This apartment has a spacious living area, decorated in traditional style comprising a large corner sofa with sofa bed, a TV and dining table seating up to six persons. The apartment has internet access. The living area adjoins an open plan kitchen area comprising two refrigerators, cooker and dishwasher with granite work surfaces. There is a utility room providing a washer dryer and drying area alongside the hot water boiler. Both bedrooms are very spacious and are air-conditioned. There is a guest bathroom with in the hallway outside bedroom no 2. Bedroom no. 1 has twin beds with bedside cabinets, an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, built-in wardrobes and chest of drawers.

Bedroom no. 2 has twin beds and one spare bed, bedside cabinet, two built-in wardrobes and a chest of drawers.

Tavira Antiqua Doma is the ideal holiday home for those wishing to stay in style and luxury in the very centre of the beautiful and historic coastal town of Tavira, Portugal. The property is a stunningly renovated traditional Portuguese house located on a cobbled street comprising a 4 bedroom and a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartments are luxurious with traditional features, comfortable furniture and internet. Fantastic water scenes, shops and restaurants are within a few minutes' walk. A wide choice of lovely beaches and golf courses can be reached within 15-20 minutes. The property is located one minute from Tavira's river and a bridge providing direct access to the beach ferry, the town's old market square, riverside gardens, fish restaurants and water taxis. The beach ferry service links the town to Tavira Island within about 10 minutes, offering a fabulous 5 km beach of golden sand. Alternatively there is a wide choice of alternative beaches within 10-20 minutes by car.

Why Martin Ebbs chose Tavira

I have always been enchanted by the people, tradition and culture of Portugal. I first visited Tavira in 2004 and discovered a hidden treasure - an unspoilt, historic old town full of interesting places, next to fantastic beaches. During my visit, I came across this old but beautifully ornate building in an empty and derelict state and thought, what a waste. Someone needed to restore this to its full glory and bring it back into full regular use. So that became my mission and after dealing with complex bureaucracy and building issues for the next few years I finally brought this concept to reality, making it into two spacious and stylish properties and it is now available for others to enjoy.

What makes this apartment unique

The property is situated right in the centre of the old town about one minute from the river. The apartments are stylishly decorated and furnished, well equipped, spacious and very comfortable. The upper apartment has two terraces and a separate balcony. Everything you need - groceries, shops, restaurants, bars, the beach ferry and evening entertainment is available within 5 minute's walk. It is easy to get to, being only 30 minutes from Faro airport, and with motorway and rail connections. Spain can be reached within 20 minutes. The nearest beach at Ilha da Tavira can be accessed by boat directly from the town centre, taking about 10 minutes. Five other beaches can be reached in 10-20 minutes by car. All beaches are wide with beautiful golden sand and stretch for long distances.

Superb location and lovely apartment

Loved being within walking distance of the heart of the town . We had a car so we could also explore the best beaches around such as barril, cabanas, cacela velha, manta rota etc . Close to supermarket also and a very good French restaurant across the street.

Standard of accommodation was very good and this property had been tastefully restored and is much more interesting than a normal tourist apartment. Can't fault it!

Great location

Lovely two bed apartment in a great location for discovering Tavira and also getting the ferry to the beach. Tavira is a lovely town with lots of character. The apartment was tasefully refurbished with plenty of space. The bedrooms are very large and the communal space works well. The apartment was well stocked with all mod cons and the owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The apartment is very near the supermarket, coffee shops and restaurants. The only downside to this apartment is that it is on street level so it doesn't have an outdoor eating area which we really missed. The apartment is quite dark so on a morning or evening you felt you were missing the lovely sun.

Eigentlich zufriedenstellend, aber ....

Die Erdgeschosswohnung fanden wir sehr sauber und schön eingerichtet vor. Die Wohnung ist groß und hochwertig eingerichtet. Die Küchenausstattung ist vorbildlich. Schade, dass es keinen Sitzplatz draußen gibt. Vorder- und Hinterausgänge bringen einen sofort auf den Gehweg! Die Lage ist sehr zentral, alles ist fußläufig zu erreichen. Am späten Abend bzw. nachts kann es zu erheblichen Lärmbelästigungen des Irish Pubs (mit Karaoke) nebenan kommen.

Leider wurde der Aufenthalt getrübt.

