Villa With Private Pool And Sea Glimpse, Situated Within Large Gardens

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Villa in Carvoeiro Clube - Peaceful Location Within Walking Distance Of Town And Beach And Close To Tennis Courts And Gym

The villa has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the ground floor and an additional shower room by the pool. The large lounge and kitchen are situated upstairs and have a good balcony with patio furniture for enjoying a sunshine breakfast or quiet evening drinks whilst the bbq and outside kitchen are close to the pool and large terraces for relaxing poolside lunches. There are both covered and sun terraces so the olive skinned can tan and the fair skinned can find a spot in the shade. The generous 10 metre pool will keep up your excercise! The television has cable channels with several English programmes and there is wi fi internet for those who have to "keep in touch" - your Iphone should connect to this without the need for expensive "roaming internet access". This is a family home and is equipped with many extras not normally found in a "holiday let". A favourite thing is to relax on the seating under the pepper tree in the garden. The villa is ideal for couples or families and we welcome children over 8.

About the Owner

The owners are a semi retired couple who live in Pembrokeshire and enjoy many winter months in Carvoeiro. We have many friends in Pembroke, especially since running a small restaurant before retirement. Maurice was born and bred here in what is a small and friendly community. Christine also ran a villa rental company specialising in Carvoeiro for fifteen years and many of her owners and contacts in Carvoeiro have become good friends too. So, of course, we feel equally at home in either location. We both love walking the coast paths, eating out and exploring generally. We love "outdoor living" when possible and our two homes give us plenty of that. We are so, so lucky to be able to share our time in these lovely surroundings.

Villa was beautiful loved are stay , would really benefit from more shade areas around pool ie awning for eating out . Our bedroom was lovely with doors opening onto pool area but we couldn't open them as no mosito net ! Would have been great with air conditioning!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. There are covered terraces for eating out but I agree that an awning is more user friendly than the brollies provided and we are looking into this. Unfortunately the mosquito blind to the master bedroom has twice been broken by guests walking into it, so we are not sure what to do about this - might be that we can add netting to the shutters. Thank you for your review and we are pleased you enjoyed your holiday. I hope you will return one day in the future. Best wishes. Christine

Casa Cegonha

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed with friends at this lovely traditional villa. It is spacious and very well equipped. Our Bedroom had French doors out onto the pool area which has ample sun loungers and there is also a shower room and kitchen off, very convenient for preparing food for barbeques. The upstairs lounge opens out onto a terrace where we sat and enjoyed our breakfast overlooking the pool and garden which is stocked with plums, pomegranates and dates to name just a few. It is in a quiet residential area and we enjoyed the 15 min. walk into town although rather hilly in places and possibly a car would be recommended for people with walking difficulties but the taxis in town are very reliable and reasonably priced. Carvoeiro is a lovely town and the restaurants are all good value. Our favourite being A Gale and then Imprevisto Bar for a variety of drinks (all good measures!). There is an open stage on the town square in high season where different musicians play most nights and it is a wonderful atmosphere. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and would thoroughly recommend the villa and Carvoeiro.

Lovely time at Casa Cegohna

  • 5 of 5

A spur of the moment break (two couples in our mid 60's), with no hire car to worry about!

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Cegohna with plenty of room and a secluded pool area which is very safe for families with small children. We were delighted to find essentials in the fridge to keep us going until we went shopping (5 minutes walk to the nearest mini market or a 15-20 minute walk downhill to Carvoeiro). A taxi from the square back to the villa costs 5-6 Euros.

We spent our time in Carvoeiro relaxing at the villa or on the beach enjoying the September sunshine. We dined out somewhere different every evening as there is a wide selection of restaurants and bars in the resort. We recommend A Gale’ and Oasis restaurants (great spare ribs) - but book to avoid disappointment!

The atmosphere at Bar Imprevisto is very friendly and relaxed, being used by holiday markers and locals alike. It is just the place to spend a couple of hours watching the world go by.

