About the property

House in Grosmont, Nr Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors - Excellent Walking Country With Direct Access To The Moors, The Coast To Coast Walk Passes The House

Our usual changeover day is Friday, especially at peak times. At other times we try to be flexible. The house will be available after 4pm on the day of your arrival and must be vacated by 10am on your day of departure

Hillside enjoys an elevated position overlooking the Esk Valley. There is easy access to the village with its historic steam train station and workshops which are open to visit. A short drive across the beautiful moors leads to the bustling port of Whitby and many other quaint villages await discovery each with their own delightful charms. From the doorstep walks lead in all directions and with a little planning you can even come home by train! The house has a new oil fired central heating system with a cosy woodburner in the lounge. The location is very peaceful only disturbed by the gentle puff of the steam trains down in the valley and the call of the woodpeckers and the pheasants

We do allow well behaved dogs to visit. The house is suitable for two small dogs or one larger breed. It is important to discuss this with us before you book as we do have some simple house rules that we need to make you aware of

Wonderful cottage overlooking beautiful valley with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at Hillside last week, three adults, two children and one dog. The cottage was lovely and cosy, and had ample accommodation and facilities for this family holiday. Nice to find a place where my Dad's dog was made to feel welcome. Grosmont itself, is about 10 mins walk away down a steep hill from the house is a small and perfectly formed. Its dominated by the steam railway which kept our 50-year old and 7-year old train spotters very happy for the week. The local pub is really nice with an interesting range of beers, lovely food and a friendly welcome, as is the school house tea room. Plenty of walking to be done directly from the house out across the moors or down into the valley. A bit further afield we had days out in Whitby, Runswick Bay (amazing fossils), Dalby Forest (Go Ape, cycling, walking), and Robin Hoods Bay. Plenty to keep us occupied.

If you love walking , appreciate stunning scenery , are looking from a home from home then this has it all . Had s wonderful week , even in the rain . For Steam enthusiasts this property is perfect . The station at Grosmont is quintessentially NER and beautifully kept . Close to the stunning coast , Robin Hood Bay is a must see . If we are ever this far North again we will return .

Xmas at Hillside

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed a perfect family Xmas at Hillside. The house was warm & welcoming on arrival with decorations, logs for the fire and a bottle of wine. All rooms were very comfortable with enough room for all of us. We were made very welcome down in the village. We would certainly consider spending another Xmas at Hillside.

Hillside, Grosmont

Lovely comfortable cottage in a beautiful quiet location. Having the steam train so nearby is a great starting point for days out - ride out and walk back. Whitby has plenty of good places to eat and a fun atmosphere.

We had a lovely stay at Hillside. The cottage is spacious and well equipped. It's in a lovely position with a beautiful view. We were a bit unlucky with the weather, but enjoyed exploring the local attractions nonetheless. It was fantastic to be so near the North Yorks Moors Railway. Thank you!
