About the Owner

We are an British/American couple with family and friends in both countries. We chose the Townhouse in Velez-Malaga to be our European home and a base for family and friends to visit. We have lived in our Velez-Malaga Townhouse 8 times for about 3 weeks each time since buying it in early March 2011 and each visit is more enjoyable than the previous one.

Very good

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in the apartment on three occasions.

We particularly appreciate the facilities that are available in Velez Malaga, most within a short walking distance from the apartment, restaurants, bars, butchers, bakery (24 hour) supermarkets, swimming pool.

The walk from central Velez to the apartment offers, what we believe to be an authentic Spanish feel, through winding cobbled streets. A large proportion of the people that live here are Spanish. It genuinely feels that you are immersing yourself in a part of Spanish society. We have stayed in a number of other locations in and around the immediate coastline and none compare to delights that surround this part of Velez. We enjoy the area so much that, one day, we would love to live here.

The apartment itself is modern and very functional. We very much enjoy the sunsets over the valley. We suspect that the owners must stay here fairly regularly as it very much feels like a home. There always seems to be various supplies left in the cupboard. Assuming that this must be on an honesty basis. Very much appreciated when arriving after a flight.

We very much recommend this apartment.

Great house in a good town

  • 5 of 5

The house has been refitted to a very high standard. We enjoyed the house, the immediate area and the town itself. We did not travel as far as we had planned out of Velez because we enjoyed being in the town. . Staying amongst the locals was great. When you hear someone play flamenco guitar on the street corner you know its the real deal, not something for the tourists.

If you are up fro travelling, varied countryside (from coast to mountains) is all well within 0.5 -1 hour drive time. We will definitely return to this house.

Owner's Response: We enjoy hearing from our Guests all the features they like about our Velez-Malaga home. And we continue to strive to make it an experience Guests will remember and want to return to. We visit twice a year for about 3 or 4 weeks each time and continue to enjoy the previously discovered attractions and find new interesting and enjoyable activities.

A homely town house in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

From our first contact with the owners Pat and Marilyn we knew this was going to be an outstanding property, we could not have hoped for more. The location is perfect for a real taste of Spain as you are surrounded by local people who are very friendly. The house was clean, bright and freshly decorated, a real home from home with everything a family could need. Everything was meticulously labelled which was much appreciated although Geoff and Tina the agents were on hand if we did need anything. For us one of the best parts of the house was the roof top terrace, with views across the town, mountains and sea. We loved sitting up there in the evenings soaking up the atmosphere with a glass of wine, listening to the flamenco love songs being sung across the street will be etched in all our memories for always. The roof was also a God send for our two teenagers as they could have some privacy later on in the night. With many levels it suited our family of four as we all had our own space if and when required.

The house is approx 15mins walk up from the beautiful town of Velez-Malaga. A small Spanish working town, full of life but no cheesy English pubs or breakfasts here, this is authentic Spain, delicious food, stunning scenery. We felt very safe here and even let our teenagers have a wonder round together without us for a while. Pretty Torre Del Mar beach a bus ride away which we visted twice.

A fantastic family holiday was had by all, thank you Pat and Marilyn for sharing your wonderful home.

Relaxing and easy going

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at Velez-Malaga after traveling down the coast from Alicante for a week. After seeing all the tourist prefabricated high rise buildings, the artificial Spain, it was so refreshing to be in a real Spanish town. We arrived at the beginning of the Real Feria de San Miguel and the streets were full of booths with food, drink and music.

Upon walking up the ever narrowing cobble stone streets we arrived at the villa. The bedrooms are spacious and the terrace on top is the highlight. many an evening was spent eating, drinking and listening to the sounds, music, song, neighbors talking, and kids playing below.

The town is very walkable but hilly, much investment and refurbishing of historic buildings is occurring, and buses can take one anywhere one might want to go. Having a vehicle is a bonus and parking (albeit, uphill) is only few blocks away.

If one wants to get away from the tourist side of Spain and experience a real Spanish town in a spacious well equipped villa this is the ticket.

Owner's Response: Again, we are pleased to see our Guests enjoyed their visit to authentic Andalucia where the neighbours produce impromptu flamenco entertainment on their doorsteps. Not to mention the roof terrace with sweeping views and toasting the magnificent sunsets. Plus beach time and hiking thru the gorges of the Rio Chillar.

Great house in Spanish town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 6 weeks in January and February. The house is very well equipped and located on the hillside in the narrow streets of the old part of the town. It represents great value for money. Views from the terrace were spectacular, including mountains, sea and town. This area is very atmospheric and the town is typically Spanish with few tourists. Everything that you need is within walking distance and the local public transport, which we used a lot, is cheap and efficient. Both the owners and the English neighbours were extremely helpful and we have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Location

From the Owner

We chose Axarquia because it has the best weather in Europe, great beaches, is 40 minutes to Malaga Airport and 1 and 3/4 hours to the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort. After looking from beaches to mountains and campo to villages we decided on Velez-Malaga to experience living in a typical Andalucian village neighbourhood with all the amenities of a small city within walking distance - market, restaurants, tapas cafes, bus service and a sports center with a lap pool. We chose the "Old City" (La Villa) up near the Moorish Fortaleza for the ambiance. We chose the house because it has a large 90sqm roof terrace with 360 degree views of the sea, mountains, sunset and cultural landmarks, plus modern amenities and 3 bedrooms and 2 baths making room for visitors.