Casa Cegohna is a good location for families who would make full use of the spacious layout and ample kitchen. There are plenty of trips and things to do in and around Carvoeiro. Enjoy!

What a wonderful villa in a peaceful location, 20min stroll to the town. Ample space around the pool, cleanest and best maintained pool we have experienced. Wonderful orchard surrounding the villa with a vast variety of fruit trees. Very handy kitchen next to the pool area. Inside of villa clean and comfortable with a colonial feel. Bathrooms very clean but could do with an update.

Owner's Response: Thank you Linda. Very pleased you enjoyed the villa, pool and garden and point taken about the bathrooms. They are a bit old fashioned, I know (lovely traditional tiles, which we love)!!! We do plan to update the bathrooms soon, but in the meantime we have made sure everything works and Marilde keeps scrupulously clean, as you say. All the best and I do hope you will return. Best regards, Christine and Maurice.

From the Owner

We walked in and I just had to have this villa. It was love at first sight. It is so light and airy and the upstairs terrace is a real bonus. We have our breakfast outside listening to the birds and planning our day. The garden - I just love walking around looking at the plants and butterflies and seeing if I can spy a lizard hiding in the rocks. Things have changed a little in the garden since we bought the villa.... our fruit trees are fruiting now and we have built paths and rockeries. What hasn't changed is that we love our villa as much as ever.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Faro at 45 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Escondidinho at 400 Metres Nearest Ferry : Portimao at 7 Kilometres Nearest Train : Tunes at 8 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : P1 at 3 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Escondidinho at 400 Metres

The sheltered sandy beach off the square in Carvoeiro and the Paraiso (Paradise) beach (sand and rocks) are both within walking distance. Do get out and about to see the many sandy beaches all within a short drive from the villa - check out out much used "Beach book" for the lesser known and quiet beaches. The information center within the square can also tell you "what's on" and "where to go" and usually has free magazines available with a local map and informaton. Our favourite beach is Praia do Marinha beach with its lovely walks along the cliffs and steps down to very quiet little bays. We also like to visit Praia Canarios on the way to Ferragudo, where the waves come up to the restaurant overlooking the beach. Not cheap this one, but lovely for a special evening out just for the view. There are numerous lovely walks along the clifftops within easy reach - either walking or by car and park up and now a safe boardwalk has been created overlooking the Algar Seco rock formations, a lovely stroll after your evening meal to watch the sun go down.

Most people fly into Faro airport which is around 45 minutes by car from Carvoeiro. Taxis and shuttle services are also available. You can also fly into Lisbon and drive down to Algarve -a bit more than two hours drive. Car hire is recommended to take advantage of seeing a little of this lovely area. A trip to the Monchique is a must - the views are stunning and the distance little more than half an hour by car. Take a couple of empty bottles and collect spring water from the many "fontes" along the way. If you don't want to drive then taxis are very reasonable and reliable.

Carvoeiro is around 800 metres from the villa. Nearest snack bar/restaurant is just 5 minutes away - Escondidinho has now been very nicely modernised and always busy, so best to book. The food is simple but always plenty of it and reasonably priced. Nearest shop 10 minutes. Silves historic town a 10 minute drive. Portimao for shopping - 15 minutes drive. Shopping centre "Algarve Shopping" 20 minutes.

Further Details:

There are several banks in Carvoeiro all with atm machines and there is a post office and several mini markets. The larger Pinga Doce supermarket is on the outskirts of Lagoa (3km) Intermarche is on the Lagoa road (2km) and we now have a small Aldi too. There is a Slide and Splash park on route to Armacao de Pera - about 10 minutes by car.

We love our garden and have added more fruit trees over the years. We have fig trees, plum, pear, apricot, peach, nectarine, nesperas, a young mango and a tayberry. No fruit on the kiwis yet - waiting for those to grow a bit!
