The apartment is located near the lifeboat slip on the eastern tip of Swanage Bay known as Peveril Point. Although only a short stroll into town the Point provides a haven of peace and tranquility even in the busy summer months. 'Waterside' is a family home of character and has 3 bedrooms that can accommodate 2 adults and 4 children comfortably. In addition there is a sofa bed in the living room which can accommodate a further two people. There is a kitchen/dining room and a living room with sea views. There is a secluded garden and beyond a patio ideal for relaxing.

I currently reside in Kent with my Wife and Dog . The Appartment is our family's much loved second home and we would ask you to treat it with respect and care. It is in a magical location on the Jurrasic Coast. I am certain that you will fall in love with it as most visitors do.

Why Peter Barrow chose Swanage

My mother purchased the property just after WWII to provide a home for my sister and I after losing her husband in the Normandy Landings.

The location is simply unbeatable. The property is right on the beautiful Jurassic Coast. Views from the seafront garden North across the bay to Old Harry's Rock, eastwards to the Isle of White and The Needles and the stunning coastal path behind leading to Durlston Bay, Dancing Ledge and beyond. Five minutes walk along the seafront takes you to town - but Peveril Point is an oasis of tranquility, even in the height of Summer. It is an ideal base for exploring the Isle of Purbeck and beyond by foot, car or boat. or just sitting outside and doing nothing.

It provides a unique environment for energetic children to expend their energies.

What makes this apartment unique

From rock pools to sandy beaches for exploring and paddling it forms the ideal base for a family holiday. There are two routes into town , one along the seashore for the more adventurous passing the 'Lifeboat House' (open to visitors),fisherman's beach and sandy Sailing Club beach.

A 10 minute drive will take you to the National Trust beaches at Studland. Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, the ghost village of Tynham and Kimmeridge are all within easy reach and among the many delights waiting to be discovered in the Isle of Purbeck.

Swimming and Fishing can also be done directly in front of the ground floor Appartment. There is use of a slipway. There is a private area for dining , sunbathing

and watching the sun go down directly in front of the building. It provides a unique environment..

1. My boys adored the freedom of this place and we have been using this holiday home for many years. We have enjoyed spending our holidays in this unique environment.

2. Thursday changeover works very well, the traffic is a joy ! . Such a pleasure to find all clean and tidy on arrival. Having your regular cleaner available for us to employ is a bonus.

3. A unique friendly, homely atmosphere ! We felt really comfortable and relaxed here. We enjoyed the flat and how conveniently positioned it was to all the local amenities and attractions.

4. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay in your lovely appartment. It was just perfect. I must say as soon as we walked into the appartment we felt instantly at home and would very much like to return later in the year.

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is semi detached, end of a terrace. We have great relations with the neighbour above and to the side. It is not suitable for large loud groups or single sex parties. We would ask guests to respect this. It is an ideal family holiday retreat. Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement, no animals on the furniture please. Non smoking. Gas central heating. Outside: There is a secluded front garden and outside the front gate there is a private 'shared' open space overlooking the sea where one can dine, sunbathe and watch the sun set. The kitchen door opens to the back yard with shared drying facilities. The back gate opens onto the car park/downs and Durlston Bay. Parking behind the building. Parking permit for use in the marked bays nearby should parking not be available behind the building. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: You will need to bring your own linen and towels. Duvets or Blankets are provided. You are responsible for cleaning/removing rubbish. If you do not wish to do this we will provide the details of our cleaner £13 ph. This will be at your convenience/cost.

Seafront Apartment with magnificent sea views

Great location. Spacious vintage flat. Some updating needed.

I went for a 4-night stay with my three children and a visiting friend from abroad. The first two days were very good but on the third evening the fuse box started to play up. Basically, all the electrics in half of the flat would go off as the circuit was tripping every few minutes. Since we were cooking dinner we had to keep going back to switch it back on only for it to trip again a few minutes later. It made for a tedious and stressful evening. I spoke to the housekeeper who assured me he would sort it in the morning. The next night it started all over again. We couldn’t face another such evening so went out for a pub meal. When I spoke to the owner upon my return he just said that ‘well it’s just one of those things! It’s all sorted now!’ When pressed to consider some good will gesture since the flat was essentially not fit for purpose for half of our stay of 4 nights he offered 5% off a future booking and advised to contact him directly off site so as to save on the booking fee. I replied that I didn’t consider this suitable and he just ignored my email.

The vacuum cleaner is broken (hose keeps coming off).

Furthermore, the booking process was complicated as I received a wrong payment receipt in the first place and it took several days to sort out.

So with these problems rectified it would be a good experience. Unfortunately for us it was just too expensive for what it was.

Owner's Response: I am sorry the stay, otherwise a good experience, was coloured by the tripping electrics which we tried to resolve immediately. Unfortunately it was a bit more complicated than first thought but has now been rectified as has the vacuum cleaner. Updating is a continuous process. No e-mail was ignored and compensation for inconvenience, added expense and worry as a goodwill gesture has been agreed, accepted and paid amicably. The booking process is beyond my control and I also found it complicated.

