main road prior to the festival of Santa Rosa. Don't park under a tree, or you might find an army of ants has colonised your car as we did!

Returning to the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea each evening was a real pleasure, and we would have no hesitation in booking the property again.

Nice quite local area to experience true Amalfi coastal area and hospitality. Central to exploring Amalfi town Ravello (a must) Positano and Capri (use La Boa in Praiano) Make sure you use the local buses an experience. Good supermarket and restaurants especially the two near the property.

The perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

The Garden Villa is the perfect place to stay in the beautiful and quiet location of Conca Dei Marini. The villa is clean, comfortable, well equipped and a lovely place to relax at the end of a busy day exploring the Amalfi Coast. It is within easy walking distance to local restaurants, the supermarket and bus stops, and a slightly more strenuous walk to the local beaches, which make it a great base for a fantastic holiday. I would strongly recommend staying here!

Spectacular location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the villa in Conca die Marina. When you want to experience the true Amalfi Coast, this is the place to be. Our accommodations were clean and well appointed, with lemon trees in the garden and a beautiful variety of flowers in the garden to explore. The view from the terrace was breathe taking. Special thank you to Antonio and everyone at Polysportive as well as the wonderful family who run the small grocery store. This is a wonderful place to be, relaxing, quiet in the heart of Amalfi.

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Conca has some famously beautiful beaches - Jackie Onassias and Princess Margaret regularly used to visit & swim - which are all within 15 minutes walk from the house.

House is approximately 25 steps away from the closest road.

Travel:

Naples Airport is 1hr 15 minutes away. Car hire is recommended for those who want to see many of the sites up and down the Amalfi Coast. For those who wish to walk to the beach, eat locally and focus on relaxing and enjoying Conca, we would recommend a taxi from the airport to the house (we can help you arrange this) and then use buses/taxis for the odd venture outside of Conca.

Distances:

Amalfi 15 minutes by car, 40 scenic minutes walking, Positano 30 minutes by car, Ravello 30 minutes by car, Naples - 1hr 15 minutes, Pompei & Vesuvius 1hr, Capri about 40 minutes by hydrofoil from Amalfi. Villa location. 5 minutes walk from 2 of Conca's main restaurants. 50 metres from the original old square of the village. 5 minutes walk is Conca's only supermarket, which includes a fresh deli counter selling cheese, hams & local specialities

50 metres away from local bus.

Further Details:

Conca Dei Marini or 'Conca of the Mariners' is a semi-rural village in the centre of the Amalfi Coast, 10 minutes drive from Amalfi. It has had about 700 inhabitants for the last 100 years and is one of the most authentic places to experience the famous coastline. The village offers some spectacular walks, excellent restaurants and the classic Mediterranean lifestyle.