Vom ersten Tag an funktionierte nur eine der beiden Klimaanlagen. Ein Spülkasten konnte auch nur durch öffnen der Abdeckung bedient werden. Die Reklamation bei der Hausverwalterin wurde zwar ernst genommen, doch ein herbeigeeilter Handwerker ließ die nötige Einsatzbereitschaft missen. Nach einer Woche kam dann noch tropfendes Wasser von der Decke in einem Schlafzimmer dazu. Eine erneute Reklamation rief dann die Hausverwalterin und den Handwerker auf den Plan (bisher war noch kein Missstand behoben!). Man entschuldigte sich, vertröstete aber auf die nächsten Tage. Erst eine massive Reklamation vor Ort brachte dann den Erfolg. 1 Stunde später funktionierte dann doch alles.

Fazit: Von 13 Tagen vor Ort funktionierten nur an 3 Tagen beide Klimaanlagen in den Schlafzimmern. Und Nächte im August bei 32°C sind ohne Klimaanlage nicht wirklich schön!!

Nach Beendigung des Urlaubs wurde zwar vom Vermieter eine kleine Entschädigung zurück überwiesen, doch auf Mailanfragen, das die Entschädigung zu gering ausfiel, wurde auch nach mehrmaliger Erinnerung nicht reagiert.

Sicher kann es zu solchen technischen Problemen während des Urlaubs kommen, aber nicht zeitnah die Probleme zu beheben und anschließend in keine Kommunikation mit dem Mieter eingehen ist kritisch zu bewerten und mit Sicherheit nicht vorbildlich!!

Car: not necessary


The nearest beach at Ilha da Tavira can be reached via the ferry during the summer from the town centre within about 10 minutes (cost 1.40 euros return), (5 minutes by water taxi). This offers a fabulous 5 km beach of golden sand with lifeguards. Sunbeds and parasols are available to hire in the summer and there is a good choice of bars and restaurants.Alternatively, beaches at Cabanas, Conceicao, Manta Rota, Altura, Bariill and Fuzeta can be reached within 10 minutes by car.


Tavira can be reached from Faro airport by car within 30 minutes on the IP1/A22 motorway. A car is not necessary to get around Tavira, but is recommended if you want to explore the wider area. Cars can be hired at the airport, though pre-booking by internet is less expensive. Taxis from the airport to Tavira are also available. Tavira has good bus and rail services to Faro and coastal towns in the Algarve.


Everything you need - groceries, shops, restaurants and the beach ferry are within 5 minutes walk of the house. Neighbouring towns of Cabanas, Olhao, Fuzeta, Faro and Vila Real are all within 20-30 minutes by car.Tavira is 4 km from the IP1/A22 motorway, so most of the western Algarve can be accessed within aabout 40 minutes, the Spanish border within 20 minutes and Seville in 1 hour 45 minutes. The bus station is 5-6 minutes walk from the house and the station about 15 minutes walk.

There are a variety of local attractions to visit including: Tavira skate park on the east bank just past the railway viaduct; the Camera Obscura offering a 360 degree panoramic view of Tavira from up high; Tavira’s 2000 year old castle, located up the hill past the tourist office, which has gardens and great views across the roof tops from on top of its walls; a number of magnificent historic churches; the Municipal Museum in Palacio de Galeria. The Ria Formosa, stretching from Faro to Tavira is the most extensive lagoon complex in Portugal and offers a range of trails and footpaths, beaches, islands and natural habitats to be explored. Touristic boat tours are available with various circuits such as along the Ria Formosa lagoon, its fishing villages, historic sites and natural habitats. Peco Inferno is a beautiful spot with a waterfall feature and natural pool suitable for swimming - ideal for children. There is a playground for small children next to the Pingo Doce supermarket. Aqua Show water park and Zoo Marine in the western Algarve are a great day out for children. There are many fextival events during the summer months. The Visit Portugal office at Rua da Galeria (tel 281 322 511) can provide further details of the various attractions available in and around the town, local travel options and links to guided tours. Shopping: there is a useful small grocery store 120 metres up the street as you turn right out of the front door. The nearest supermarket to the house is the Pingo Doce , 5 minutes walk away. At Tavira’s food market, open most days of the week, a large variety of fish, meat and vegetables can be purchased at good prices. There are a range of craft and speciality shops in the town particularly around the old market place and on the way up towards the station. The recently opened Gran Plaza on the east side of the town is a major new shopping mall with over 100 shop units, a Continente hypermarket, cinema complex and food court.
