Join us for Shabby Chic workshops, olive harvesting, or an activity holiday. We are situated amidst great walking, cycling & motorcycling country. The Giro D'Italia frequently passes close by us in May.

Relax in the classic Italian splendour of your apartment, or while away an hour in our leisure room with antique American Pool table, 42 inch TV & DVD player.

At Villa Maieletta you can be in the mountains in the morning, on the beach in the afternoon and dine in the countryside under the stars.

About the Owner

Kate and Stephen have travelled extensively and lived in different countries in Asia. Their interests include cycling, walking, growing organic fruit and countryside conservation. Both delight in living in and learning from communities that provide a different experience, and are keen to support local enterprises. They feel that living on site enables them to provide a complete holiday experience for guests, through their knowledge of the area and local events. They live in the Villa grounds away from the apartments, and do their best to make guests feel at home, and to be a resource for advice and information, without being intrusive

Kate and Stephen love living so close to the mountains and consider themselves very lucky to have finally settled in such a lovely area.

A gentler pace of life

  • 5 of 5

The scenery is so stunning you want to get up as early as possible so as not to waste any time away from the views. It is visual heaven.

This marvelous settings unifies the natural world with the Renaissance dwellings perfectly.

Steve and Kate are the best hosts with the most beautiful house you could wish for to compliment this truly breathtaking landscape.

They have invested loads of time and detail into creating this first class property adding playful naturalistic floral Rococo interiors into possibly, the best holiday destination in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

A real moment was when Steve projected European football on to walls of one the buildings at least 40 foot in size and we sat back on the roof terrace attempting to keep focus on who will score the next goal whilst continually being distracted by the real stars floating above in a truly clear sky. Steve informs me he will be showing films on his exterior walls on more occasions.

I Will definitaley be booking to visit here again.

Excellent holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 9 nights in Casa Maieletta. It was immaculately clean on arrival and well equipped for our stay. The bed was huge and really comfortable. Kate and Stephen were most helpful and assisted with any questions that we had. Kate also gave us marmalade which she had made and figs from the trees. There was also a tv/computer available and snooker table with books and maps of the area.

The area was very pretty with hills in the background which if it hadn't been too hot would have been a delight to walk up. The local villages were interesting to visit. The coast was about half an hour away with a variety of beaches, sandy and pebbly.

This is the perfect location for those that like beaches and the countryside as you get the best of both worlds. The hosts, Kate and Stephen were really friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend Casa Maieletta as a place to stay in Abruzzo. We loved our holiday here.

Location

From the Owner

Time stands almost still in Limiti, a rural place where the pattern, sights and sounds of life are as they would have been decades ago. Some of the people have changed, many of the families have not, and we are very lucky to have great people living nearby and to be part of a community that embraces our guests as positively as it has embraced us. The views we enjoy are stunning, together with the peaceful surrounding environment, where a mere tractor passing by is an event to arouse curiousity. The Villa is tucked away in a quiet corner of Abruzzo and is just right, a little bubble of tranquility without being either remote or isolated. The road to the Villa is tarmac all the way, important to make the journey easy for us, and for our guests.

Enjoy one of our Shabby Chic workshops in Autumn or join us for an olive harvesting holiday in early November, and return home with the oil from the fruits of your labours. End the year here with the most peaceful Christmas ever; see village corner nativities, seasonal markets and moonlit snowy mountains.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach, Fossacesia is 30 km away. The fashionable beach resort of Pescara is a 45 minute drive. It is also a small fishing & ferry port, with an excellent fish market, open in the mornings. Ferry destinations include Croatia.

Kilometres of uninterrupted seafront stretch between Francavilla, which neighbours Pescara, & Silvi. The cycle and footway that runs along the Adriatic coast is a popular place for locals to promenade & socialise.

A wide range of car hire desks can be found in airport arrival halls, with some of the most competitive rates offered on airline websites.

Distances:

Local places of interest include:

Lakes Casoli and Bomba (each about 10 km)

Cavallone Cave, complete with stalactites (15 km)

The town of Chieti, built on the site of a pre-Roman settlement, whose remains can still be viewed today (20 km)

Guardiagrele, which boasts superb panoramic views, along with fascinating historic sites, arts, culture and up-market shops

Roccascalegna Castle (10 km)

Lanciano, which features stunning architecture such as the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte (25 km)

Further Details:

The south-facing Villa has spectacular views of Palombaro, 536 metres above sea level, at the foot of the 2,252 metre Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range, where the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” featuring Ray Winstone, was filmed. Rolling hills lead towards Lake Casoli.

Wildlife surrounds you; wild boar, eagles, kites, falcons, roe deer and mink are often in the area, with Apennine wolves in the mountains. Listen to the Scops Owl calling its mate across the fields on summer evenings, or watch the fireflies as they make the beautiful clear night sky twinkle in May & June.Wildflowers, such as orchids, that would be the envy of Interflora adorn the hillsides in April.

People are wonderfully warm and friendly, with an openness and honesty that is seldom found among the urban sophistication of more developed places.

Summertime is festival season, and in August there's an event on nearby almost every night. There's plenty of choice, with a wild boar (cingiale) festa that lasts 3 weeks, a hot chilli pepper event, cheese and chocolate festas. The Fiat 500 car rally is in June, and July has the Val Serviera mountain-top walk and Pescara International Jazz Festival, which attracts famous artists from around the globe. Lanciano's Medieval Festa takes place in early September, and the Casoli Festival of Patron Saints is at the beginning of October.

Our local Sant'Antonio festa on the first weekend in August brings the young and old together, with traditional and modern music, plus dancing. The local road is closed off for another great night out, the Di Vitis Festa Della Birra (beer festival) in mid-August. The De Vitis family-run general store, 1 km away, is the hub of the area, and a hive of activity that's run by the amazing Maria; it includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. Maria, a celiac sufferer, has made sure that the store stocks a great range of celiac foods. An "agroturismo" restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa.
