great gite and great facilities!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely gite and you will not be disappointed with a stay here. It far exceeded our expectations and the pictures don't do it justice. Laurel cottage is spacious, clean and a really comfortable home from home. There was nothing you could want for - a huge amount of cooking utensils (often missing in a holiday home) plenty of fresh towels. The owners live next door and went out of their way to make sure all our needs were met - offering advice on days out, restaurants, parking and handy pointers throughout our stay (very friendly but not intrusive). Facilities at the gite were excellent including a heated outdoor pool plus a spacious indoor games room with snooker and table tennis - the kids loved it. The on-site pottery barn/art studio was the highlight of our stay - we were able to have a private pottery/art class - fantastic. Big thanks to the owners Gill and Martin who have put every effort into running this truly wonderful gite - it shows. Excellent value for money.

Excellent Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent holiday, the accommodation was good and had all the amenities we needed. A quiet and peaceful location with a lovely swimming pool. The owners are very friendly and cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxed holiday in a rural position. We were a group of six adults and one child. All thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.

From the Owner

Gill and Martin moved to this most beautiful part of Brittany from England in 2001, having lived in Essex for the previous 25 years. They took over the property in Cornean with its two existing gites and have enjoyed the company of a stream of varied and interesting people holidaying with them for the past sixteen years. Many of these visitors, they are delighted to say, visit them year after year and have become good friends. The swimming pool and gardens were a huge bonus and when the barn next door came up for sale it added to their dream of having a pottery and craft studio on site as well. Gill teaches regular pottery and craft classes each week, to which guests are more than welcome to join in. Their dream was further realised when they added a little hobby farm for rescued animals.

Special interest holidays:

Pottery and Craft Holidays. We will arrange your art and craft holiday entirely around the things that you want to do and experience. We offer short breaks, self catering or all inclusive holidays and you can choose to bring your own transport or be picked up from our nearest Port or Airport and chauffeur driven for you stay. You can either concentrate on just one of the many subjects we cover, choose several options to have a go at or embrace the whole lot....depending, of course, on how long you intend to stay with us. There are lots of arts and craft classes to enjoy on our specially tailored holidays, please visit our website for more details (see below).

There are an abundance of beautiful beaches within drivable distance, the nearest ones being within about thirty minutes. They range from expanses of golden sand to rocky outcrops and hidden away coves. Lots of the beaches have watersports that you can participate in and fantastic towns that have lovely restaurants and original shops.

We are located in central Brittany and easily accessible from several ports and the airport at Dinard. The Port of St. Malo is about an hour away, Caen is two and a half hours, Cherbourg three hours and Roscoff is about ninety minutes. Dinard Airport is about fifty minutes away and serviced by Ryanair. The use of a car is recommended, you can either bring your own, hire one at the Port or Airport or we can pick you up from the nearest Port or Airport and chauffeur you while you are here.

Our nearest villages are Plouguenast and Ploeuc-sur-Lie,about 6 minutes away, the latter of which has a market every Thursday. The larger towns of Loudeac, St. Brieuc and Pontivy are within 30/40 minutes away. Brittany is a beautiful place and as such has an abundance of places of interest, beaches, lakes and historical towns to visit.

Further Details:

There is a large equestrian centre in Loudeac, about fifteen minutes away, where you can arrange to have a hour or so horseriding or trekking around the beautiful Breton countryside. Canoeing plays a big part in the local area and there are plenty of rivers and the Nante/Brest Canal offering varying challenges to the adventurous canoeist. In the Summer months our local Canoe Club in Plouguenast opens its doors to visitors of all abilities. Both of our local villages have Supermarkets, Banks, Churches, Bakeries and Butchers as well as a few other shops and small restaurants. Within 15 minutes is Moncontour, a medieval walled town with 16th Century ramparts and the larger towns of Loudeac, St. Brieuc and Pontivy are within a half hour to forty minute drive where there is a fantastic range of shops and restaurants. There is a large Go-Kart Track just outside of Lamballe where you can enjoy hours of entertainment both as a driver or an observer. They cater for the very beginner to the more advanced driver and are able to accomodate individuals or team events. The track has quite a few challenging bends and hairpins and has a lovely decking area where you can sit and enjoy the events. There is also a bar where you can purchase refreshments. Because the area we are based in is so rural there are some beautiful walks and the lanes and pathways are mostly free of traffic so you can enjoy walking or cycling in relative safety. Birdwatching, photography, drawing, painting...all are things that can be enjoyed within our local area.