Wonderful location

We stayed here with one of our daughters and her two children. This review is based on all three generations! The property is in the last building at the tip of Peveril Point with wonderful views and easy access to cliff top walks and the town. The view from the sitting room is stunning and the children loved the easy access to the sea. There was plenty of room for all of us.

We would heartily recommend this apartment to anyone who likes peace and quiet; fresh air; views and easy access to pubs, restaurants, shops etc.

Brilliant will be back

Booked for a week to take 2 eldest grandsons aged 4 and 5 away for their first holiday with "Nanna and Grandad", so trepidation on many levels. What a relief, the apartment was ideal and we were made very welcome by locals in the Peverill community. All on one level so kids close by, only careful bit was steep steps down from car parking area but could have walked down a slope and in through the front door. Spent time on beach and on only rainy day took steam train to Corfe Castle. Lots of fun crabbing [use smoked bacon] and appreciated homely touches around the apartment.......you are really feel as if you are staying in someones home so it was easy to relax , rather than somewhere out of a design magazine. Will we go back? Definitely and grandsons already pestering

Perfect location

The location of this property on the very tip of Peveril Point is truly breathtaking, with the waters of Swanage Bay literally lapping at the garden wall - especially so with the added bonus of glorious weather. The ground floor apartment itself is somewhat old fashioned, but that very much adds to its charm. The lovely resort of Swanage is just a 10 minute stroll away, and offers everything you could wish for in a traditional resort - with none of the negatives that have spoiled so many of its rivals. The house is reasonably comfortable, though the sole bathroom is rather basic. On a beach holiday with our young grandsons we really missed not having a decent shower at the end of the day. The kitchen was adequate for our needs.

Our only major gripe is the requirement to fully clean the apartment on leaving. Obviously, all renters should ensure that any property is well looked after. But in our wide experience of holiday properties in this sector of the market (?900 a week) it seems reasonable to expect a professional cleaning service to be included.

Our favourite corner of the World

This was our 2nd consecutive year at Waterside, although s a family we've been going to Swanage for 30 years. Our only regret is that we didn't discover Waterside 30 years ago! It's an idyllic setting right at the water's edge, in a relatively undiscovered corner of this beautiful seaside town. We arrive there as an extended family, with grandchildren, boats, and all the trappings, and for the whole 2 weeks we find we stray very little from the area of the property, but just immediately switch into relaxation mode and take in the fantastic surroundings.

The flat itself is very spacious, and is reminiscent of an Enid Blyton novel. Even on the one or two poor weather days, it was enjoyable to to stay inside, reading our newspapers on the large window seat in the living room, and take in the peace and tranquility outside. We also regularly made use of the beautiful down just behind the property, which leads up directly onto the coast path, with breathtaking views all around the bay.

We've only been back a week and are already working out our dates to rebook for next year!

Directly in front of the Apartment is a stony foreshore with rock pools , ideal for crabbing and shrimping. There is a slipway. The sailing club has a small sandy beach - 5 mins walk, Swanage main beach, also sandy, 10 minutes walk and Studland National Trust beach a 10 minute drive. Durlston offers a wilder environment for exploring and swimming.


Swanage is located in the Isle of Purbeck, approx 2.5 hours drive from London


Swanage town is approx 1/4 mile away. Corfe Castle approx 5 miles. Studland approx 5 miles. Wareham approx 10 miles. Bournmouth approx 8 miles across chain ferry to Poole. Lulworth Cove 11 Miles.

Further Details:

Swanage has great shopping with a wide range of boutiques,gift shops, art galleries, restaurants and pubs. There are also two supermarkets, banks and a post office. Chococo chocolate factory is hugely popular with the kids as are the various ice cream parlours and fish and chip shops.

Swanage Steam Railway operates daily between Swanage and Corfe Castle. Pleasure cruises to Brownsea Island and Bournmouth depart from the Victorian Pier. Diving and Waterskiing are also available for Pierhead Watersports.Tennis Courts and a Pitch and Putt Course are located just behind the main beach.

Walker's will enjoy fabulous coastal walks in both directions, over Ballard Down to Old Harry's Rocks and Studland or along Durlstan Bay to Dancing Ledge and further still Lulworth Cove and Worbarrow Tout. The Tourist Information centre has further details.

Booking Notes:
A 25% deposit is to be paid on booking with the balance paid 2 weeks before the arrival date to obtain the keys to the apartment. In addition a £150 damage deposit Cheque must be sent. This will be returned on receipt of the apartment keys which should be returned within 7 days of vacation.
MINIMUM BOOKING OF FOUR NIGHTS (4) . Please email me to check availability and to discuss dates and days which must fall between a Thursday to Thursday. MINIMUM BOOKING OF FOUR (4) NIGHTS.
Refunds. A booking once confirmed, may be cancelled at any time in writing. A refund of monies paid (deposits and final payments) will only be made if the property has been let successfully over the period originally booked. No refunds will be made if the booking is cancelled after receipt of the keys.

Changeover Day:
Thursday (this is to avoid the weekend traffic chaos). Arrival After 2pm. Departure, PLEASE,before 10am. The property WILL be checked commencing 10am for cleanliness /breakages. Although changeover day is on Thursdays this can be negotiated.
